EVGA announces a GTX 680 Mac Edition

Can you imagine there ever being an advantage to NOT having a copy of your original rom?

I got my GTX680 today from EVGA. When I run CUDA-Z it says "CUDA not found!", why is that? Is there any benefit for trying to enable it somehow, where does it affect?

5.1 Mac Pro, 10.8.3

Installed the latest CUDA drivers from Nvidia? That remedied that issue for me and my GTX670.
 
Could someone post screenshots of the CUDA-Z window showing the "Core" and "Memory" sections with an EVGA GTX 680 fitted, please? I'm interested in comparing the specs with my GTX 670.

I am about to take the leap and flash my EVGA GTX680 SC card with the Mac ROM. However, taking a look at the excellent manual from tomvos, and before I do I have a few questions:

1) It states I should make a "bootcd/floppy" folder in step 4, but it also mentions that I should copy the files into the "bootcd/CD" folder???

2) I only have an ATI5870 and my GTX680. Is it OK to run both with only one power cable in each?

3) What is a good way to get a backup of my original GTX680 ROM?

2) the cards wont work with 1 power cable, each card requires 2 cables to power on
3) Use GPU-Z in windows to save the bios.
 
If I can't power up with both cards in the MP, how can I follow tomvos's directions?

I used a dell T3500 h----sh mac pro, and successfully make my gtx 680 2gb flashed and put in my real mac pro at home. It's easier do it on pc. I did it with USB + free dos. Make a bootable usb drive, use the files provided in page 6 of this thread.

You will need both graphic cards working to be identified by nvflash. For example, I had gtx 285 and gtx 680 both present in my dell. So 4 6-pin cables are needed in my case.

If you use boot camp with windows follow this:

they have a guide on flashing the BIOS from windows (using a DOS prompt)
this is for a MSI card, but the procedure is the same, just replace the MSI stuff with the EVGA MAC BIOS.
This way you can just boot to windows with the EVGA card installed.


To flash the BIOS, download the latest version of nvflash

extract the nvflash files to C:\
save the BIOS file to C:\
open elevated cmd window (hit start button, type "cmd", right click cmd icon, run as administrator)
change directory to C:\ (type " cd C:\ " )
OPTIONAL: type " nvflash --protectoff " then hit enter (turns off any error msg that may result from software write protection)
BACKUP ORIGINAL BIOS: Type " nvflash -b backup.rom " and a copy of your bios will be saved to the nvflash directory
type " nvflash -4 -5 -6 680L_UnlockedBIOS.rom "
wait for it to finish
reboot

replace "680L_UnlockedBIOS.rom" with the file name of the EVGA Mac Bios that was posted

I have used your ROM to flash a MSI Gforce GTX680 2GB. I was a little scared because the size of the original ROM was 166 ko against 218 ko for your mac ROM. Fortunatly, it perfectly works, including boot screen and PCIe 2.0, as reported by GPU-Z! 3DMark Vantage report 31502 on graphic test, so everything looks excellent. Thanks again.....

Link speed of the flashed MSI Gforce GTX680 2GB is 5.0 GT/s. See another topic by Fouel...
 
Given that I'll flash the slightly overclocked EGVA GTX680 SC, I should be safe to overclock it again after flashing to the Mac ROM. In Windows there are plenty of tools from NVIDIA, but what about in OSX?
 
If GTX680 and another display card (i.e 5870) need totally 4 power connector, so how does it work to power on macpro, and do the flash in bootcamp????:confused:
