I like the Marine's anchor emblem you did with the crema. Did you use a spoon and or toothpick?

Nope. That's just Expobar espresso art. It's just the way it extracted, I didn't do anything to it.

Puts on Shrink hat.

Really? That's amazing. It's abundantly clear that the espresso Gods are telling you something, SBG

Takes off Shrink hat.

Jokes aside, I'm rather impressed. I've never gotten crema art from pulling my shots. Just "flat" crema.

All the shots this wonderful machine pulls gives me some type of "art" if you will. After you pointed it out I had to look at it again to see what actually was there. Initially I was more interested tasting it than looking at it.
I forget who it was that said one should both visually and physically taste their food and drink.
[doublepost=1473200180][/doublepost]SBG, do you have any experience with Coffee Gator, Lovffee or Tightvac containers?

It warms my heart to see this thread as heavily caffeinated as ever, but I am going to have to pick up my game to keep up with y'all!

SS, the new L/M machine is the Linnea Mini, which you had asked me about a while back. The "Mini" name is a bit ironic, since it is actually larger than my GS/3. But true to its name, it is built like a tank and, if anything, produces a more stable temperature flow than the GS/3, which is saying a lot. I needed a new machine for our place up in the mountains, so I went with the Mini just for something to play around with. I like it. Reminds me of a high end Rocket. I miss the volumetric dosing from the GS/3...I guess I have become more addicted to that than I had realized.

The advertising promises the "perfect" shot. Not so far....:)

Anyway, what can I say about coffee. I was on a FP kick for a while, really playing with the (heavily filtered) Espro, which is a very nice FP if you don't mind the filtering, which I do....but fun to play with. In practice, it is more akin to a Chemex than a true FP, which sounds crazy I know but it's what I think, although unlike the Chemex you have more control over brew time.

More recently, I am back to espresso. I roast on Sunday and drink the rest of the days of the week. Two double ristrettos each morning, then I switch to water and tea for the rest of the day. It's a rut, but it is a rut I like. Moka Kadir most the time these days, but always with a bag of something purchased commercially here and there.

Mr. Frank-en-Furter: very happy to see you posting regularly. That is a great thing. I continue to believe this is all part of an experiment you are running....

Ahem...comme toujours...you!

Well, your newfound love of coffee is surely a shock, but you'll be welcomed here nonetheless. Maybe you should start out with a bit of Folgers Vanilla Biscotti beans and take it from there?

You know....I have tried to think of a worthy response. I have failed......

View attachment 648701 Received the new blend I ordered from Atomic Coffee today, "Black Velvet".

Tastes good and quite smooth, almost velvety. ;)

But what a work of art. I hope you enjoyed it.

A man with the right priorities in life.

Ah, so that is the Linea Mini - I remember that I had asked you about it (and must say that I love the look of it), but hadn't taken your subtle hint that you had actually purchased this exquisitely beautiful machine.

Well, I look forward to a detailed review. Meanwhile, enjoy using it, and know that you have my complete and captivated attention.....

Cool!

Today, I managed two proper espressos in a wonderfully remote restaurant the place where we had yesterday's raspberry milkshake. Then, lots of driving (approximately 500 km in total today), on top of the 300km approximately of yesterday. And quite a few meetings before, during and after.

And, yes, more coffee, - which was actually very good - along with some excellent tea.

More meetings tomorrow.

What does that have to do with the lack of a new MacBook Pro? Huh? Huh? Huh? Come on, answer!

(Oh, wrong thread....never mind).

A MBP? Nothing.

Once upon a different time, shortly before I discovered this forum and lurked awhile, I had just bought a MBP.

(Oh, wrong thread).

Coffee: I had four cups of coffee today; two of which were very good espressos, and two of which - another place over 100km from the previous place - served as espresso. It wasn't espresso; it wasn't bad coffee - in fact, it was perfectly adequate coffee, but it wasn't espresso.

My problem today was that I had two meetings (one where I was asked questions, or rather, interviewed) before my first espresso of the day, as our hotel only served tubes of the banned 'i' word for breakfast, and did not indicate much interest in amending that position.

So, I contented myself with a cup of tea. Espresso would have been better. For my mind. My colleague, meanwhile, retreated into a severe silence at these first two meetings; he needed an espresso and a cappuccino to greet the world. Then he can sing operatically, or tries to, some mornings.

Our local staff, lovely people, are beginning to learn the necessities of our lives.

I admit nothing… nothing, mind you…

But if I happened to have a psych graduate student under my supervision who was looking for a Dissertation topic, this thread would be perfect for a dissertation entitled "Monomaniacal Compulsive Behavior In Individuals Actually Permitted To Walk The Streets".

Not that such a Dissertation is actually in progress.

Of course not.

I admit to nothing...

And a bit more on topic... I just finished afternoon cup of Intelligentsia El Diablo blend... Delicious.

I finally received my latte reward points from Whole Latte Love for the purchase of the Expobar 60 days ago. I have $24.14 in credits to use. I was going to get that Bonivita scale but they're no longer in production and no one has them in stock anymore unless I want to pay 3 or 4 times what they're worth.

Then I thought about a bottomless portafilter, but I don't think I need one of those per se and it would make cleanup a bit more work from splatter I think.

I do have 1 year in which to use the credit though...

Well, then, no need to rush this purchase.

Rather, put some time, and research and thought into just what else in the coffee world requires your attention and would enhance the quality of your life.

I also looked at tampers too, there is a Rocket branded aluminum one that looked nice. I don't need a new tamper but I have a desire to collect ones that look neat to me.

I saw a really nice all copper tamp not too long ago in a video and I've wanted it ever since, but can't seem to locate many online.

So sorry you were unable to get the Bonavita scale. I will keep my eyes open for any reasonably price 0.10gram resolution scales.

I've been looking around too. Bonivita makes a newer model and there is only 1 review on Amazon and it wasn't a great review either.

I previously purchased a 0.1g/0.05g resolution scale from a Ritual Coffee location and I've found it pretty good. I looked on their website and found this one, although it looks like a different model from mine. At $20, it may be worth a shot.

Have you been happy with the scale thus far? It sounds like a winner based on specs, my next concern would be quality.

I think we all spoke briefly about this company in the past. Their logo and some merch have what appears to be communist overtones to it - not that it really bothers me - but what was their story again?

I have been happy with it, yes. The quality isn't the absolute highest, but it is accurate and has served me very well over the past few years without any problems.

Not sure what their reasoning was for their logo, which I do rather enjoy. But you can rest assured that they are committed capitalists---which, well, nevermind. ;)

Okay, based on your overall satisfaction I've placed an order for one. $27 isn't a bad price at all for resolution of up to .05 grams!

$7 isn't too bad considering I usually have to pay even more than that on coffee orders from the west coast.
Hmm, well I guess I do pay ~$8 for shipments from Sweet Maria's, but I usually order quite a lot. And on top of that it's $5 in bridge tolls to pick it up in person......

FP'd the remaining JBM beans for missus and me this morning. Good way to start off a Wednesday.
A FP is a great way to start off any day of the week!
