Wait a minute, you're installing a hideously outdated version of XP (non SP2) & then expecting there not to be loads of updates to install? I think you'll find that would be exactly the same as if you installed OS X 10.0 Cheetah on your Mac.

No, I didn't find the same. There weren't that many updates when I installed 10.1 about a year ago, and there weren't that many updates when I re-installed 10.4.5 on my dad's MacBook a week ago.

However, when I re-installed XP SP2 on our family PC, there was a list of updates longer than my arm to install.

I don't make arguments based on no experience of facts/information. Next time you question someone's post, make sure you've got a solid reason to do so.

On a fresh SP2 XP Pro install, there is 91 recommended security updates, and 10 optional ones, which are .NET 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, IE7, WMP11, and some other stuff.

1.) 'There are' not 'there is'.

2.) Comparing raw 'number of updates' is not a good comparison. Microsoft usually releases security updates on an individual basis; when an exploit is discovered, they quickly release a fix for it. Apple tends to group these security updates together into one update that fixes multiple exploits at once.

For example, the most recent secuirty update for Leopard actually updates at least 12 different packages/libraries. In comparison, a typical security update for Windows often addresses a single source, such as KB823980 which specifically addresses a buffer overrun in RPC.

The Microsoft approach has the advantage that the update is released as soon as possible so your machine is at risk for less time. The Apple approach would seem to leave your machine vulnerable until Apple decide that they have enough fixes collected together to form an update. If you take another look at the Leopard update I linked above, I find it impossible to believe that all of these fixes were completed at exactly the same time & that they couldn't have released some of them earlier.

You obviously didn't read my post before replying to it.

Yes I did read your post and to say Window has a lot more updates than mac is totally Wrong. It has either the same or more certainly not less especially with intel mac there's a ton of updates for them.

Although Apple has to do hardware too. So that may make more updates but microsoft has tons of different brands to support as well so it kinda evens out.

Can all of you please stop the whole "updates" argument and continue it in PM so we can get back to the pics, thanks.

Where did you get that cup? Cupertino? How much did it cost?

My mom got one mailed to her at the end of the year for being a teacher and the Authorized Apple Purchaser at her school. Yeah, it's pretty much the most kick-awesome mug ever. It's glossy black, has the Apple logo, and says on the reverse, "I inspire for a living."

That isn't in the picture, so you know I'm not lying. I do have one. I'm keeping it forever.

Sorry, I'd post my setup, but the best part of it doesn't exist yet (Penryn Mac Pro). I'll tell you what I do have, though. Two 24" LCDs, 1920x1200 each; my G3 iBook, 800Mhz; my LC 575 that I'm not taking to college...; my iPhone that I WON; a 4GB first-gen nano; an orange shuffle, and my Apple ][ that I jhanked from school. WE STILL USE THEM. Now I play The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on it.

You move trees for a living?

Seriously, I don't know what the police are like in your area, but in Bristol, a friend got put away for dealing green. They're clamping down on it very hard atm...

I've always liked decorating stuff, but somehow, this doesn't come off as 'street' or 'cool'....it comes off as a 5-year-old's computer...

I've also heard you like dying your MacBook Pro other colours too? :p

Yes, yes. See, I would have made it orange using o-juice, but I already tested that on my brother's MacBook. Say, how does a lager-colored MBP look?

It's a bit clean, plain. People like looking @ stuff (like stickers) and that sorta stuff. get a pot plant maybe, give it a name and a story and you'll get some comments :p Maybe a Venus FlyTrap called Winston or something random:D

Here in Calgary, Canada its no biggy, the most the police can do is bascially take your stuff away and give you a ticket, but sometimes you get a cop that will just pocket it and compliment your stuff. lol green heals so i dont see why it should be a problem.:p
