Was on Yosemite, MBP 13 inch Late 2011 model with an upgraded Samsung SSD and Trim enabled, downloaded the GM and tried making a bootable disk which did not work out. So went ahead and used the app to install, after a long wait and few restarts, was on El Capitan. Once the system stabilized, did a permission repair and decided to try a restart.

Now the MBP goes to login screen, the hangs after password is entered and progress bar not moving (0%). Left it all night, tried safe boot etc which did not work, only option was to reinstall through another download. Since i had the time machine back up, left it for restore to Yosemite and had to come out for work. Hopefully it will be fine, when i get back.

So my question is, has anyone faced such an issue of boot getting stuck after install?

Any resolution to this? and is it something to do with the upgraded SSD?

Should i again try to do a GM install or wait for final public release?

I downloaded the public GM installer yesterday.

I first tried to install it over the existing install (which was the most recent "developer preview").

Didn't work. I got kernel panics during the first restart (of the install process), and it would just "boot back" to the existing developer preview version.

Final try that worked:
I re-initialized the partition that I was using for El Capitan, then tried again.
This time, the install went smoothly.
At the close of the install, I "migrated over" the data and apps I wanted. Took a little extra time, but went smoothly enough.

I'm now at build 15A282a ...

Ok i managed to recover the Yosemite, now downloaded and made an install usb disk, installed the El Capitan also :) Not restarted, but i have a feeling my file vault was messing up last time. So this time i disabled the same before update.

Edit: spoke too soon, restart and same issue! What am I doing wrong. Have a boot disk, only good news :(

Folks, I want a help. Maybe this is not the correct place to post this question, but, anyway...it's related to El Capitan. If want to completely format the iMac Retina hybrid disk using Disk Utility what unity do I have to chose to format? "Fusion Drive" or "macintosh HD"?

My experience with the new Disk Utility has not been particularly good.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm not sure if this is a bug, a procedural PEBKAC error or what. But it's been irking me. I've never had problems with the previous Disk Utility's partition manager.

Just want to confirm... does installing the GM (via app store purchases) over the the public beta act as a clean install or is it still considered an update and retains user files and applications?

Thanks
Hey, this is my experience:
I had beta 5, beta 6 did not show. Got GMc and then beta 6 showed, while I was asleep it rebooted and I woke up to beta 6, then I installed GMc again - and I have had 0 data loss, no complications, etc. Every beta/gm since 2009 when I got this mac has been an upgrade where I retained all my data. (God, i can't wait for a clean install on new 5k mac).

How do you disable root?

running GM candidate over PB resulted in root being re-enabled, and can't modify a displayproductiD file i could before.

just doing OTA from one PB to the next, didnt have to reset this .

Entirely unscientific at the moment, but it appears to me that El Cap's volume levels are lower than Yosemite, which in itself was half as loud compared to Windows in Boot Camp. It means now I have to turn the volume up to 70% instead of 50%. Also, still no audio feedback when adjusting volume on the Mac Pro. Did Apple drop the feedback on all computers?

I quickly scanned this whole thread and saw no mention of the fact that this GM update turns off Trim for those of us using non Apple SSD's. I needed to re-enable Trimforce once again using the instructions from here to dis-able SIP.
And while I was at it I reinstalled "cDock" and deleted all the Apple installed Applications I never use, then when I was done I re -enabled SIP.
