I quickly scanned this whole thread and saw no mention of the fact that this GM update turns off Trim for those of us using non Apple SSD's. I needed to re-enable Trimforce once again using the instructions from here to dis-able SIP.
And while I was at it I reinstalled "cDock" and deleted all the Apple installed Applications I never use, then when I was done I re -enabled SIP.
You're right, TRIM is disabled by default on any OSX clean install.

'sudo trimforce enable' works without disabling SIP.

I did not need to reenable TRIM after installing the GM on my system. And no messing with SIP.

It has been my experience that updating beta versions enabled TRIM to stay in force, whereas if I did a clean install, TRIM had to be manually engaged each time via the terminal command.

If you're working with large TIFF or RAW files, the Finder is damn slow at previewing folder contents. I said this before but I have been doing more tests now. This is the slowest file manager for creatives that I have ever seen. The last time the Finder was this slow was probably OSX 10.5. We're in 2015 now and we should have something closer to real time interaction, yet I have folders that I have been working from for two days and the thumbnails still haven't been generated.

For the record, 12 core Mac Pro, 24 GB memory, Samsung 850 Evo.

The test. On a folder with 19 TIFFS, each between 300-400MB, El Capitan still hasn't generated thumbnails after more than a day. It takes up to 5 seconds to open an image in Preview and almost 3 seconds with QuickLook.

The test on Windows 10. The same folder, except this time I have copied it to the much slower hard drive Windows is installed on. The thumbnails were generated for the whole folder within 4 seconds. Each file takes a second to open in Windows Photo Viewer.

This same test can be repeated with similar results in other folders of TIFFS and other large image files.

It stayed on for me, going from 10.10.5 to the 10.11 GM Candidate and on another computer going from 10.11 DP8 to the GM candidate.

Ok i managed to recover the Yosemite, now downloaded and made an install usb disk, installed the El Capitan also :) Not restarted, but i have a feeling my file vault was messing up last time. So this time i disabled the same before update.

Edit: spoke too soon, restart and same issue! What am I doing wrong. Have a boot disk, only good news :(

Since i have the install USB disk, i was able to re-install and restart. But this is so annoying, now i have kept the system in sleep mode and avoid restart!

Let me know if you have any solution?

And a clean install is what was needed to get this running, some kext files were messing up at start up. Once i did a clean install, used migration option to put stuff back from time machine and now things seems to be on track.

Find the previous download in your applications folder and trash it.

look for the file "Install OS X El Capitan Public Beta.app" or similar

You might have to log out and log back in for it to appear in the purchase tab of the App Store.

Edit - You might want to save that file (on another drive) if you want to keep that version - otherwise, after trashing it, the new download will be the GM version.

I've been on the GM since it came out and it's been really smooth sailing so far, I haven't really encountered any bugs like I did when I was on the original public beta a few months ago.

So after couple of reboots, restore of my time machine re-appeared. Issue seems to be kext and following this thread helped me restart my machine.

Hmmm... your actually pretty clear of 3rd party kernel extensions and none of those that are there have I established as causes yet. Have you installed any software in the last week because the command above wouldn't detect those. If you're not sure, then please post the output of:

  • cd "/Volumes/Macintosh HD" ; find System/Library/Extensions -ctime +1d -depth 2

Otherwise, the following block of commands will move those 3rd party kexts that we've seen so far to a new folder in each Library called "Unsupported" - a safe location where they can't cause harm, but can be reinstated if needed. Use the same method of copying to the Terminal as for the earlier command. It will also reboot your Mac, which may take a little longer than normal first time, so that you're aware.

  • cd "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Library/Extensions/" ; mkdir Unsupported ; mv EPSON*.kext Unsupported ; cd "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions/" ; mkdir Unsupported ; mv BJUSB* Unsupported ; mv hp_* Unsupported ; rm -Rf /Volumes/LR-2011\ HD/var/folders/* ; reboot
Replace Macintosh HD with your HDD or SDD name while using the above ^ commands, the second one is what you need.

Looks like there's a Bluetooth bug with the current GM Candidate. After the lid's closed on my MacBook Pro 15in 2015 the bluetooth keyboard and mouse aren't recognised. Once I saw that Bluetooth "isn't available".

Suspect this will be one that Mac Rumor's main page will be flagging in the coming weeks...

when you guys do a fresh install, do you use time machine migration afterwards ?

or when you do a fresh install you just reinstall everything manually

i been using the same os since 2012 and this time i want to do a fresh install, but I'm thinking using time machine migration defeats the purpose of a fresh install ?

Can someone just confirm something for me....

If this turns out to be the actual GM that ships I am guessing there will still be an update on the 30th to remove the a/b from the end of the version number?
