(1) espresso
(2) pour-over
(3) press
(4) redundancy in case of failure!

This is basic coffee brewing!

I was thinking he is (appropriately) very careful about heat, so:

5 am
6 am
7 am
8 am
11 am
1:30 pm
4 pm
7 pm

The dude needs four more grinders.

Of course... this makes perfect sense.

Once again my ignorance regarding basic coffee knowledge is on display for all to see.

It's so embarrassing!

It is the RAICG set-up: Redundant Array of Independent Coffee Grinders.

Ahah! But we still need some redundancy in the case of failure! Better make it a round 10 grinders to be safe.

Perfection - an idealised and much sought state of sublime bliss that is exceedingly difficult to achieve anytime, but is doubtless doubly difficult when faced with the specific and testing challenges posed by [attempting anything around the time of day known as] morning time.....

Sure looks like it!

This makes me want to brew another cup, but I have to catch the train soon.

Perhaps I should invest in a travel mug....

Travel mugs.....Hm. Yes.

A design challenge awaits us here, my friends. While there is no doubt of the actual need for this invention in our modern world, I think it is no secret if we admit that the design sensibility of the travel mug has yet to achieve the sublime heights of some of the better offerings from Italy, or Scandinavia......

Good morning! That makes me want one now. Too bad I'm at work and separated from my machine.

Drink one for me!

Yes, for me, too.....

Aahhhh!

A beauty!

Definitely time to go pull (!! :p) a double shot!

Ah, yes. But it is always (the right) time - is it not? - to, em, pull.............a double shot.

Classic Coffee Commercial question

I'm probably dating myself here, but as a kid I remember a commercial for some brand of coffee that asked the question (about your early coffee tasting experience):

"Did it get any better... or did you just get used to it?"

Now, personally, coffee did get better. I went from drinking free-dried Nescafe to artisan-roast Arabicas.

But the tag line (ie. did XYZ get any better, or did you just get used to it..?) could be applied to any number of human experiences.

Does anyone else remember that commercial? What brand was it for? Folgers? Tasters Choice? Something else? And better yet, point me to a YouTube video of it...

Thanks in advance. Even if its just to tell me I'm hallucinating.

Drink one for me!

I did 4 x 2 this morning, so I think I took care of drinking one for the entire thread.....it just tasted so good.

I know this is odd to say, since I drink it every day, or most every day, but it is just shocking how good good espresso tastes. It (the taste, not the caffeine) hits you right in the forehead and then the chest, instantly making the world a better place. Perfect balance, the bitter-sweet-acidic balance, perfect crema, perfect temperature, the warmth, the aroma hitting before the taste, spreading. Boom, there it is. I can think of few things that taste as good as espresso, and none that tastes better.

Perhaps I should invest in a travel mug....

This is what I currently use.

How is it coming with the Londinium, taste wise?

I do not, but I sometimes troll YouTube looking at old (50s/60s) coffee commercials. I will keep this one in mind.

Thanks for asking.:D

More and more consistently good, to very good, shots. I think a dose of 16.5 - 17 GMs is optimal. The usual grind adjustments with each new blend/roast...very fine adjustments.

And a consistent 6-7 second pre-infusion, although when I go pull a shot in a few minutes, I'm going to go nuts and try a 9 second pre-infusion just to see what happens.

I wasn't going to show this, but I'm among friends! :p

First, I don't wear logo T shirts...I don't feel the need to be a walking billboard for some company. That said, I discovered that Londinium doesn't have a T shirt, so I had one made up for me by grabbing a screenshot of the logo off the website. We won't discuss how many copyright laws I've violated...but we'll keep my secret here.

The picture is lousy, so I also included a shot of the stolen logo, so the details are a bit more clear.

The important, key details must be addressed at the outset. So, first of all, allow me to congratulate you on what is clearly an increasing mastery of something you are already exceedingly proficient at - namely, pulling an espresso (or two).

Secondly, well, the Londinium (and yes, I love that name, too), is clearly justifying its purchase, its price, and the sheer wonder of the splendour of its existence as it sits on your shelf, bestowing a benevolent blessing on the craft of producing the perfect espresso.

Now, to T-shirts. Personally, I wear them rarely, and ones with a logo, never. (Age, snobbery, the sheer tackiness of so many, not to mention the lousy - doubtless unethically acquired - quality of the tatty cotton that is invariably used in their manufacture - there are many reasons for my dislike....)........

My Other Brother has a partner, who is decent, German, logical, hard-working and is the bearer of a Master's in Marketing & Economics (along with a few other degrees besides).

Years ago, in that earnest, thoughtful German way, she observed that the world of t-shirt logos were an expression of utterly triumphalist capitalism.

"In the old days, they paid you - or newspapers, or TV, - for space to advertise their products. Now, you pay them - so they get advertising for free - and you are walking around advertising their product by wearing it, and paying for it!"

However, I will concede that if a T-shirt must be worn, black is the colour to choose; and if a logo must be emblazoned on it, why, then select a nice, elegant timeless font in which to write it; readers of this thread, (and countless others) will know my passion for elegant fonts (Garamond, Times New Roman, Arno, etc)....... so, yes, actually, a very nice t-shirt indeed......

As I mentioned, and in full agreement with you and your Other Brother's partner, I never wear logo T shirts...just plain black T shirts in the warmer months (which need to get here soon!).

I've just clearly lost all perspective over this espresso machine.

Plain black t-shirts (in high quality - preferably ethically sourced and/or organic cotton) are what I sometimes wear in warm weather, occasionally with a light jacket.

But 'Londinium' is quite entirely forgiven; after all, none of us would even dare show so much as the merest glimpse of a profiled countenance were it not for the fact that we are quite utterly deranged.......about matters relating to caffeine, espresso and its consumption....so all excess is excused and better still, enthusiastically condoned.....by your peers and friends who dwell herein...

Looks like a nice cup. And no milk or cream to ruin it. Nice.

Maybe your phone has it correct. Think about the implications of that.....

Nice t-shirt! I wear them, but mostly at home while lounging around. When I go out or to work I'm either wearing a dress shirt or a polo shirt. Rarely do I leave the house wearing a t-shirt.

I purchased, well, leased, a new 2014 Ford Fusion SE this week. Why, you ask, am I telling you this in our espresso thread? It's because as I was reading the manual, on the iPad, which I downloaded from Ford's website, I saw an icon of a coffee mug on a couple of pages.

It turns out that the 'Driving Aids' section about 'Driver Alerts' is a system to determine the state of a drivers' alertness. The side with the steering wheel indicates that you're doing alright, and if the indicator is more towards the coffee mug, you may need to pull over for a double shot!

(My car doesn't have this particular option installed though)

First...major congratulations on the new car!

It's good to see that the appreciation for coffee, and it's...ah...side effects, is being disseminated in a wide variety of publications.

Nice to know that the car will anticipate your need for, and if it's very sophisticated, your desire for, some coffee. I'm very disappointed that it does not include a coffee production system, but I realize that may only being available in the super deluxe models.

Perhaps in 2 years when I turn this in, I can upgrade to the super deluxe model and get a nice E61 brew group machine installed in the car. ;)

Be very careful, you know those car salespeople...they'll try to bargain you down to a lesser machine!

The heck with the car...make sure the machine has a copper boiler along with the E61 brew group.

That's all I need....eventually.....my car grading my shots.

(Congrats on your new toy.)
