Just had a horrible 24 hours suffering from a (self diagnosed) bladder infection (pain in left side of back, temperature (high and low) then pain in stomach and groin, finally moving to bladder with frequent feeling of need to urinate) (sorry about that!). Was up until 3am. Woke at 7 and all back to normal! Back to bed and now just up. Feel exhausted and for now only managed a bowl of porridge and a cup of Yorkshire tea, both with full fat organic milk.

Cranberry juice is your friend. Been there, done that.

Bowl of porridge and cup of tea sounds like my daily breakfast routine (with skimmed milk).
 
The extract pill or hibiscus tea (cold or hot) work, too. Feel better, @Dave Meadows.

Anyway, woke up this morning feeling like I hadn't slept in days with an aching head. Promised the kids pancakes and so I did. The dad version included a splash of Grand Marnier. Because I could. After playing and reading to them, they had their multi-hour naps (praise the heavens) and so I took a nap as well.

Porridge is do damn versatile. You can add almost anything to it and it tastes wonderful. I'm quite fond of adding some crushed garlic (no milk, just water or broth), salt, chili powder, fried mushrooms and a generous helping of cheese. Maybe some scallions for the health/veg factor so you don't feel guilty.

Woah, I'm going to have tor try that or some variation of it...I already like switching up the brown sugar/ maple syrup and porridge combo for something more savoury usually involving sharp cheese.

I can't even remember what made me try it. It's simply a vehicle for flavor and or addins. I've been making the cheese variant for about four years. I rarely have sweet porridge these days. I think the savory porridge craze is relatively new, about 11 years would be my best guess.

Originally, I was planning on porridge this morning topped with last night's leftover cod Thai curry, but the pancakes looked wonderful and I hadn't had them in years. I much prefer waffles. Texture is everything.
 
Enjoying a nice mug of tea with a sable. Take a nap and hopefully wake up in time to watch the 'Spurs match. Provided I don't fall asleep midway through.
 
Having a lovely cup of Earl Grey with a dash of full fat organic milk. Dreary weather here today. Persistent rain. Planning on staying indoors and keeping warm.
 
Look I know the Easter bunny well he's three feet tall and sat in the corner of our bedroom for nearly 19 years!
Clearly he's fattened up to the point for a nice roast. Just crack the back of his fuzzy head when he's not looking. I recommend a 10" cast iron pan.

Ooh, reading the news! This is one of my “things” of interest as in which platform? Physical paper, paid subscription on tablet/phone or free?

When I am home, I prefer the physical feel of a newspaper, or periodical or magazine.

Obviously, abroad, I read the news online, on my computer.

We don't do the weekend paper because it's usually filler. It's mainly online and then a few subscriptions here and there. Local paper used to be good years ago. It's steadily gone down in quality over the last 10 years or so.
 
Well, and I'm only going to mention this on this thread and perhaps the photo section, this past Friday marked the 40 days of my father's passing. All part of what - save a few bright spots - made 2017 a real annus horribilis for me. Now my family are occupied in making sure my mother is taken care of, for example finally moving to an apartment which my parents had been planning for some time. Bringing her out her to stay for some months in Europe.

That said there are already good signs for this year, for example, my current Spring semester class of exchange students from the US are proving to be more intellectually oriented, interested and proactive than last semesters' group. They even managed to survive last Thursday's excursion to visit and see presentations at: the WTO, UNCTAD, the UN library and a general tour of the UN Geneva building (what you all certainly know was the HQ of the old League of Nations). Friday had a lecture by a seasoned diplomat. Many personal projects as well off to a good start.

I would expect LavAzza drinkware would be attractive and quite solid - after all, it is designed and manufactured by Italians, and they make the best - and most elegant - coffee gear in the world.

Re LavAzza coffee: If I am in a poor country, or a third world country, I will fall upon LavAzza with delight.

If, however, I am in western Europe, the choices open to me are considerable and I wouldn't - as a rule - buy LavAzza. It is a perfectly acceptable relatively basic Italian coffee.

Just started my second mug from the LC of Ethiopian, yum and yum!

Enjoy - excellent choice.

Bought some excellent Kenyan and Ethiopian coffee yesterday and today.
 
So back to coffee, one of my colleagues bought this:

She also bought coffee pods (shock) that fit this machine although it is mainly meant to use ground coffee like any other espresso machine. The pods are actually made of paper so biodegrable and were chosen because between our two programs we have 45 students that would make a worse mess in our small office. The pods are made with Guatelmala beans and are actually not bad - a huge improvement over instant or the Nespresso in my former office.

My main complaint I find the coffee never quite hot enough and am not sure why.

EDIT: Never mind I figured it out. Decent "free" coffee for a change. :)
