I will say, all the hero shots are really not accurate as to the bands true colors. I have all the sport bands, and they're mostly all pretty different (some very subtle heh). Here are shots on a semi sunny day inside my house.

1. Yes, they are much different. Cornflower is nicer of a blue IMHO.

Northern left, Cornflower right.

2.Azure is darker, they're similar.

Blue fog left, Azure right

3.Yes, they are different.

G1 Blue left, Surf Blue right

4.Royal blue is great, but Capri is very vibrant. Definitely different.

Royal left, Capri right.

5. Stone apple watch edition? Not sure what band that is - do you mean ceramic?
Crikey!! You legend!! Thanks for those, greatly appreciated.

Ref no 5 - my mistake, I meant ‘cloud’ apple watch edition, not stone. I have fog but am interested in a comparison with cloud if you have it.

Gotcha, no worries. :)

Here are cloud and fog.

Note: cloud (left) is much lighter than fog (right) and has (as per ceramic editions) a ceramic PIN.

I personally don't see the need for so many similar blues and such in my collection, but for those of us with that need or desire, this showcases exactly how it can come in useful. Nice comparisons! I think of the ones Matt asked about, I only have 5?

For sure, if anything at this point I have them all for comparisons like this - moving forward in perpetuity.

Do you have literally every band? If so, can I be cheeky and ask for a single comparison of a few so I can see them all together? If so:

White 2nd gen
White 1st gen
Cloud
Fog
Concrete
Light gray (apple watch edition)
Olive
Coastal gray
Cocoa
Gray/black (apple watch edition)
Gray
Dark gray (apple watch edition)

I appreciate that's asking a lot, so don't worry if it's too much. Really appreciate your help so far so don't want to overstep the mark!!

I think I bought his last one... oops!

I think your best bet will be to scour eBay and just hope one comes up. You could also email George to see if he has one he just hasn't listed, but I doubt it.

Well, shoot. I should have bought it a week ago then.

Yes, I have every single sport band. Its not a problem, here are the ones you request. Also, I took this picture under a lamp and adjusted the CRI so it would better perceptually match the other lighting conditions/real look.

Thank you so much!!

My 2 takeaways are:

1. I like cloud!
2. At the darker end, there appears to be nothing like I'm after! I was hoping for essentially a much darker version of fog, but all the darker gray bands seem to have a lot more 'brown' in them than fog. It looks from that picture that either gray/black or dark gray are the closest, but even they look to have brown tones, would you say that's right?

Does gray/black have a gray ceramic pin? I found it on Chargerstore in ebay (here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401867764202?hash=item5d912f71ea:g:8M4AAOSwgltgcfTp) and it's listed as 'Gray / Black - Gray Ceramic Pin'.

Is there any real notable difference between gray/black and dark gray? Or is it just that gray/black has the different colour (black) on the inside of the band?

Cloud is great, which is why its so rare ;-) The perceptual browness is definitely preset in certain lighting conditions, but not a deal breaker IMHO. No, there is no just darker 'fog' band - (that I can recall).

Apple seems to like to use extremely dark shades of one color to create others. Like, 'Midnight' which is a 'black' band but under light scrutiny is just a very very dark blue.

Your best bet in MY opinion is dark grey or the edition grey band. There is the SLIGHTEST less brown in the edition band - viewed under numerous lighting conditions by me (subjective).

Last option is just get them all hah!

Note : one thing i have not seen discussed much is that a lot of users have corrective lenses (myself included) and MANY of those lenses have a blue blocking filter on them, which will change the way stuff looks. Generally i take my glasses off and use contacts or just forgo when checking color based comparisons just due to variations in screen/capture etc. Worth noting as well! #soapboax

I can’t thank you enough for your help & advice over the last day or so. Really really alpreciate this, thank you. I’d been leaning towards trying the edition dark/gray and that decides it. Thank you.

What about good old Gray from 2017?

Yeah I do like that thanks, but on chipsandsalsa’s picture it looks like dark grey has a little less brown in it. This is definitely an option though thanks.
I do want to stress that lighting plays a BIG role. Here are dark grey, grey and edition grey/black in two different parts of my house - both with indirect sunlight/clear skies.

Yep, all "Edition" bands have pins that match the casing of the watch they were supposed to come from. Cloud has a white ceramic pin, Gray/Black is a gray ceramic pin, Light Gray has a natural titanium pin, and Dark Gray has a Space Black Titanium pin.

Gray 2017 is a true gray to me, no browns at all
So, like, am I going crazy? or are Gray and Gray/Black literally the same band? Of course one has the black underside and ceramic pin, but if you're only needing one and just want it for the color, Gray will be far cheaper (on average) and its the same "Gray" on the outside. At least, they're supposed to be, right?

And I think the reason pretty much every dark gray band gives brown undertones is because you get them both in the same way. Gray is just made by mixing a few different colors together, or mixing black and white, where black can also be made by mixing your primaries. Brown is also made pretty much in the same way, just by mixing a few colors together. (Usually leaning heavy on orange? I think) So when Apple sets out to mix their pigments to make a dark gray, they're basically just making a more neutrally toned brown. Least that's my guess.

That said, I'm no expert in color theory and this is all with about 3-4 minutes of backup googling. Take it all with a grain of salt.

That all makes sense to my logic too!

@chipsandsalsa or anyone else who has it, on the gray/black edition version, as the underside is black, does that mean when you're wearing it you can see the black edges around the pin holes like you can on Nike straps? I'm assuming so and this is therefore probably a daft question, but just wanted to check! (It would bug me enough that it would make me decided to order the dark gray instead of the gray/black).
