It's not quality, but quantity. :)

Is that the Inspiron 8200?

I used to have that same laptop and WiFi card. God how I hated that thing! The screen was tinted yellow and the battery lasted about 10 minutes. Plus it weighed as much as a baby walrus. I do not miss Dell. But I can't escape them, everyone I know uses them!

My Dell reminds me why I like Macs so much. I've got a Dimension 8300 sitting in my room at the moment which I've been working on (hard drive died) with a fresh install of Windows. Million and one updates to install (which takes forever) and noisier than a baby on an airplane...

Because, as we all know, making a single comparison between all Macs against one specific PC is completely un-biased.

The noise issue isn't to do with 'PCs' in general, although they are on average much louder than Macs (which are almost always silent).

The whole Updates thing is though. There must have been around x80 'Security Update for Windows XP' things to install. Took absolutely ages, plus SP2 seemed to have serious issues installing.

After all that, the damn thing is now chucking me out of specific programs (namely Cubase, half way through recording sessions) despite the fact I've tried removing all the drivers etc... and it has next to no software installed on it.

Wait a minute, you're installing a hideously outdated version of XP (non SP2) & then expecting there not to be loads of updates to install? I think you'll find that would be exactly the same as if you installed OS X 10.0 Cheetah on your Mac.

could i just ask what monitor and desk you have, i love the black silver and white look

It's a desk attachment for my Ikea TROMSÖ loft bed. Unfortunately, it can't be bought by itself. Oh, the monitor is a ViewSonic VX2025wm. It's easily the best monitor I've ever used aside from the high-end S-IPS panels.

Here and there!

I installed a brand-new copy of XP Pro (SP2C) on my MacBook Pro last week, and there were over 100 critical updates to install.
