I have a window behind my screen too. Not happy with that. Window is such that I can't open it without light streaming in.

I have had this desk on all 3 available walls. Guess I better try the South wall again.

Sorry kids, didn't mean to butt-in.

I like a windows behind mine, in most conditions it lets in a perfect amount of light, but I also leave it close a lot of the time. :)

I'm 17.. this is my pride and joy. I bought all my stuff myself via mass bargain hunting. This is all i'm looking to get for now.. an MBP is in the horizon.. just waiting for the montevina-based ones to come out.

I don't know if iMac would be a happy camper, with his foot on a woofer??

Your iMac may not, but your ears surely will. The woofer is directional, so it's best if kept in front and on the desk.

The woofer looks just as good as the speakers.. i'm in love with the blue glow emanating from the volume knob. This is probably the best choice available (in 2.1 setups). My friend who's also on MR bought a set for his MBP. He should be posting shortly.. they perfectly compliment Apple setups (the housings are matte black / gloss pearl white / golden cones).

They don't have much of a marketing push (little or none at all).. so don't be surprised if you never have heard of this make/model. HiVi is based in Guangdong (China), and they're well-known with DIY heads. Their higher end systems are also phenomenal (or so i've heard).

 Geez, so many kids here have these elite setups. As long as they bought it all themselves or did something amazing to get it...

I'm 17, don't have a picture because i just reformatted my computer, but my current laptop is a little over 2 years old now. I also work, but instead of spending it all and saved for a while, i get to have an amazing car. :)

What is the problem if they did not buy it themselves? So what if there parents bought it or helped them buy it, they are still great setups. Or even if it is the family setup, they are still great setups and I am sure that they wanted to share it with the MR community. Why are so many people complaining about how expensive setups are because a kid is under 18? I for one don't see a big deal with it, and although my setup isn't as amazing as some of the ones here, I don't post mine in this thread plain and simply to avoid criticism, because I did purchase everything with the exception of the iPod which replaced a 1st Gen nano, which I did purchase and developed battery problems. But anybody who does want to see my setup, the link is in my signature.

IMO, if the parent or someone else bought them like a desktop or a laptop, that's cool and i'm all for it, because every kid should have a decent computer. But it gets kinda sick when a kid has an iMac, macbook, all hooked up to a huge screen on the wall or some sort, and has an ipod touch, iphone, old ipod, and so on all in his / her own room. I flipped through the thread a bit and thats some of what i saw. That is what i meant in my first post.

Is there a problem if the kids parents can afford it? Is there? Good.

Sorry, my kids aren't going to get handed everything they want in life.

I know, and I agree to that. Let's set an example:

The Kid is a 14 year old that gets $10 a weeks worth of allowance.
· For his birthday he gets a base model MacBook.
· In a couple of months time he has enough money for buying a Wireless Apple keyboard.
· For christmas he gets a 19" External display
· After 2 more months he goes out and buys himself an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse.
· His 15th birthday arrives, what does he get? an 8GB iPhone. The Plan is paid half by him and half by the parents.

So by know he has a Macbook, a keyboard, a mouse, a display and an iPhone.

And the story goes on and on and on...

That's how kids get their gear nowadays.

$10 a week? That's a little high, but i guess if you do a lot around the house, then obviously it's fair. That is also if the kid spends LITTLE if none of the extra money, and puts it all to a computer / accessories. That still is fine, but what i posted, is with the kids that have all this new hardware that don't even need it.

But also with your post, an iPhone plan alone is above $60 a month. A kid with $10 a week obviously can't afford it, which is when his parents step in. Also, you have to add in for text messaging because if he/she is like any normal kid, they want to text.

If you're a kid you should be out at least spending a little on other things. Clothes, baseball game, food, movies? How are you going to pay your dates movie ticket if your caught up spending it all on computers. ;)

This is where we have to remind everybody that a night in with your computer doesn't count as a date, no matter if it's candle lit!

Damn you guys; I had a bloody Pentium 2 when I was 14...
I was rocking my 233MHz K6 at 14 :)

I'm a 14 year old, I get 6€ ($8) weekly allowance. If I cut the grass I get 5€($6.50) extra so thats 11€ ($14.50) total. Plus I get 19€ ($26) to spend on clothes, movies, haircuts, etc. So thats 30€ ($50) total a week. It sounds like a lot but it goes in a flash, that's how I learn to budget.

Thanks,

AMS

I had one piece of paper camp...and used my blood to write on it.

And I was damn happy to have it!

Just kidding, I'm still under 18!

And I had to walk fourteen miles barefoot in the snow to get to school, only to find it closed...

( :p )

gosh the complaining about what these kids setups are needs to stop, i mean i have paid for 95% of all of my stuff not just computer stuff. there is nothing wrong with getting a job and making money at a young age and then spending it on stuff u want, i started my first business at the age of 13 and made a total of $900 in one summer, it was just lawn mowing but i worked hard to earn that money. last year i started a web design company and i've already made over $2000 and i also work for my dad in which i get paid $10 an hour and over the corse of the last two years have made around $5000. i will be 15 in a just over a month and i think that it's awesome if someone is gonna go after what they want, even if that kid has his parents help him out a little.
