As mentioned I was working on a new more compact overview of all the bands Apple released.
Its completely build from scratch. Took me some time, but here it is. :)

The new graphic is based on bigger images with a much higher resolution. Unfortunately it seems I deleted a folder with some Hermes bands, or cant find it right now. So if anyone downloaded the images which are missing or in low resolution, please let me know.

I re-arranged the bands in terms of colors (Thanks to @emiaj for the inspiration and great work) and added additional pin colors and the model number to every band—if available. Or if I could find one. Seems not to be an easy task.

The new graphic is less confusing and more compact—like a poster I would like to print out in full size. You still get most of the information you had before, like name, first release, and availability. So if you looking for a specific band or really like a color, the only information is missing, if Apple sold the band for few seasons. (But I try to figure out, if its possible to put this around the box as well.)

And its finally up-to-date.
I build the whole file in a different and more comfortable way, so updates will be an easy and fast task to do. The last one was really messy.

This is nice! Out of interest, what software are you using?

Photoshop. But with linked (not embedded) objects, so I can edit the boxes separately.

This is not meant to be instead of the version @emiaj updated the last months. It more a different approach on the same topic, and depends on what you like to do with it, you might like the one or other better.

Ah... well, @applewatchcollector implied there was a Series 0 Edition (i.e. 18K gold) Concrete Sport Band. I don't think there was though?

No. There were "only" seven models of the Edition. And bundled with a Sport Band only in white and black.

Do you know, so that I can update my spreadsheet, if it was available in 38mm and 42mm, or just 38mm?

Not sure. Couldn't find any 42mm, so might be 38 mm only.

I can't justify the high prices of the Apple bands when Third Parties are just about as good and at a fraction of the cost. I would rather buy knockoffs of all the bands instead of buying just one or two Apple made bands.

However, there is a lot of room for improvement here. I wish Apple was churning out new types of bands. They had some really good ideas.

Sorry my bad, I copied from incorrect list. That band was in the 38mm aluminium version: Concrete/Gold. I do not believe it was available in 42mm, at least I cannot find it under any searches for 42mm.

Can anyone confirm whether the Woven Nylon bands that came with Gold/Rose Gold in Watch bundles, listed as 38mm below, in fact came in 42mm as well? Again, I cannot find 42mm versions of them in my searching:
  • Gold/Red - Gold (38mm only?) MMF52LL
  • Light Pink/Midnight Blue - Rose Gold (38mm only?) MNP02LL
  • Yellow/Light Gray - Gold (38mm only?) MNP32LL
  • Space Orange/Anthracite - Rose Gold MNPM2LL
  • Gold/Royal Blue - Gold MMFQ2LL
  • Royal Blue - Rose Gold MMFP2LL
  • Toasted Coffee/Caramel (42mm only?) - Gold MNPP2LL

I know these take time and are a LOT of work, but I prefer the version @emiaj created, bc it’s complete with every band during each time frame. A current or up-to-date mapping does not show that and for collectors like me that like to know “what was” as well as “what is,” good job, but not quite there for me...

Agreed. The compact versions is so much cooler, however it is less useful as a document to collectors and future Watch historians than your original layout.

Thanks for the feedback, @PeterJH3. Not sure, what you mean, because you get the information "what was" as well as "what is" in the more compact version too, but I am totally fine with. That's why I mentioned the part you quoted from my original post.

PS: here’s how track my bands. I FINALLY have a 42mm Lavender on the way and I need to compare Midnight Blue that I just bought on eBay with model number MQ3T2AM/A with the current model number MLL02ZM/A on Apple’s website now. I do not think they are different hues, but I’m curious as to the reason the model numbers changed as well as when they changed...

It’s a visual thing for me, seeing all the blank spaces of what was released and knowing what is available now on a new row with each release.

This is a super cool system. I also use a spreadsheet but have mine spread out across tabs for each band type (e.g. Leather Loop, Sport, etc.).

