Dodge, Siri is actually reading some Wolfram Alpha responses now. Not the long ones but shorter ones like equation results, birth dates, occupations, ages, currency conversions, etc.

She'll go "here you go:" then read the result. Not sure if this is for all Siri's but it's doing it for me on iOS 6 beta 2 and I know she didn't do that before.

Siri always did that, here's an article from shortly after Siri came out:

Yeah but she never actually read the answers out to you.

Oh, that's great! Can't wait to try it!

----------

But in practice it proves to be practical and useful. Just yesterday I was able to say "call california pizza kitchen in Tempe Arizona" and it just dialed the phone number and I was able to place a pick-up order while driving. At work I needed an exchange rate and was able to retrieve that information..all without looking at my phone.

Many people called Siri gimicky, some still do, but others find many uses from them. This is just another step moving forward that will provide us with uses that we are probably not even aware of yet.

Nono, you misunderstood. I was saying the "Turn of Wifi" finctionality would be gimmicky. I'm sure Google Now will be plenty useful :)

Does Siri know when you have "left" to remind you to pick up some milk? Or does it just remind you to pick up milk in a certain time you tell it to?
And how does it know when you get to your Dads without you telling it what time you will be there?

I really dont know so its a serious question.

I see. I like that. I dont know many addresses though to type in for that purpose.

As someone else said, the phone uses geolocation to set a reminder like this, but you can also set the reminder for a certain time instead of based on your location.

This isn't a function of Siri, it's the "Reminders" app. You can request Siri to schedule the reminders, though, which is much easier than manually creating the reminder.

Sane with Google Now. Setting alarms isn't a feature of Google Now, it's a feature of the clock app. You can request to create alarms, though, which is much easier than manually creating the alarm.

Smart Actions can do location based reminders and some of the things Siri does and you only need to set it up once, it remembers. Not voice based but big deal

Says not compatible w/ the GS3. Mine anyways. May work with the UK version.

Anyways, someone mentioned when they get in their car, their phone turns on bluetooth and turns wi-fi off. Is this the app that does that or is there something else?

Might've been me that said that, but it's not completely automated, it uses NFC tags. You stick an NFC tag in your car and program it to do what you want, then just hold your phone to it.

NFC tag as someone mentioned or an app called tasker - I use this in the car. It basically detects when I'm connected to the bluetooth kit in the car and unlocks the phone, turns the brightness all the way up and sets the screen timeout to forever. This way the phone stays on and unlocked when in the holder in the car.

Smart actions will only work on a motorola handset. I think its a restriction they put into the app.

I don't have a 4s, but a 3gS, and depending on the new iPhone specs it's either that or 4s since I can upgrade now.

Anyways, so what you're saying is, if I need milk from grocery store, and I say "Siri, remind me to pick up milk next time I'm at Kroger/giant eagle/etc" it will remind me when I get to the grocery store??

I know a lot of people who have blackberrys and feel its still superior to android and iOS. I don't think so but its just their opinion. What I am not a fan off is FANBOYISM...lol whether its android or iOS. Cool video, cool thread....Same war!

It doesn't support Android 4.0.

Nope. Wrong. He's talking about smart actions from Motorola which will only install and run on a moto handset. Nothing to do with the android version.

My bad. I saw looked at the "Current version" which is 2.1.3.0 and I didn't look at the "Requires Android:" part so I thought it said it supported 2.1 to 3.0.

Not only is Siri much slower and can't do flights, she also doesn't know much. All you have to do is watch the "knowledge" section around the 9 min mark. Fail.

Wolfram Alpha does flights. You obviously didn't read the description like the video said. iOS 6 is also a beta version and iOS 5 is much faster, which is ALSO in the description that you didn't read.

It still failed in comparison. Nice try though. More for Apple to play catch up with.

I am the author of the Siri video, found here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1399253/
I have no idea why they locked that thread though.

As a loyal iPhone user for the last 2.5 years, I agree that Siri does have some catching up to do - nevertheless, I have no doubt that one day it will.

Both Google Now and Siri are both very well implemented. It's just up to people's personal preferences as to what they would prefer to use more. By no means is Google Now superhuman, and by no means is Siri a slouch.

Edit: Here's the Siri video for those who care:

Yeah. I have pretty much the same thoughts, although the fact that Siri doesn't know things such as the height requirement for Space Mountain doesn't bother because I would never need to know that. If something didn't work with Siri, I would have no problem with doing a quick Google Search.

Edit: It is funny though, that they locked your thread but kept this one open.
