Just pre-ordered the Fold 6 1TB in white and will be trading in my Fold 5. Galaxy Unpacked was a little disappointing and focused way too much on AI. I wish the Fold 6 offered more hardware updates but I look forward to the wider screen, slimmer body, and lighter weight.

Upgrading to Fold 6 was always the gameplan for me after my beloved Fold 4 went kaput (always have insurance for a foldable, expensive lesson learned). I bought a mint-condition Fold 5 for $800 on Swappa for temporary use and will receive $1200 in trade-in credit. After all discounts/promos and trade-in, the Fold 6 is $642 + plus tax (and I definitely added SamsungCare+ this time). Can't wait for July 24th!

I mostly wanted to see some camera improvements. Still wanting a slightly wider outer display. They don't need to reinvent the wheel with the ZF IMO. I'm leaning towards getting one at some point but do want to see what OnePlus does with the successor to the Open, and what Google has in store with the Fold 2.
I was expecting to see camera improvements, but we might get better algorithm with the new processor... resulting in improved computational photography.

And Fold 6 gotten a slightly larger cover screen, similar to how Fold 3 to 4 cover screen improved. And as I brought it up before in this thread... Samsung is leading the pack when it comes to software features. I recall seeing this one comment in a YT video.

To give an Analogy - Dating a drop dead beautiful chick/dude is literally skin deep (hardware) and in the long run means nothing if her/his personality and intelligence doesnt jive with yours (software). This is why I would still choose a Samsung fold over a OnePlus or Google fold.

I think I'm going with blue. Had the beige with the Fold 4, you pick up a case with it?

I had the beige on Fold 4 and Fold 5 too. Fold 6 stock colors are not very good this year. The Samsung exclusive patterned black is interesting and I almost went with that, but I like the contrast of the white back and black camera lens.

Added the slim clear case to my order since it was 50% off promo, but unfortunately it sold out by the time I went to checkout.

Since we have a few weeks before delivery I'm going to research other cases. Still debating if I just want a slim clear case or an S Pen case. I rarely use the S Pen on my current Fold 5 case, so that probably answers my question.

Only 1100? Have you tried doing the Rakuten deal?

I'm getting Promotional Discounts at $120, $40 for Educational Saving and $100 for Reserve Promotion... I'm waiting to see if I can login into the website and see what Rakuten offers.

Edit. Oh yeah, $1000 for Fold 4 trade in.
I checked Rakuten too. It was "up to 12%" but only guaranteed 3% on phones. I checked my credit cards and Venture X card has a solid 7% on Samsung phones at the moment so I went with that.

Absolutely agree with this. Software hampers the Google Pixel Fold and did not pique my interest at all since many apps don't scale properly on the bigger screen. The OnePlus Open canvas layout was really intriguing but I don't like how you're limited to two viewable apps at a time. I routinely have 3 apps open on my Fold 4/5 and much prefer the ability to see all three at once. I still think Samsung's OneUI is the best software implementation for foldables.

Yeah, not to mention service support.

As far I know, folks have to ship Google their Pixel Fold if something were to happen... same with OnePlus and wait several days to get the device returned. I had an issue awhile back with my Fold 2. I was able to drive to a Samsung store and get the issue resolved (same day).

In Canada you get one free year of Samsung care+ and in the States you get a free storage upgrade.
Stateside also gets a free year of regular Samsung Care+, but only if you select a carrier. Since I wanted the exclusive white color I had to select the unlocked version, which does not qualify for the free year of Samsung Care+ so I paid extra for the Samsung Care+ with Theft Protection at a discounted rate.

In terms of hardware... it has been as expected, nothing new. I'm quite disappointed with the cameras, it's been many years with the same hardware and no matter how much software they put in it, for the price it's quite fair.

It seems to have a slight wedge again when closed, not being completely flat.

Otherwise, the new boxier design suits it well and, when folded, the outer screen is better optimized than on other models. It seems that the fold is less noticeable.

