still on a quest for a good decaf espresso. the S&W roasting decaf was good, with the caveat that they accidentally roasted one of their decaf batches to medium. it actually tasted best slightly overextracted. their normal light roast is not as good for espresso but i guess that's not a surprise. i don't think the medium roast is going to be a thing going forward, which is too bad.

tried the george howell decaf and it was ok but it took almost 10 days to arrive. a cross country trip, but come on UPS. shipping was really expensive.

Unfortunately, I'm not really in much of a position to advise you, guide you, or help you, on this, as, to my mind, caffeine is the whole point of coffee, (or, at the very least, one of the main reasons why one would wish to, and choose to, drink coffee).

well when you are old enough that the caffeine starts affecting your sleep, you'll understand

at any rate why not then just take no-doze tabs? coffee tastes good, aside from the caffeine.

Trust me, I am old enough.

In any case, I am one of those who needs caffeine to be barely human in the morning, I am not a morning person, and caffeine at night rarely bothers me.

Moreover, in my student days, caffeine through the night helped when putting together student publications, pulling all-nighters, and, more recently, when writing and submitting reports with (very) tight deadlines, caffeine has been invaluable.

And necessary.

No tabs.

Just coffee and caffeine for me.

Always.

Coffee tastes good, and the caffeine helps make it taste good, as it is the whole point of the beverage (well, most of the point of the beverage).

Whole Latte Love got back to me and told me that V1 Silvia machines should be backflushed. I did it!

I'm really enjoying Peet's Espresso Forte. But, three double espressos a day leaves me shaky; two is the magic number.

I like the taste of coffee.

The caffeine is an added bonus most of the time, but as I like the aroma and taste of an espresso late in the evening, I switch to a decaf one for that.

I actually have a Nespresso machine for those, as their Arpeggio decaf is pretty good. I don't use the Nespresso for for anything else though.

I've been away in the land of "no coffee available"......even the nearby Starbucks wasn't available (staffing problems it seems) ......but I'm back....and I survived.... somehow.

Anything interesting coffee-wise from these 'other places"?

One of the "other places" coffees is an Ethiopian Harrar. It's quite enjoyable; local heirloom variety, winey, fruit focussed (some sort of dark berry) and a bit of chocolate, especially in the finish......there's not much left of it unfortunately.

Also nearing the end of the package is a yellow bourbon from the Ka'u district on Hawaii; chocolate, nutty and malt are the flavor notes.....it's a little too much of a dark roast for my taste though. It would have been fantastic as a medium roast I think.

And there's a bit more in the package of red honey processed beans from Colombia. These make a nice cup with flavor notes of mango, apple, and caramel. They don't list the variety of the coffee plant though, which I always like to know

The monthly Hawaiian coffee subscription arrived while I was in no-coffee exile, but fortunately the teenager who delivers it has promised to bring my share this afternoon.

I usually only drink espresso 1 time/day, but it happens that I take an evening espresso as well.
Haven't noticed that the caffeine affects my sleep at those times.

From my experience the caffeine gives a short high, and after that I get a low of tiredness.
So to me it can actually help to get sleepy if I time it well when I drink it in evenings/nights.

I have known people that wont been affected much at all of the caffeine, and some who has been very sensitive for the caffeine. So it's pretty much each to their own, as most things around these lovely beans.

Maybe everyone's different, but once you learn your timings, that should work!

I tend to go to bed around 1am, and around 11pm is when I have my decaf coffee. Before that it's a "normal" one, or more likely a cup of tea. I'm English, after all.

I saw a programme a while back that said if you want an afternoon nap, have an espresso immediately before you do. Apparently, the caffeine takes around 20 minutes to take effect so it'll wake you up nicely.

I occasionally have an espresso 15-20 minutes before a home workout, hoping the kick gives me motivation

Nailed it.

I finally got to try the Yemen coffee! I haven’t roasted my beans yet, but my friend had, and I had some at her house yesterday. I’m not roasting mine until my new thermometer comes in because I don’t want to ruin the beans!

It was definitely a delicious coffee!

Yum.

That sounds amazing.

I'm delighted for you, (and envious for me), but I hope that you enjoy it.

It's cloudy and chilly outside but I'm inside enjoying a hot mug of some yeast processed coffee from the north shore of Oahu

My morning routine while vacationing in Maui is to take a walk to Hawaiian Village Coffee near Lahaina, order a quad Cortado for myself and an oat milk latte to carry back to our room for my wife. Very good locally roasted coffee and the friendliest service you could imagine. They already know my name and what I order. I almost don't miss my home routine.

Freezing cold this morning. Warmed up and woken up a bit with an espresso.

I’m like on old car that doesn’t want to start unless I have my 5am espresso.

Likewise.

This antique automobile - venerable or vintage - (for I am someone who was born middle aged) - will not manage a sputtering start (let alone awaken, or approach a state that resembles a civil and functioning member of the human race) without my morning coffee.

I have been wanting to make a Cortado to try. Any pointers? From what I’ve read it’s half espresso, half steamed cream. I wanted to try it for my no-sugar journey.

But where are you freezing cold? It’s so hot here I can barely stand it already, and it’s only June. 😩
