Thought I got through yesterday ok after increasing brightness. But didn’t feel well this morning. Another year with the Note 10+ but I will check out the new Samsungs and Pixels. Gotta return this unfortunately. We need to email bomb the iPhone designers. Who’s up to the task?

Have a question. I have not done the esim transfer to the 14 PM because I don’t know how to get my 11 activated if the phone doesn’t work for me. I’ve googled, checked the threads, etc. and cannot find a direct answer. All I can find is info and moving to the esim. I have Verizon but customer service is currently closed. I’ll call tomorrow but in the meantime, does anyone know the process if I activate the esim but then want to go back to my 11?

Didn't your get a new phone number if you didn't do the transfer?

Any chance you can just test the 14 PM without actually activating it. Just use it as an iPad essentially? Might save you the headache

Duuuude. Worst migraine ever. I’m like 95% sure this phone is going back despite how much I love it. I have like zero patience right now with my kids’ screaming. I’m irritable and snapping at my kids and sister… I can’t be like this for the next couple of years.

I was recording my daughter’s first soccer game so basically 100% brightness outdoors all morning but it can’t just be coincidence my head hurts this bad.
Oh goodness. I’m so sorry.

Yeah now my 18 year old daughter, who works and bought her first OLED phone, a 12 Pro two years ago, just got her 14 Pro yesterday. She has a headache today. We don’t know if it’s from the phone but she said it’s a weird headache not quite like her usual. I wanted to take a look at her settings but she had to charge it and I had to leave to take my mom back home. I got back and she’d gone to bed so I don’t know if she has Pro Motion on or off.

I hope my daughter is not going to have to surrender her 14 Pro. Her 12 Pro has taken a beating in high school and the camera is starting to act screwy.

She’s not normally a migraine sufferer. But many people who get pwm induced migraines aren’t.

When I originally got my iPhone SE (2022), for some reason, Verizon could not activate it using the eSIM, so I had to go into a Verizon store and get a physical SIM.

Today, when I got my iPhone 14, I transferred my phone number super easily by activating iPhone 14's eSIM.

When I decided to go back to iPhone SE, I assumed I could use iOS 16's easy eSIM transfer feature, but it did not work. I do not know if it was because of the original eSIM issue I had months ago or not.

Verizon's phone support was closed when I called (WTF?) so I had to use Verizon text chat (open only until 9 PM... again... WTF?). They could not get the eSIM to activate on my iPhone SE. They were able to get the previous physical SIM card to activate.

Long story short, I rarely have good luck with transferring my phone number to a different SIM. Just make sure you have a Google Voice account in case you need to call your provider. I would recommend making any SIM changes (phone number transfers) during regular business hours in case you need to go to a retail store as a last resort.

iPhone 11 supports esim too so I’m hoping I can just transfer the esim back. I’m going to try tomorrow.

I bought it outright unlocked so I have just been using it on wifi
Ah ok. My existing phone is an unlocked Note 10+ with AT&T and the 14 is with T mobile. I was given a new number when I activated the iPhone with T Mobile. Never transferred my existing number. So I'm gonna need to see the best way to proceed. I never expected the new number. No contract with either service.

When the 8+ and X came out at the same approx time, I was happy with the 8+ because I valued the greater surface area for viewing despite the X being 5.8". Videos worked so much better with the native aspect ratio of the 8 Plus.

When the XS series came out, I was still very content with my 8 Plus when I realized I got headaches from the OLED screens and had no interest in the XR. Same with the 11 series. I hated the regular 11 at first. Loathed it. Then, eventually, learned to like it and then love it. When the 12 series came out, I was fine with my 11. Last year, I just was in a weird place of indifference and while I did like the Pro Motion, I had no interest in the Mini, in the regular 13, the camera module felt too large for the Pro and the Pro Max killed my eyes.

This year, it hits different. I can clearly see the difference in photo quality in all aspects. The speakers are so loud and crisp and clear. The screen quality (PWM aside) is just impossible to deny. And then there is battery life and all the other improvements. This is the first time I now do have fallen out of love with my 11. If I didn't value the camera so much it might be different. For being an old man at 46, I have a little girl turning 1 next week. I take many photos of her, my teen, my dogs, etc. I don't use a dedicated camera because my phone is always on me, a camera would not be.