The software and the new AI functionalities seem interesting to me.

In my case, I will wait to see the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, I think Samsung has made a very modest upgrade at the hardware level that does not justify the price increase.

My favourite upgrade over the Fold 5 is the weight. The Fold 6 is almost the same weight as the S24U.
Yeah, I’d never forget the time I unboxed my Fold 4 and compared the weight difference between the Fold 2… so I‘m prepared to get that same experience with the Fold 6.

And how has your Fold 5 held up?

It's still in great condition almost as if I never used it for almost a year. I use it most of the time without a case as well.

I wasn't too impressed with the fold 6. So I just pre-ordered a Flip 6 as an upgrade from a 5.
That's interesting. I don't see the point of the Flip series. It doesn't provide any real benefits over a slab phone and is an unnecessary complication. I'd much rather have an S24 Ultra than a Flip. The Fold, on the other hand, actually provides additional utility and multitasking that I can't get from a flagship slab phone.

*Just to be clear, I'm not passing judgment on your choice. I respect your decision and am not trying to justify my own choices. Simply carrying on a frank discussion of Samsung's foldable lineup, as I would with a buddy.

you need to read this

Yeah, I'm in agreement with everything that was mentioned in the article.

Eventually, I'd like to try out the competition, but when I look at all that Samsung packs into the Galaxy experience... it's tough to leave.

Although I’ve never been interested in the Flip series… I think the compact design when folded is appealing to users who buy it. Especially that satisfying sound when closing it.

But they don’t have to unfold it… can be used entirely on the outside screen for calls and messages. And when it comes to photo taking, Flex mode can be helpful for group photos and selfies.

Love the brighter GF6 screens and lighter weight.

Super let down by the size of said screens, no Qi2 charging, and an increase in price.

Oh yeah! I forgot about the brighter screen. I misread earlier rumors saying the front screen is 3mm wider, but that's for the inner screen. Can't believe the cover display is only 1mm wider.

I ended up canceling my Fold6 order, but the reason was I wanted to bundle it with some Buds Pro 3 for the promo discount. I'm still on the fence on the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Ring, but it seems I can get better discounts and trade-in on the Watch Ultra by ordering it separately anyways instead of bundling with the Fold6.

Interestingly, ordering through the Samsung Shop app netted extra savings compared to my first Fold6 order. Initially the website wasn't providing any Student discount but the app did and brought the overall Fold6 price down from $720 to $684 for the 1TB version. Then at checkout the app said "congratulations, an offer has been applied" and knocked another $42 off the price. Now that I think about it, the discount amounted to 7%, which could've been the Venture X card discount...but I thought that was supposed to show up on my statement 45 days later. So anyways, re-ordering the Fold6 through the Samsung Shop app saved me an additional $78, bringing the 1TB Fold6 down to $642 after all applicable discounts and trade-in, then add back tax.

the crease

Anyone that's owned a Fold knows the crease is practically a non-factor. I've had a Fold 4 and currently a Fold 5, going onto a Fold 6. The crease is there but literally blends into the background in use. I rarely ever come into contact with the crease or encounter a situation when the crease is bothersome. For instance, at 25% brightness in an office space I can't even see the crease while reading this post. I have to unnaturally tilt/angle the Fold5 to see the crease. If you have two apps open, one on each half of the display, then you'll never scroll down the middle where the crease is. In practical use the crease is a non-factor but gets way more attention than is warranted.

Would the phone be nicer without a crease? Sure. But of all the improvements I'd want (lighter, thinner, wider cover screen, better cameras, bigger battery, integrated S pen, full IP68, etc.), "no crease" would bring the least benefit.

Yeah that’s your opinion. My brief time owning the GF5 made me loathe the crease.

Fair enough. There's so much more meaningful benefits of a foldable beyond the crease but if that's all you're going to fixate on in your "brief time" then a foldable probably isn't for you.

I think a foldable is for me. I just personally need it to get the things most of us want. (Qi2, no crease, dust resistance.)
