Oh thank goodness, it now seems to be working. Hopefully in about 5-6 hours I can finally get this installed.

Typing this from a clean install of 10.11 (15A284), The slight hang ups I had at shutdown went away, probably due to the lack of 3rd party apps currently installed.

Does anybody know the full path of the OS 10.11 download file ? I want to back this up as I've had horrible experience with Apple updates in the past and redownloading 6GBs is out of question.

ETA 4h 12mins ... wait.. it's 5h 36 mins ... I mean 6h 03 mins ... nevermind i'll get some sleep and install it in the morning. I hope it doesnt destroy my bootcamp partition else i'll sell it ( iMac core i7 1TB SSD 32GB RAM GTX780M if anyone interested )

Really slow at mid-day since the also released iOS 9.0.2 at the same time. What were they thinking?!!!?
That everyone has the same brilliant Internet connection they have at Apple HQ? That'd be my guess.
Positions of power breed a certain kind of detachment from reality.

I clicked 'Get' in the app store and it just says 'waiting' and has the pause button greyed out in the 'Purchased' section and has the 'Download' button greyed out in the main marketplace ... it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all?

The servers are under load due to so many trying to download it at once.
The download may not start for some until a few retries.

Hold Alt/Option and Cancel the download attempt from the purchased tab, then try again.
You may have to wait a few minutes before you retry.

Why are some people clean installing? I thought it doesn't effect performance and what not if you just upgrade..

now running OS X El Capitan and did a clean install. It took me under 2 hours this time probably because of the performance improvements. Enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the .x updates even! :)

Clean install wipes all the settings from previous installs etc gets rid of the gunk.. I tried the clean install once, takes longer re-setup wise.. On my current mini from Lion ( 10.7 - now 10.11.1 ) all been stack installs no clean installs...

My 4Ghz Quad i7 took 20. But I've got 1.5TB stuff.. so maybe that's why.
Yeah my SSD and Yosemite and Windows 10 were all pretty clean, I only installed the SSD about a month ago and haven't really put much back on it since. I want to try and keep most of the rubbish on a NAS and external HDDs. I find Macs slow down pretty badly when you put a lot of stuff on them, hopefully it's not too bad with the SSD.

Actually because I knew El Capitan was coming up was another reason to keep it clean.

FWIW, it's only noticeable during os update etc,
I suspect it has something to do with Fusion drive as some system files are located on the HDD.

Doesn't affect daily usage though, so it's not too bad.

Once you hit the 10% mark of headroom on the boot drive is where you'll see some system slowdowns... if you want to make sure that you got enough drive cushion then double the cushion ... 500 GB would be 360GB after format and 20% cushion ..

Can anybody help me out? In my purchase tab, it says OS X is "downloaded" in a button that is grayed out. Going to the page and I can click download, but nothing happens.

Are you in the Beta program or wanting the public release version ?

IF in Beta then check purchased then updates of MAS .. Public release check the featured tab of MAS for the link of El Capitan download link..

if it says downloaded then the installer for El Capitan is already in your downloads folder waiting to be installed ..
