Anyone that's owned a Fold knows the crease is practically a non-factor. I've had a Fold 4 and currently a Fold 5, going onto a Fold 6. The crease is there but literally blends into the background in use. I rarely ever come into contact with the crease or encounter a situation when the crease is bothersome. For instance, at 25% brightness in an office space I can't even see the crease while reading this post. I have to unnaturally tilt/angle the Fold5 to see the crease. If you have two apps open, one on each half of the display, then you'll never scroll down the middle where the crease is. In practical use the crease is a non-factor but gets way more attention than is warranted.

Would the phone be nicer without a crease? Sure. But of all the improvements I'd want (lighter, thinner, wider cover screen, better cameras, bigger battery, integrated S pen, full IP68, etc.), "no crease" would bring the least benefit.

I am so scared of putting my money against the crease

I skipped the 5 hoping 6 would be significantly better

I have never owned a Fold and so eager to try it

I have waited for the whole year and now I don’t even know if I should go ahead and buy

I understand your point but this is no small money to risk the buyers remorse

I am stuck

This morning I was able to look at them and try them out a bit (not much because the sales lady was walking around asking me questions).

The Fold feels very light, just as heavy as my iPhone 15 Pro Max, so when open it feels very light and thin. The folding of the screen is noticeably less visible than on previous Folds (the same applies to the Flip). On the Flip it gave me the feeling of having a fold very similar to the Motorola Razr 2024, which for me was one of the best in that sense.

The live design looks a bit different from the Fold 5, for my taste for the better. When folded, the Fold is more comfortable to hold, the hinge protrudes less from the chassis and it feels like a normal phone. However, it feels a bit thick.

The hinge feels quite solid.

Overall, in hand I liked them a lot, with the fold, hinge and more "boxy" design being relatively bigger changes than they might seem at first glance. For me, it's a shame they didn't improve the cameras from the Fold 6.

Fair enough. There's so much more meaningful benefits of a foldable beyond the crease but if that's all you're going to fixate on in your "brief time" then a foldable probably isn't for you.
These are most likely the same folks who criticized Apple for the notch and later came to realize it was a non-factor, same goes with the Dynamic Island.

If it doesn't have an Apple logo... it's judged differently.

Not sure where you are located at in regard to return policy... but it's best to give it a try.

Instead of relying on other people's opinion... form your own. Once it's in your hands... give it a week, and if you can't deal with the crease. Then at least, you found out for yourself.

That's interesting. I don't see the point of the Flip series. It doesn't provide any real benefits over a slab phone and is an unnecessary complication. I'd much rather have an S24 Ultra than a Flip. The Fold, on the other hand, actually provides additional utility and multitasking that I can't get from a flagship slab phone.

*Just to be clear, I'm not passing judgment on your choice. I respect your decision and am not trying to justify my own choices. Simply carrying on a frank discussion of Samsung's foldable lineup, as I would with a buddy.

I use the Flip 5 as my second phone. iP15 PM is my main phone. I previously had the Fold 2 and 3 as my main phone, and it was a good experience. Went from that to the S23U as my main phone, then it became my second phone when I upgraded my iP11 PM to the iP15 PM.

Carrying two giant phones became a little to much for me, so I gave up the S23U for the Flip 5. Didn't think I would like it much, but it proved to be a great experience.

I was tempted to go for the Fold 6, but it seems too similar to my previous Fold 2 and 3. When Samsung figures out how to integrate a S-Pen slot into the Fold, then I'll pick one up without hesitation. But right now, the Flip 6 seems like a worthy upgrade from the Flip 5, with a trade in. I don't have a Fold to make a trade in that's worth getting the Fold 6.

Where did you get to sample live demos of the phones? Do regular stores have demo units already?

I just came back from BestBuy and picked up a set of the Galaxy Ring size kit. It was $10, but came with a $10 gift card, so effectively 78 cents. If the dummy ring is comfortable then I may order a Galaxy Ring, but seems only color available at the moment is gold.

the crease

Same BS whining we've seen for years, spearheaded by MKBHD over "bezels for 7yrs until finally under 3mm bezels became a standard.

Crease, even by measure only of Samsung is minimal.

