Mighty fine! Although aren't you concerned that the brass may clash with the sleek silver Londinium?;)

Clash!? Clash!? It's the smooth and clever blending of complementary colors that separates the true aesthete from the tasteless...the philistine! Any fool can make everything match, but the true artist blends colors in a manner pleasing to the eye.

And anyway...the handle matches...

He's going to have to buy a new LD and get a gold iPhone... because as he says, aesthetics count!

I don't know what an LD is (you coffee connoisseurs and your abbreviations!)...so I won't get a new one.

As an avid reader of MR, everyone knows that the color of your phone is a gender issue. I've read, and of course believe what some 16 year old insecure child has written, that gold phones are for women only. Men who carry them are...well...questionable, if you catch my drift! And since it appears here, on MR, written by some insecure...ah...immature...er...insightful person, it must be true.:p:p

An excellent level-headed suggestion!

You have found a protege in the let's-spend-some-other-person's-money club.

Ah, well, I should despair, instead, I read with fascination. The sort of fascination which precedes witless purchases,…..

And anyway, yes, well, what on earth is wrong with deciding an - unplanned? as in spontaneous- purchase on the basis of 'The handles match'? Nothing…..

This is a thread for those of us who love coffee, espresso, and their ilk….Thus, it should come as no surprise that I spent a bizarre amount of time (a time described as only yesterday) brooding over (and, of course, admiring) coffee machines to be purchased in an indeterminate future.

Yes, Shrink, my dear friend, I have read your advice about roasting and grinding; the latter I will (in some future life that does not involve any stress whatsoever), pay heed to; the former abjure.

This is because….to be entirely candid, my view is that life is too short to stuff mushrooms, and roast coffee beans…..but then, maybe, that is just me…...

A sure sign of sanity!

Roasting is for the deeply bent...grinding is really a good thing. You can't beat the freshness of freshly ground coffee...it does, truly, make a discernible difference.:D

I can vouch for that!

Yes, my friends. I hear you. Nevertheless, I still, um, hold the heretical view that mushrooms need not be stuffed…..and coffee beans need not be ground (at least, not by me…..and, most certainly not in this life, the next life, nor, for that matter, the one after that, either...)

However……

However, it may come as an unwelcome surprise to those of us (you?) who hail from from the world that gave birth to the inestimable Benjamin Franklin (the Founding Father I most admire, without an atom of doubt), that there are parts of the world where - to put it mildly - where, if one can obtain coffee beans, let alone make plans to have such…….ground…..(snigger)…well, this ranks as a definition of almost obscene, self-indulgent luxury……

Someday, someday, I shall live in a world, where 1) someone else grinds my coffee for me, and 2) imports my coffee beans - fresh - for me, and 3) makes a fresh espresso for me…..

Until then, I must make do with "the boys" (sweethearts, both) in our coffee shop, who, to the stupefaction of (some) colleagues, make double espressos (in real ceramic cups) for me on a daily (nay, sometimes, hourly) basis….

Yes, my friends. I hear you.

Ah.. Oh. My most humble apologies. My comment wasn't directed at you by any means. Looking back over the last few posts, it would appear that we were ganging up on you over the grinding of beans.

I was merely just vouching, in general terms, to the casual reader (if there are any of this thread) that I learned that there is a distinct difference in taste when you are able to grind your own and only the portions that you need at that time, or having to rely on pre-ground or DIY grinding of whole bags at a store and grinding.

I did something out of character for me tonight. I woke up to go outside between 2am and 4am (local time of course) to see a meteor shower caused by a passing comet.

It turned out to be a dud of a show as I only saw one shooting star and a few flashes of light the whole time.

That's okay though, because it was still neat to be outside in the middle of the night on a cool, but not cold evening, looking up at the stars. To aid in keeping warm while being out there, I enjoyed a couple cups of coffee, made in the French Press, of the Three Africans blend that our friend, Kurwenal, sent me not too long ago.

It was a delightful pleasure to sip such lovely coffee and be gazing at the celestial beauty of outer space from my balcony - even if there weren't any shooting stars this time.

Turning lemons (poor meteor shower) into lemonade (a pleasant night of coffee and sky gazing). Too bad my crappy grinder won't work on the African beans. I guess I'll have to buy a Mazzer grinder just for those beans!

Or, just possibly, NOT!:p

I've heard it's a really great grinder, especially for the price. I really think you ought to buy it. You know to have it on standby in case the power goes out and you need to grind. Oh, wait. :p

You do realize you're supposed to have a separate grinder for each type of bean, right? I'm shocked you would suggest otherwise...

I guess I just have too face the fact that I'm a coffee low brow...and cheap!

Please don't banish me from this thread...I'll try not to bring down the level of sophistication in the future.:(

Am I to infer from the foregoing that the (stratospherically priced) but exquisitely crafted Londinium grinder is too…….delicate?……temperamental?……distracted?……ah, possibly over-worked?…...to manage the stressful and psychologically taxing task of having to grind (inferior) coffee beans?

My grinder (actually an HG-one...the Londinium is the espresso machine) just couldn't grind the wonderful African beans that Kurwenal had so generously sent to some of us. They were very small, fairly light roast and not really intended for espresso use (better for pour-over or press grind)...and were like little rocks. The electric machines could handle them, but my grinder, which only grinds for espresso, just couldn't do it. My grinder just bound up, and no amount of effort would get it to grind the little rocks.

Others, who ground the beans for pour-over, or press (very course grind) were able to use them. But they were really not intended for espresso grind.

OR

My physical condition resembles bad coffee...old and weak!

I do believe he was alluding to the furry footed hobbits that have been known to frequent this thread.

KGB:cool:

I guess I'm a teeny bit oversensitive...

I'm in the cooling cycle of a coffee roast, so in a minute I'll be storing the new roast for the resting period, and making myself a second espresso of the morning with my current batch.

But first I'm going to check my brow level...some trimming may be necessary!:p

It's been a while since I've had my favorite beans from Tim Hortons. I picked up a bag yesterday.

This is the first time using the French Press with them and boy does it taste good! ☕

It's great to have a reliable source of beans that you always know you will enjoy. It means when you experiment a bit with a new bean or blend, you know there is that reliable bean that is guaranteed to please you.

Enjoy, Mate!:D

Thanks.

Usually, I have one cup at a time or even per day. But this cup was so delicious, that I'm about to make a second cup!

Yes, well, I remain an ardent devotee of the French press method of coffee making; it is undemanding, and reassuring, while consistently providing reliably good coffee……..

Enjoy….

Shrink, SandboxGeneral and most of you other mad coffee people. Have any of you tried MistoBox? http://www.mistobox.com/

They seem to send out 4 roasts monthly (I see some good roasters on their list, Verve/Klatch) and you lucky folks stateside can get quite a fill of varied coffee goodness monthly!

On a side note, i've ordered enough coffee to last me 2 months at least, but after that i'm thinking of trying Stumptowns Hair Bender and perhaps something else. Does anybody have any experience with Handsome Roasters?
