I cant get 'land line' broadband here in the UK, too far from the exchange, very rural.

Really fortunate to have a 4g mast 1.75 miles line of sight on 1800 spectrum, and get 45 mb DL approx at £27.50 UKP per month for 50 GB (it stops when data runs out so no nasty bills!), I feel fortunate.

What is the average speed & cost for broadband from home in Australia & USA etc?

This answer depends heavily on your definition of "broadband."

Here at school

with that being a Uni with others connected, those are _extremely_ impressive speeds.
So that's actually the Ethernet speed, so maybe that's a little unfair. But I just did a Wi-Fi test from my dorm room, and it's also impressive (but definitely not as crazy).

Why fresh install ? I mean upgrade should be as reliable... I guess. Upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10 and it was so smooth it felt like a fresh install. I think it should be the case with OS X

I like a completely clean system. Moreover, I don't have too many apps installed ... so it takes me 15 minutes to download and install again.

I work at a university so have a janet connection, only trouble is the network guys are taking forever to replace the switches with gigabit so my internet connection is limited by the 100mb ethernet

If El Cap in around 7 GB that is 1 min 28 sec download time, less than making a cup of tea! that's insane!
Its a school though, so they might slow downloads of non faculty. Still even so it would prob be thousands of times faster than me w me 20mb connection

Don't forget we (Europe at least) are on DST still, so it's GMT+1 for UK and GMT+2 for western europe, i.e 6pm/7pm for El Cap release.
