I remember people said it when the 2018 Pride Edition came out, but I’d love if they made the Pride Edition Nike Sport band in black. I mocked it up Real quick a few days ago:

Looks pretty cool, I think...

Having said that, I ordered one of each of the 2020 Pride bands. Got the regular already and the Nike one shipped today.
I'll take 2 please

Got my Nike band delivered. Standard sport band delayed. no rush for me - I may keep that boxed and literally in my closet. lol

Noticed this little detail when re-watching Juan's review.

Since when did they start matching the internal packaging to the band?
(side note- that side shot where Purple is the only visible color in the top right- wow! I need that.)

I hadn’t noticed, but I’m going with “just now”. Beryl has a grey band silhouette and Lime Blast a grey Nike band silhouette.

Out of curiosity, for those of you who bought the pride band(s), how many of you would identify as LGBTQIA versus as an ally? I don’t have an issue with allies wearing pride bands, though if I saw someone wearing one I would assume they’re queer. I’m assuming people who are homophobic/transphobic/biphobic et al. aren’t buying pride bands.
Staunch ally, I suppose. I’ve seen guys who I thought were quite attractive on occasion (and have been mistaken for gay more than once - I take it as a compliment), but I’m just so much more attracted to women. I don’t wear the pride bands specifically to show support (I mean, solidarity, sure, but not the “wearing it on your sleeve, look what I’m doing” kind), but I do very much believe that people shouldn’t face discrimination, or worse, because of who they love. I have some very good friends who are gay, but I don’t think of them as my gay friends, simply as my friends. Also, I like rainbows 🌈 and bright saturated colors. I have the first(?) woven nylon one, and the sport loop, and now the two new ones. I wear them at random, but sometimes when I’m going to see my nieces, who are at an age where they unironically love rainbows (and unicorns - excuse me, “land narwhals” - and mermaids and such), they don’t really know the history or associations, they just love the colors.

BTW, there’s a lengthy thread in this sub forum specifically about “is it okay to wear the pride bands if you’re not gay?”

Must be, because it made me go back and check all my other bands haha.

So how do you guys hear of the new bands?
How do I hear of new bands? Typically they launch overnight my time and I hear of them on this thread first. Or 9to5Mac, which I tend to visit at least daily.

I guess when things are normal, for two of the four annual drops I know when to look and go straight to Apple; WWDC day 1 and the day of the September iPhone keynote.

Last few years Apple released Summer bands on the first few days of June. Think they’ll be delayed further this year?

My assumption is no, because Pride bands were on time this year, but you never know.

Is it watch series 5? On series 4 I don’t see this color option (watchOS 6.2.5)
Yes, it’s a titanium Series 5.

I think it’s totally fine, as I said, for allies to wear the band as long as they recognize people may assume things about their sexuality based on it. What does grate on me is people pretending the band is just a rainbow band, when it’s clearly labeled a pride band, released to coincide with annual pride celebrations and goes to proceed LGBTQIA organizations in part. It’s cool to like rainbows and to wear the band to show solidarity, as you said you do, but when I’ve heard other people strip the significance of the band from its color, it’s like saying you can wear a cross, a crescent or a Star of David without people presuming things about your religion. Like it or not, in the same way these objects have come to symbolize their respective religions, rainbows have come to symbolize LGBTQIA rights and representation and to pretend otherwise seems to me obtuse as well as an erasure of LGBTQIA identity and culture.

Would love a titanium watch if I could afford one. How’s the finish feel for everyday use?
I love it, honestly. It does have a couple small scratches, though, but I try not to be obsessive about them. I got it for a birthday present which is how I can afford it. 😝

Awesome!

Let’s just skip summer. Deal?
Only spring bands I liked were Surf, Cactus, Midnight Turquoise Nike, and Lime Blast Nike. Only one I found worth buying though was Midnight Turquoise, so I think I'll wait to see what colors are released this summer. If nothing much stands out, I'll just buy the spring colors I liked.

Got a feeling Nike will release 2-3 I will 'need' though, and Apple might publish 1-2 more I like, so that's already $200-250.

Beryl, Khaki, Lemon Cream, Clementine, Pine Green, and Alaskan Blue are all about to disappear off the website. They’ve been sold out for a while now. Safe to say they’re discontinued.

For Nike,

Desert Sand, Pink Blast, and Royal Pulse are all about to go as well. That’ll only leave 4 permanent options left, (5 if you count Pride) which just makes me think more that Nike will be releasing some new ones. Doesn’t sound like Apple to only leave 4 options.
Hey @emiaj, Next time you upgrade the chart, might be worth taking a look at the website to see if I'm right on this. Right now you've got them extending down into Summer 2020, which I assume is just temporary until we get confirmation, but I just want to be sure!

Funny how the rainbow first gets its significance in the Bible, but now is fought to show another meaning, not the original, or even a neutral sign? I think rainbows should still be rainbows if you want, just like other colors are assigned to causes but don’t lock other people out from enjoying them. Not to derail this thread again, just an interesting thought to how much passion, often negative, is behind those certain specific colors together.

The most remarkable thing about Colbert rocking the new pride band has to be that (I believe) he’s been wearing Alaskan Blue loop on his space black steel since September. Certainly he and his wife both had it on earlier this week...very strange combo if you ask me.

His point is that the Pride Edition bands are made to celebrate Pride, are released to coincide with Pride, are marked with the word “Pride”. To pretend they are not to fit one’s own narrative is to diminish the significance of what Pride is about, and the political ramifications of expressing your association with the LGBT+ community.

I wouldn’t take issue with anyone wearing it primarily because they like the colours, as long as they are not inconsiderate of the fact that it IS a Pride band, not just a Rainbow Band. If someone is made uncomfortable by the LGBT+ association, then maybe that person shouldn’t wear it, cause it is disrespectful to a whole lot of individuals who, throughout their lives, have made the conscious decision to associate with the symbol (and/or the LGBT+ community) regardless of the potential danger that put them in.

As for the original significance of the rainbow, you have to consider that most mythologies seem to have some iconography related to rainbows, some amount of which predate monotheistic views of theology. Regardless of origin though, significance/symbolism changes with the times, and I’d wager that most people would associate the 6-color rainbow (as opposed to the traditional 7-color rainbow used for anything else) with the LGBT+ community. Similarly, you’d be hard pressed to find people in the western world recognizing the swastika as a symbol of divinity and spirituality (as that was its original significance supposedly) because it is now recognized as an immeasurably more vile image.

Also for me, I visit Hawaii often and it has a special place in my life. The Rainbow is the state symbol - honestly I don't care if anyone thinks I'm gay for wearing it - it's 2020 y'all

EDIT:

Let's change the subject. lol Someone already mentioned another thread about this..

Color predictions for the summer line up? ANYBODY?! :)

I am hoping for a black/red nike band lets make it happy already

Linen Blue, Coastal Gray, Neon Lime Sport Band, Neon Pink Sport Band

There’s also a “Sea foam” color option which is new in the watch faces! I guess we’ll see that color coming this summer as well.
My brain must have been blocking that out because it’s gonna be so close to beryl (not that coastal gray and linen blue as sport bands would be terribly fresh...and I don’t see Apple doing linen blue leather because Hermes did it)

It came and I love it!
Now the only question is, do I get the other Pride band as well? I’ve immersed myself fully in all the footage I could find and I’m 100% sold on the look of it but am trying to be prudent considering more bands might come next month that I also want. Decisions lol.
