Starting a bag of Big Truck from Olympia Coffee today. Always one of my favorites and this time with a blend of Latin American and African coffees is no exception.

My move to single dosing has proven to be a challenge for my wife so I am trying out some Craig Lyn Bean Vaults that claim to keep the beans fresh and allow me to pre-weigh the dose and eliminate that step for my wife. I don't mind using the vacuum canister and weighing as I go and that allows me to spritz a little and minimize static, which isn't much of an issue with the vaults and not spritzing with a little water now that the burrs are breaking in.

Enjoy your beans.

But I highly doubt companies that do self-overrating descriptions like that, so I had to surf on it 😃
and found:

To their defense it also seemed to have some good reviews too.

If this had been in the 80's or so when the whole bean sale’s wasn’t that huge that it is today, they might have fooled me 😂

Today I can even walk down to my closest grocery store and find really good beans, actually.
Not that I buy my beans there, but in a case of emergency I could and wouldn’t suffer at all.
The quality of beans today are way better then like 20-30 yrs ago, and the availability are at least 1000% better today.

But it’s kind of you to support this little company.

Yours is one of the stranger replies I have read. Good thing I do not rely on Tripadvisor for my coffee purchasing recommendations’, especially from someone that drinks vanilla flavored coffee. I am blessed to live in a pretty good location with exceptional local roasters and tend to put more weight on recommendations from the area coffee enthusiasts’ as well as a group associated with KafaTek, and Olympia Coffee is regularly rated as one of the best local espresso roasters, but most importantly, based on personal experience and taste preference. But as my son would say, you do you. All companies rely on some type of marketing, even small companies, and while I’m sure good coffee can me bound in them, I haven’t purchased coffee in a grocery store in decades.

Your son is smart 👍🏻
We obviously have very different opinions - Why not?
I still wouldn't trust or like a company with that kind of marketing, but that's me.

Enjoy your espresso, however you do it!

Out of curiosity, what marketing are you referring to? The label? Self-overrating descriptions like what? They believe they make good espresso or the transparency of what growers, beans and processes they use for a specific batch while providing more detail online? I would hope they believe they offer an excellent espresso roast and I wouldn't buy it a second time if I didn't agree. Or did you visit the website and read the blog, owner profiles or something else?

What coffee roasters do you recommend for espresso roast and why do you trust them and not Olympia Coffee? I am open minded to learn if the source is credible.

Drop it, to me as an European it’s just rings false when I hear that kind of self-marketing, especially from what seems like a very small brand internationally speaking, 'and they think it might be the best espressso blend you can find'. Sure.

I have nothing to recommend you - I haven’t seen you in this thread before even.
If you want other people’s inspiration, read the thread.
It's plenty of people here who enjoy a variations of Espresso and Coffee, and we have all shared our love for Espresso for a long time.

I apologize and will leave your private club. All the best.

Apologies, but you used the word "moderation" in association with "coffee".

Does not compute...
It was a play on the other thread title which kicked off the "drinking coffee at night" topic.

I do drink caffeine in moderation though; I suffer a daecaf espresso when having my late-night drink before I go to bed. I like the aroma and it's comforting, despite the slight-but-noticeable drop in taste.

To me the whole point of coffee is the caffeine; that is why I would never dream of drinking decaff, but would take tea, or a glass of water, instead.

An aside: And this would never have happened in my youth: Yes, I'm nocturnal by temperament (always have been), and naturally more alert at night than early in the morning.

However, I will concede that my late night coffee last night did not actually aid the onset of slumber.

I love the routine of making espressos. I like the flavour and the aroma. The caffeine is also useful, but at midnight I'm having a decaf one. I could drink water instead, but ... I am doing. Coffee flavoured.

Agree, but take my advice, do not try Red Bull as a coffee replacement.
No, never.

Coffee for me (brilliant when writing for student publications through the night that had to arrive at the printer early the following morning, or pulling an all nighter with a term paper deadline, or when revising for exams; and my students never seemed to realise that we had done what they were doing....)

No, I suppose that what I am saying is that in my student days (and in my teaching career), I drank endless cups of coffee late into the evening and night on a regular basis.

I do so a lot less frequently nowadays, and - somewhat to my surprise - I seem to notice it (and its effects) when I do.

Agreed.

Actualy, I love the routine of preparing almost any kind of coffee, be it espresso, filter coffee, French Press, or my beloved moka pot (a week-end treat, that last).

I love to push the right buttons on my Espresso machine.
Well, sometimes pushing the 'right' buttons on people are rewarding too 😎

Waiting for the machine to deliver a late big Espresso ♥️

You know, the idea of decaf never appealed to me thinking that the caffeine was a necessary component of the experience. I never drank decaf as a result. However, I do not drink coffee into the night because it has, on occasion, disrupted my sleep. So maybe I need to revisit my biases. The key issue for me would be whether decaf, as a coffee replacement late in the day, tastes as good as the real thing. Can you detect a different flavor from the decaf? Does it taste as good as the real thing?