I've come to accept it - without owning the category yet, as a design function (double finger swipe to split screen to split apps) or like running a naughty finger down a woman's... u get what I mean cheeky lol

Honestly, seeing the hype from Oppo's Find N3 about how many folds the hinge could survive (some 10yrs + if open closed 10x q day or some garbage). I considered THAT innovation as hot garbage because it said NOTHING of the actual screen durability and longevity

Stronger , tinner and brighter pannels in Fold 6 woth IP48 ratings?!!! Yeah durability over fashionable bragging rights! Nobody is going to star an an open foldable screen more than a few times WHILE it is OFF!

The fact a user will be interacting with their content mote than any other foldable, durability is going to be wanted and tangible more important than visual queue of whiners!

I'm still trying to find the reason Samsung's newest foldable phones went up by $100 in price this year

- Upgraded to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
- Same battery size
- 1 slightly new camera
- Some minor display bumps
- Heavy AI focus on things not even processed on the device

Yes, it's El Corte Inglés, a well-known department store in Spain (it's a kind of Macy's in the US). At least in Madrid, I have entered several of these stores and in all of them they already had them on display (not the watches yet, but the headphones did).

I'm not happy about the price bump either but perhaps some of the cost went into the slimmer profile, redesigned hinge, improved IP rating, and new display layers and higher brightness in addition to what you mentioned above.

Only if it had the best camera in the market probably invest in this phone consider how expensive it is ...

Trade-in values are pretty good at the moment. Even if you don't have a Samsung phone to trade in, you can buy a used Fold4 for under $500 on the trusted Swappa site then turn around and get $1000 trade-in value instantly from Samsung. The Fold4 swap is even better than buying a used Fold5 for ~$750 and getting $1200 trade-in value.

I think it’s just due to the industry as a whole… Practically, everything is going up.

From streaming services to renting... I went to go and price out some hotels that seen the cost go up. I’m not really concerned with the price bump given Samsung provides some nice incentives to bring the retail cost down. Giving them 1k for my Fold 4… is enough for me to upgrade.

I was kind of worried they would had given me $800.

Only if it had the best camera in the market probably invest in this phone consider how expensive it is ...
Folks keep criticizing Samsung over this…. It’s not meant to have the best camera. It has two screens… one, of which can fold.

If it had the best camera… the price would be outrageous!

All fine points, @Ludatyk. I can relate to the hotel example. Things really have gone up everywhere, yet everyone seemingly can still afford to travel with all these hotel and flight increases. I thought people were struggling with inflation but demand for travel is still through the roof (and driving prices still higher).

I'm still content with the Fold4/Fold5 camera. I don't really find it lacking nor significantly worse than my wife's iPhone 15 Pro cameras. We still predominantly take family photos with my Fold5. For really special occasions, such as trips or graduation, I have my DSLR.

I still remember my coworkers were blown away with some photos I took with my Note8 compared to their iPhones at the time. I used the Note8 temporarily when my Fold4 died and the Note8 camera quality doesn't fare so well by today's standards. The Fold4/Fold5 cameras are by no means poor, just not flagship level and I can live with that.

If you’re in the US $1200 trade in is fantastic.

That I could justify but here in UK trade in is a joke

£550 for a fold 5 trade in
Yes but if you use the Samsung Shop app with code APPZ you will get an additional 10% off and you get a free Spen case worth UKP 89

As the savings are all applied before 20% vat is added the total saving is UKP 899.28 or ~$1159 off the full price on the base 256gb model, more on the larger storage ones.

So not quite as bad as they want you to use the app :)

Think I'm actually going to go for the Honor V3, it looks like it will just blow away the Fold 6 and other competition.

Still too narrow unfortunately and this time Samsung dropped the ball by not offering a free storage upgrade during the pre-order phase while increasing the price too.
Are you sure about that?

With my Fold 5 trade-in and all applicable discounts and promos, my 1TB Fold 6 comes to $642 + tax...and this is before factoring in either 7% CapitalOne VentureX Cashback or 12% Rakuten Cashback.

We unfortunately don’t have any credit card perks like cash backs and stuff like that on the other side of the pond. The only „perk“ we get is paying a fee for the credit card 😅