@Brookzy and I started a Google spreadsheet couple of days ago merging our respective efforts to catalog all model numbers for bands (and Watch models including unique bands). I was hesitant adding the public to the sheet just yet (as it's still very early in development) and I do think we should open source it (at least one version in 'view only' mode) but given we're all essentially sharing the same objective (and more importantly... sounds like we're crazy as each other) I will shortly share with you both @choreographics and @PeterJH3

I really, really appreciate all your work and efforts to get a complete overview of all bands ever. However with 2 editions it becomes a bit confusing.

I therefore applaud this initiative to join forces :)

Not really. The Series 0 Edition is an general exception in the whole Apple Watch history, and more an add-on in this chart.

It was a bad idea from the beginning, and nobody cares about or could afford them. But—the new Edition is very popular like the Apple Watch Hermès. So I would rather delete the Series 0 before combining both. :)

Ah. Got it. You're talking about the two different layouts. Well, choose the one you prefer. Both are up-to-date now and have their own advantages and disadvantages. As long we're not working on a third one it's manageable. :)

Yes, you did. There's no band missing. Double-checked. :).

You need to ask yourself what's the difference between the generations of the Classic Buckle. There's an indicator which color was available in which generation (yes, not the best thing I have ever done), but I wanted to avoid to have the same band 4 times on the chart, what's the general idea of the second layout.

And speaking of "a lot of bands" might be a little confusing as well. :)

There're two more in the second row. What's your point?

Yes, there's e.g. no photo of Gen1 or Gen2 or Gen3 of the Classic Buckle in black. But tried to explain why it's not necessary in my opinion.
No problem, its your choice and we should be grateful for all your efforts. Yet I stick to the title of this thread, but hey I am a watch collector :)

I think we should all consider two versions going forward:

1) The “Original” version that @choreographics created and @emiaj updated - this is the COMPLETE version that collectors and tech historians can use as it lists every band in every relevant generation (for example it has all 4 gens of the Black Classic Buckle).

2) The “Compact” version created by @choreographics - this is a more fun looking, helpful summary of different colors and options by band type. Because it’s compact it’s not meant to be as visually definitive in detail (and huge) like the original.

At least that’s how I view the 2 versions now. Some people, like me, actively use the Original version to collect bands. Some people may want the Compact version to print for their wall as art.

This is great. I'm so glad we have this.

There are a few bands still shown for Fall 2017 that are no longer for sale:
  • Black Sport Band w/ Silver Stainless Steel Pin
  • Soft Pink Modern Buckle

Furthermore, these spring/summer bands are still on sale but I believe they'll be dropped once inventory is sold through:
  • Camellia Sport Band
  • Azure Sport Band
  • Mist Blue Sport Band
  • Pebble Sport Band
  • Berry Stripe Woven Nylon
  • Red Stripe Woven Nylon
  • Orange Stripe Woven Nylon
  • Pollen Stripe Woven Nylon
  • Tahoe Blue Stripe Woven Nylon
Hi there,

According to the app website,
The Black Sport Band w/ silver buckle is still available in XL;
The Soft Pink Modern Buckle appeared briefly in the US website after the Apple Event, however, it disappeared shortly after... In some other countries, it's still on sale.
[doublepost=1507654517][/doublepost]
This is a fantastic project. I was actually half way into it myself over the summer (attached) but I was scuppered by literally running out of space in the software I was using, so when new bands came out, I would have to start from scratch! :eek:

I was also wondering if you were interested in the key system that I used to designate hardware colours and sizes, because I saw a few posts up that you were wondering how to indicate that a specific band only came in one size.

View attachment 723186

I also know that you already indicate hardware colours but I attached PNGs of Apple's representations of the pins (and the size designation icons) in case you thought they were of any use to you compared with the solid colours used at present.

Once this season is done and dusted and we can be sure that the poster is complete (for now!) it would be great if you could post a high resolution PDF so that I can print it in large format and have it framed on my wall.
[doublepost=1507050103][/doublepost]
Good spot on the Sport Band and Modern Buckle.

