Few things I want to see....

Assign a line per contact group and not just per contact
Different ringtone per line
1- be able to send an SMS easily using the second line to somebody you already have a conversation with.
2- be able to make a ONE-OFF phone call to a contact on the second line without having to select “always use” this line.

Maybe their system is overloaded. :)

I can get into the app, but it’s slow.

Turns out if your iPhone name has an emoji in it, the app shows an error. Removing it fixes the issue and then it can be added back!

I’ve just been having a play with a battered old dual sim onePlus 3T in the office, I can’t beleive just how much easier it is to send an SMS or make a call from each sim and how easy it is to change the data line.

It’s literally one touch to change sim for a text and no extra touch for the calls as it has 2 call buttons labelled 1 and 2.

Seriously, didn’t someone at Apple go pick up a couple of crappy Android dual sim phones and see how it was done?

Y'all, I need help. Been trying all day to add an eSim line. Getting this crazy series of events that happen every time the line tries to activate. Doing this with both GigSky and TruPhone. Both companies tech support departments are still clueless about eSim, and Apple support just refers me back to the carrier, as "No eSim support in US yet!." I attached a screen recording of the issue. Definitely feels like its on the iOS end, rather than the carrier. Basically, as soon as the line tries to activate, all service drops, the phone crashes, locks, goes to the lock screen, then I get a notice "Activation Required", then as soon as I click okay on the dialog, service restores, and the phone goes back to the home screen. I'd appreciate any help.

Is your phone carrier locked? It looks like it's throwing you the activation page.

The GigSky app just got updated to kinda enable to use the eSIM on the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.

Purchase the plans and etc, and should be good to go on the eSIM.

I’m not part of or sponsored by GigSky in anyways but just sharing if you wanna test out the eSIM hehee

Yes, definitely the activation page. I bought my phone straight from Apple, paid in full upfront. I even filled out an unlock request from AT&T, my primary carrier, to which they responded that the phone was still currently unlocked, and wasn’t locked to AT&T. So, I really can’t figure out what the issue might be. I think it’s hard, since the technology is so new, many support agents from Apple or Carriers have no idea what is going on.

Any other suggestions?

Very useful thread but sadly majority of carriers haven't started eSim process. I am in India and using Airtel network and response from them to activate eSIM. Is there any user using AIRTEL or JIO in India and has got eSIM activated?

I have seen discussions in different forum where users have been able to get eSim on Airtel and Jio apparently. Airtel has a SMS based option, while for Jio you apparently needs to visit the store.

Did you submit an unlock request for the IMEI of the Physical SIM AND the Digital SIM? Both need to be unlocked.

PSA: I can confirm that the new iPad Pro supports eSIM just like the iPhone XS! In addition to that, you can select local carriers or international ones, but it's not an Apple SIM or embedded Apple SIM.

I need an IPV4 to access mobile data at work, which I used Apple Configurator 2 to do.

When I just had my physical sim, this worked fine. However, now I have activated my eSim, mobile data doesn’t work on it.

I’ve done some experiments and discovered that my IPV4 profile only gets applied to the physical sim installed and not the eSim.

Hopefully Apple addresses this soon.

You should report it to Apple. They probably don't read these forums :)

So here I am on another business trip. I’m from the UK and I’m in Dubai for a couple of days. I’m on a UK EE eSim.

Here comes the madness of Apple’s Dual-Sim implementation...

Data in Dubai is not free on my carrier (it’s expensive) so I am not logged into any data network. The only option I have is to send an SMS. I’m away on a business trip so I want to use my business/work line to communicate via SMS until I’m next on WiFi then I’ll resort back to iMessage.

In the current version of iOS this simple request is impossible!

As you can see from the attached image of you start a conversation on line 1 you cannot then send a message from line 2 and vice-versa.

So I have many people who I’ve conversed with via iMessage for the past 12 months. Each thread may also contain photos and documents - valuable information. If I want to SMS one of these people from line 2 I have two options and personally I think both of them are absurd.

1 - I can delete the entire thread, losing all my previous conversation, photos and documents and then start a new conversation on line 2 with an SMS. When I’m then on WiFi again I need to delete the entire conversation once more and start a new conversation with iMessage back on line 1.

2 - Instead of doing point 1 above the other option is to do what I did last night which was to call the other person and ask them to send me an SMS on line 2. Then the conversation changes to line 2 and I can then happily SMS away using line 2. When I’m back on WiFi I have to ask the other person to then send me an iMessage to line 1 and now the line is use is back to line 1. I cannot initiate this change only the other person can.

Is absolute madness. The whole reason of a dual sim phone is to replace 2 devices. I suspect most serious dual sim users are those that have one line for personal use and one line for business/work.

I’ve sent feedback to Apple about this but I’m astonished how such a massive error such as this could be allowed to happen. Why can’t we simply select the line we need to send a message or call from?

Then we move onto phone calls....

The default line for 95% of the users in my phone is line 1. My personal line.

Now, since I’m away from home in a country where data is expensive and calls are too, I want to use my company’s work line 2.

Thankfully, calling is easier than messaging but it’s very clunky.

To call somebody on line 2 I have to select the contact, make a few clicks to get to the line details page and then select ALWAYS USE line 2 (even though I maybe just want to make 1 call on my work line 2). Then after a couple more clicks I can make the call on line 2. However, you are forced to select ALWAYS USE line 2 so now another half a dozen or so clicks are needed to return the setting back to use my personal line 1 after the call.

It’s crazy. It’s poorly implemented and currently for those of use who really do need to use both lines on the phone the current iOS implementation is massively compromised.

OH! No, I only did the physical IMEI! I'll submit the eSim IMEI right now. Thanks for the idea. I'll let y'all know what happens.
Okay, so both the physical sim and digital sim are unlocked. Rebooted the phone, gave it several hours. Still nothing. Same problem.

That's why i feel it's better to purchase the iPhone from BestBuy since its sold under the Apple US Flex Policy. No one being trained about unlocking nor how eSIMs work.
