El Capitan = Windows Vista

Coming from Mavericks, El Capitan is an infuriating nightmare:

1) Simple keyboard commands like Command/Option/W no longer close all windows
2) Spell checker goes nuts - when I type the PDX city abbreviation into an airline website, the spell checked changes it to PIX
3) Requires constant clicking on the green window resizing icon to shrink the existing open window in order to make the dock icons and other desktop icon visible so that they can be clicked on.
4) Requires constant clicking at the top of the open window bar in order to make File, Edit, View, etc. visible.
5) The Preview application has radically changed - it's no longer easy to draw horizontal lines, circles, squares, etc.

Since the passing of Steve Jobs, user friendliness has been fast vanishing from Apple products.

Um....You're obviously no newbie....and I am, certainly, new to this forum, relatively speaking, with my early 2008 Mac pro, 4 gigs Ram.. and my late 2008, 17" non-reflective-screen Macbook Pro, 8 gigs Ram...both of which began with Snow Leopard through the transitions to El Capitan... I...um ....Skipped Lion....seemed like a good choice at the time.

Must be some kind of a fluke......I'm just not experiencing your problems.....
If they aren't localized in your computer, I expect there will be plenty of folks with your issues to reply with solutions, and pointed complaints to Apple techies everywhere.......But...Really??.... Vista??

Vista? Really? Did you ever use Vista? That was a debacle. Your issues seem isolated to your machine. Might want to reinstall over the current OS. Or better yet, do a fresh install. When I upgraded from Yosemite I had probs. After a clean install, been smooth as silk.

Hmmm, I went from Snow Leopard to El Capitan this week and I don't recognise any of this. All the things you mention function as they should. I did do a clean install though and I have a feeling this may be crucial with El Capitan, especially when upgrading from an older OS.

Can't speak to the others at the moment, but El Cap has the overzealous autocorrect enabled by default. You can shut it off.

None of the first 4 are problems I'm having. I don't use Preview the way you do so I can't comment on that.
Have you tested with a new user account on your computer to see if the problems are specific to your one account?
You can teach the spell check words that you use commonly. If PDX is one of them, right click on it, and choose "learn spelling" after you've undone the autocorrect.

If you don't know how to use a computer, ask. We are here to help. You have absolutely no idea of how wrong you are and how 100% of those problems are 100% your fault, so I can't help you if you don't want help.

Agreed. Spell Check and Preview are clearly inferior when compared to Mavericks.

I haven't seen the other problems you mentioned, have you tried creating a new user account to see if its only limited on 1 user account? If so it would mean something is wrong in your current user account.

I wouldn't call El Capitan Vista, Yosemite has far more bugs and it should be called Vista. El Capitan is somewhat better but it still has too many bugs for my taste which is the reason I'm using Mavericks.

I agree, el capitan has problems, but none of the ones i've seen are anything like that.

And as to being the 'vista' of OS X? Nope, not even close.

That was Lion. For similar architectural re-structuring reasons (to vista), too.

As above, would suggest a clean install, or at least trying a new user account.

1. All my commands seem to work.
2. Turn off spellchecker.
3. Click it once.
4. Hover over where the menu bar should be, it will pop up. No clicking required.
5. Previews primary function is to preview files. If you want to edit, get an editing application.

I agree with your final statement. Apple products are lacking that extra 1%, but are still of a very high quality, in my opinion. And that of many millions of people, and critics

Having been a Windows person for over 30 years prior to switching over to Apple, I can say Vista wasn't that bad. Let me explain, Microsoft rolled out Vista way too soon and it did have a lot of flaws (bugs). However, Microsoft did fix 99.9 percent of the bugs very quickly; however, since Vista was being taunted as being very easy to use that a lot of newbies decided to give Vista a whirl. They didn't know that you should update when Microsoft issues the updates; heck even now my dad (who's 88) keeps asking me if he should update when he sees an update screen. Then you have people who bad mouthed Vista from the get go and once that type of reputation started it doomed Vista. From my own personal experience with Vista that it was a solid OS once the bugs were ironed out and Microsoft to their credit fixed the issues pretty darn quick. Just my opinion.

(I find it funny even though I converted of to Apple by buying an iMax I still defend MicroSoft, I must have a soft spot still left for them. )

I'm pretty sure, some of those who posted in the above threads, may very have later praised that version of OS X when the new version came out - including myself (I'm not perfect and will never profess to be )

The problem with Vista was that it was very slow on the Acer laptop I had, even though there was a sticker Vista capable on it. The GPU was to slow for it. Later I found out that the laptop would only run Windows Vista home, but that it was not capable of using all of the Vista features. That bloody sticker was worthless. When the MacBook Air 13" was introduced in 2010, I decided to ditch Microsoft and never looked back. I understand from a colleague that after fixpack 2 Vista was not that bad anymore.

I really dislike what Ive has done to OS X but Vista is a whole new level of ugly.