Regarding sell-through, this is an issue because availability differs by region and by size. I assume for this project US availability is being considered.
Thank you so much! I'll make an update with the pins soon. :)
[doublepost=1507654589][/doublepost]
This piqued my interest and I've been spending the last few hours researching it!

Turns out that the same thing happened with a few other colours that have been available consistently, e.g. white and black. There doesn't seem to be a difference in the actual strap. I think it may be that the packaging changed. I remember straps destined for the US market had tabs added to the packaging for hanging on retail pegs starting in summer 2016, so this could be it.

The end of product code is a red herring, representing the region. ZM/A is for European and some other markets. AM/A is mainly for the American market. Again, the difference is only in the packaging (e.g. languages).
It appears that the model numbers are variable according to the market...
[doublepost=1507654719][/doublepost]
I love this concept. Though, two comments:

1) For completions sakes, we need pin icons for the Edition Gold and Edition Rose Gold bands also (in addition to the Aluminium Gold, Aluminium Rose Gold, Space Gray pins)

2) Increasingly I am thinking we need to - and I hate to say this - create separate columns for bands that came with a Watch (i.e. NOT sold separately). For example, the new Gray sport band comes with a black pin with a Watch and silver sold separately: even with the icons, how would someone looking at the chart be able to figure out which is which? The simplest way to do it would be - and again... I hate to say this - to have one additional column per band variation (e.g. Gray would have 2 columns; 1st columns would be sold separately version and the 2nd colum with black pin would denote that it was not sold separately).

[doublepost=1507165384][/doublepost]

I am looking forward to your findings about the MB! I too am attempting to collect ALL the Sport bands ever made. I *may* have a Lavendar band spare. I’ll let you know if I find it. It was the most difficult band to source in the last round. I am currently up to date except:

1) Gray/Black
2) Soft White/Ceramic White
3) Gray/Ceramic Gray
4) Nike Pure Platinum/Black
5) Midnight Blue/Rose Gold
6) Midnight Blue/Gold
7) Cocoa/Gold
8) Stone/Rose Gold

I just got the new Series 3 Pink Sand/Gold. Would you know if it’s different to the Series 2 Pink Sand/Gold? I’m going to assume it is different as the color of gold has changed in Series 3 to a more copper color. If no one knows, I guess only one way to find out...

I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never be able to find:

9) Red/Gold (China only)
10) Edition Black/Gold
11) Edition White/Gold
I think I should make an update to unify the pin color options to make it clearer... Stay tuned! :)
[doublepost=1507655006][/doublepost]
Guys! As mentioned I am very happy to see the chart is still alive and being updated for couples of times already. Great work, @emiaj!

I started to work on a slightly different version the last days—a more compact, maybe less confusing and a more poster-like. It's still a long way to go (need to adjust the bands, but my harddrive is a mess and I cant find every photo of the bands I had), but here some early shots.

You will be able to see, which bands are currently available, which not, all available pin colors if not silver are more prominent, as well Product(RED) and Edition will be. There's a date above, when the band was initially released and which base model number it has (some bands have different numbers in different countries, but the first few letters are unique—you mentioned the problem somewhere above)...

Not sure, it's "better", but I wanted to have something to print out (large scale) and not to see the same band five times on the chart.

What do you think? Any first thoughts?

Thank you for the amazing work! I think it looks really nice! Maybe we can work together to join the two versions that we have been working on, and create a new archive which includes two things:

1) A history chart of all the color/pin/style options that have been available since the launch of the original watch;
2) A more artistic version focusing on the design and current available bands.

What do you think? It's gonna be amazing if we can collaborate and work it out together. :)

Photoshop. But with linked (not embedded) objects, so I can edit the boxes separately.

This is not meant to be instead of the version @emiaj updated the last months. It more a different approach on the same topic, and depends on what you like to do with it, you might like the one or other better.

Not sure. Couldn't find any 42mm, so might be 38 mm only.

Wow! such an amazing collection!

Totally agree! It would be amazing if we could collaborate! What do you think? @choreographics