Long story still long, I wish I had not tried this 14 PM. I had hope. Foolishly, hope. But now, instead of going back to my 'trusty ol 11' and that feeling of 'home', I am sad I must go back to. That is a new feeling and not a pleasant one. Kinda feels like......PWM symptoms lol.

The multimedia experience is unparalleled as well. Try pulling up HDR content… the display and speakers continue to be better than the average home theater. The display quality is better than the average theater, in fact.

Since we’re discussing pluses the soundstage and clarity coming out of the speakers is quite impressive as well.

On the bright side, once there’s finally a flicker-free generation imagine how much better the display, speakers, and camera will be. On the other hand, that could be 5-10 years away for all that we could speculate.

There’s no way I would have expected iPhone to still not have a solution five years later after iPhone X thrashed my nervous system.

I feel your pain—physically and existentially.

But I want to suggest something that might help but so may not be your thing. Maybe set a reminder to go off daily at some random time, so they every single day you’re reminded at 1:42 that “you don’t hurt right now because you’re using this phone.”

Idk. I’m just thinking every year that I’ve bought one of these phones I’ve usually kept it too long to return and usually a few months later I would sell it on Swappa. I’d go back to an 11 and be sad. Then I’d start to like it and then love it. I really, really hope that happens for you.

Also, please try not to be sad for trying. It’s natural to be sad that it didn’t work out. But because you have a little girl at the start of her life, it’s good that you’re someone who still hopes and tries.

Share when you find out. I had Verizon issues when changing to an e-sim.

A thought: When I set up my 14PM, I did a device-to-device transfer and it asked if I wanted to transfer the e-sim. I said yes, and it did. Easy. Don’t know if that would work for you.

But I think on the website it asks if you want to transfer back to previous phone, so maybe it would be just checking a box?

Nah, that’d be too easy, right?

Settings - Cellular - Add eSim

Then put both iPhones side-by-side and select the transfer option.

Yeah I got that, too. The call center was down. The chat was down. And the problem was I had absolutely no service. Literally I typed that, and the chat said please CALL back during normal business hours. Wow.

Okay so I’m in bed in the dark reading the 14 Max Pro Display and it’s very comfortable. The letters are in clear focus. I’ve got the Night tint on, so it’s a bit yellow. I’m reading the forum in dark mode.

Where I have some weird sensations today is looking at the display in some rooms of my house lit by lights that gave their own pwm flicker. My kitchen isn’t a good environment for example.

When you all are noticing problems, take note of whether you’re being affected by other light sources.

I think it's safe to say the iPhone 14 Pro/Max are wright off's as far as PWM is concerned - All focus is now on the iPhone 14/Plus - We need more verification of the PWM - Question is, will the 14 Plus be any worse as seems to be the trend with the larger displays having lower PWM frequencies

Funny you should say that. I'm trying out the 14 pro this weekend and of course I have reduce motion enabled and things like that, but I found that I liked the screen so much better with true tone off. On my 11 and an SE and other devices I would always leave true tone on but it really doesn't look good in my opinion on the 14 pro. In fact it seems to make it look blurry it feels like my eyes strain a bit more.
True Tone was fine on my 8 plus so maybe it’s all the OLED displays which don’t suit True Tone.

I put up with it on X, 12 mini and 13 pro I was finding it so straining for my eyes on MacBook Pro 16 M1, huge difference switching it off.

I’ve noticed this too. With True Tone off text seems much clearer to me. Less blurry. I’m going to do some more testing, toggling it on and off more often for the next couple of days.

We need more people giving their experiences with the iPhone 14 - If the 1040hz PWM is to be believed it's the best option we have - The clear consensus is the iPhone 14 Pro/Max is still causing issues as the PWM Refresh is still too low - From what I've gathered from a couple of people so far is the 14 is just high enough to not cause major issues however we need a larger sample size - can't find any other PWM videos of the iPhone 14, so if anyone comes across them please, do post here
