So on your phone, you can choose the 2018 and 2019 one. Just do that. Then go to your watch, to that particular face, force touch and customise. You can then choose 2020. Also this is assuming you updated the watch software today/yesterday?

Worked on my watch. Thanks for the instructions.

what size do you wear? I have a 38mm turquoise sport band
42mm, but I appreciate the lookout!

I suspect I might end up buying it to have one, but I might not open the box. At this point I don't think I'd ever wear it.

From what I see, open box and sealed box prides and other bands seem to go for about the same, so it doesn’t matter a whole lot if you open the box.

I’m personally really excited to get mine. I’m in a similar boat, I doubt I’d wear it, but it makes a good colorful display piece, and being the first (and currently only) sport band to have more than 2 colors on it, it has a novelty factor. Mine arrives Thursday, and I plan to keep the plastic on to remind me to never wear it, other than maybe for a photo.

The Nike, however, is really something else. If I can, and if there aren’t many enticing bands this summer, I might buy a second one to keep new as I wear the other one. I just love those color combinations, and seeing how quickly it got backordered, I suspect it’ll go for quite a lot in the future. Who knows.

Also, is this the most colorful sport band? Not counting the text, I count 8 colors of fluoroelastomer. That’s more than any other band I know of.

Also also, does anyone know if the text (“44mm, M/L, etc”) is printed or laser engraved on the sport bands? I hear both being said, and need clarification.

Looks like I might be adding green to my want list if Apple doesn’t issue a good new green band next month! I have to go now and search up some more photos.
Great summary of the greens! The original green is growing on me but like you I feel like it might be a bit intense and bright. I will think about it some more.

I’ve been on the fence about mint for a while (you’ve actually shared some good insight and photos with me). I have also contemplated both turquoise and beryl and of the two I think I prefer turquoise. However I also think I would love marine green based on the photos I’ve seen. Please share photos when you get it!

I have both pine green and khaki and really enjoy them both. I like the warmer tones of khaki a lot.

In terms of what I mean when I say a “good” green, I would like something like a Kelly or emerald green. British racing green would also be good but I like warmer greens more.

Green
Spearmint
Turquoise

Turquoise is definitely more blue. And flamingo which I’m wearing looks pink IRL but REFUSES to look anything but a shade of orange in photos.

Can confirm, Flamingo is 'Porange' irl. Sad I sold mine. Someone has them on eBay for $17.99, so I might grab a new one.

Edit: Here's the link if you guys are interested. 42mm Flamingo for $17.99

Out of curiosity, for those of you who bought the pride band(s), how many of you would identify as LGBTQIA versus as an ally? I don’t have an issue with allies wearing pride bands, though if I saw someone wearing one I would assume they’re queer. I’m assuming people who are homophobic/transphobic/biphobic et al. aren’t buying pride bands.

As an aside this is the first time in several years I won’t be marching in NYC Pride and it feels really sad despite knowing it’s necessary. Hopefully the pride bands can serve as a bit of a reminder.

This picture forced me to pick up Flamingo. Thanks!

it’s odd how common and cheap these are considering they were only available for one season. Wonder why.

I wouldn’t really identify as either. I try not to wear rainbows specifically for that reason, but at the end of the day, I do believe in the movement and it’s motivations. I bought the Pride bands for a few reasons, biggest being exclusivity. As you said, many won’t buy the Pride bands as they go against their beliefs, religion, or desire. The Nike one I can wear as it’s mostly white, which is why I bought the 2018 Pride. The rainbow sport band, however, I won’t be able to wear if I wanted to, just because of the area I live in.

TL;DR:

Bought them because they look nice and might become rare, but they’re not really something I’d wear. Nike, yes, but not the normal Pride 2020.

Side note- I don’t know if it’s the angle or the hair, but I thought that was Al Yankovic for a second.

Thanks for supporting the movement. And I’m a big Weird Al fan, so I’ll take that as complement!

Sometimes when I sit there and do nothing I get good ideas. This time, I don’t know if it’s necessarily a good or bad idea.

Alright, so you guys know how they have the watch bands table in the stores, right? And some stores even have separate whole displays on the wall for bands yeah?

What if for new releases, they had strips of colored paper or cardstock or something sort of like paint samples, that were the same color as the new band? Like, same exact color. That way you could take it home, compare to other bands in your collection, and live with it for a little to decide if you like it?

So basically just free paper to use to decide on your purchase

I land somewhere in here. Not homophobic, but neither am I proactive in this field. I like rainbows for rainbows, but wearing, or not wearing! both mean something now and I’m not trying to be either side so it just ends up making it a gray confusing area of trying to not offend anyone either way who knows what to even do 😂

Odd idea but cool! I wouldn’t care as much if they matched my other bands but more so my skin, watch color, clothes etc. Could be useful.

While I identify as a married heterosexual. I live in a neighborhood that is primarily gay. 95% of my friends are LGBTQIA. I have marched with them in many pride parades. So I totally support my friends and family members and my community. So wearing something rainbow/pride is normal for me.

Definitely risking taking this thread down a rabbit hole, judging by what I’ve seen other threads turn into when discussing pride bands; a trend that really does indicate where much of the world still sits on the whole topic, unfortunately.. but as for me:

I wear pride bands as an ally, and as I appreciate the designs.

The assumption of sexual orientation is interesting, by the way. I’d personally only assume as “far” as ally, if even at all.. but maybe that comes with my particular upbringing here in Canada.

On a less serious note...though I kind of regret using “Laffy Taffy” to give 2018 its candy epithet...can we safely say the new Apple pride band is Airheads?

(Nike is Dots or Jujubes)

Would have to agree its interesting to see what the implications are. What you said about appreciating the design is also something I would like to add on to.

I think the biggest influence in my purchase of the Pride sport band was the design and engineering behind it. That 6-tone stripe scheme is very nice, and now that Apple has put the design into production, I can’t wait to see what else they do with it.

To go back to the discussion earlier on the subject, I have heavy doubts that the design will be used for normal sport bands. Apple tends to reserve the bands with more than one color for special occasions, such as the previous two-tone edition bands. For that reason, I think we may see the striped bands for these occasions:

- Close Your Rings competition bands
- Olympic flags, similar to 2016
- Chinese New Year
- Pride bands

Of course, I hope I’m wrong. Would even be cool to see some limited quantity releases of special colors.

I hear Apple has been working with BMW on a car key thing. Imagine a black sport band with a BMW M stripe on it, as part of a BMW edition Apple Watch. Definitely not going to be a thing, but the new engineering allows opportunities!

With milk and everything. And isn’t it “Fruit” loops? 🤣

Oh, yeah, the white could be the milk. Then the gray is the bowl, I guess.

Maybe the designers were just really hungry that day?

And no, I always remembered it being Froot Loops. 🤔

So, I think I’ve figured out why I like the wavy design of the Pride so much.

You guys have those rainbow clay blocks in your schools growing up?

We had some rainbow clay blocks that were used for fractions or something, but on rainy days when we had indoor recess, we got to play with them instead. I remember they were somewhat pliable, so I would smush them together to make a sort of rainbow plate of clay. The edges were all wavy and uneven from me trying to stick them together, so it looked like the Pride band.

I miss elementary man.

I bought both Pride bands this year for the first time. The sport band is coming Thursday and the Nike version is coming mid-June.

Great pic! I would have definitely worn mine to Pride this year. I did get to wear my Apple Park shirt to West Hollywood Pride last year (and in my profile photo as well). 😀
