Enjoying another nice cup right now. I have to say that I really love the press pot. I've been using it exclusively ever since I received it! ☕

So we're working on a project for the software that runs our dispatch center, the police records software and many other related things with our neighboring county. The Under Sheriff sent an email out to me, my boss, the County Administrator, the County Clerk, County Prosecutor and a few other high-ups for a meeting on it next week.

He wears the rank insignia of a military colonel, though his title is "Under Sheriff" as he is the #2 guy after the Sheriff himself. So I just call him colonel.

This is what I sent to him and I copied everyone he included on the email too:

Colonel,

I may attend your fabulous soirée if you can confirm there will be some exquisite, choice single-origin coffee, preferably from the African continent, ground freshly and coarsely and prepped for brewing in a French Press. With such, we should be satisfied sufficiently to conduct the affairs of this [Redacted] business.

He and I get along very well, so we're able to cut-up with each other often and have a good laugh. He refers to me as "Commander."

Here was his reply:

Commander,
The very best I could do is supply some jail house coffee strained through a sock and the very best Styrofoam cups available from the jail.

LOL!

With that offer, you can't possibly turn him down, as I'm sure jailhouse coffee is only the very highest quality!

:p

But is the specified sock made from single estate organic and ultra ethical hand-picked cotton and/or silk? Because, seriously, nothing but the best - the very best ultra fine silk - will do for the denizens of this thread….We have our standards, you know…..

Hey...nice set-up!

So, you're going for an HG-one grinder. Another silly person using a hand grinder!;)

When the time comes that you get it...you'll love it, trust me!:D

The Profitec 700 is a heck of a machine. You might want to look at some of the heat exchanger machines, too.

And a final suggestion...take a look at the Londinium I. Pairs wonderfully with the HG-one...or so I hear!;) :D

Lever won't fit in my kitchen, at least not a beast one like the L1, I have super low cabinets, the CC1 only has a few inches clearance up top. Renting this house till we can find something in this neighborhood since want to stay on the water for boating, and hopefully this street as our neighbors all party and love craft beer too... and my espresso haha. My neighbors may put their awesome pad up for sale next year and first thing I did was look around their kitchen which is way larger and open then ours and was like hmmm a bigger machine and grinder will fit no prob :D

It's official. After doing a extra thorough cleaning of the kitchen and coffee equipment, I've retired the Hamilton Beach automatic drip coffee machine to a cabinet. In it's place is the French Press that I've been using.

I like the process of the French Press and the taste of the coffee from it a lot better than the automatic drip machine.

A fervent and heartfelt amen to that; as I believe I may have already mentioned on these fora, and, above all, on this thread, (with the possible exception of the Bialetti moka pot), I am a big fan of the French press……classic, uncomplicated (but very rewarding and tasty) coffee making...

Congrats, Mate!

It's terrific that you are enjoying the press as much as you are. :D

It's a tribute to what appears to be the fact that the more hands on methods seem to produce the more desirable coffees. Just my bias, perhaps, but the more control one has over the whole process the better the coffee.

I'm not knocking more "automatic" methods...it just seems being able to subtly adjust the variables pays off.

The socks I think were hand made by the indigenous peoples of ... somewhere. Using only the finest available spider silk in the forrest nearby.

Spider silk?

My silk worms (tenderly hand reared, accustomed to their diet of mulberry leaves mulched with organic compost matter, etc. etc.) have decided to go on hunger strike thereby halting their silk production in protest at being made to feel inadequate by a colony of……….forest dwelling spiders….addressed in an obscure and doubtless dying language with an impossible fifteen grammatical cases by the indigenous peoples of somewhere; they are a bit sensitive about things like that…..

Hey, I completely missed this post!

Next step is to get you a nice pour over set up...:p

You'll get a 'cleaner' cup than the press, but you'll have way more control over the process than with the auto drip. Just something to think about...;)

Boy, it's a good thing I don't buy much in the way of coffee equipment.

You guys are just buy, buy, buy...spend ...spend...spend.

Lucky thing I'm completely sensible about this whole coffee thing!

You guy love watching me spend my money don't you? :p

Thankfully, in some weird way, there are limits on my finances to where I just can't go buy everything all the time. Haha

:p

I know; I know, to be destined by by the fickle finger of fate to play the sorry role of the killjoy voice of sound economic sense and book-balancing reason in a thread full of feckless financial spendthrifts……..must be a source of endless angst for you. We sympathise. We really do….

Well someone has to be the level-headed voice of reason!

You guy love watching me spend my money don't you? :p

It's called the pleasure of vicarious spending; taking wanton pleasure in spending someone else's (hard-earned) income. A well known vice, to some. Banks do it (all the time), while Governments do it (occasionally). And here, well, we just love to do it, don't we?

Easier than doing it myself! ;):p

Indeed, it is. And better fun - sometimes - too. And I write that as one of nature's more profligate spendthrifts…...
