Does Apple have the iPhone 14 Plus on display in the Apple Store? I was under the impression they don't show products they don't have on sale yet?

Bummer, but thanks for the reply. Here’s to hoping for positive reports from 14 non-pro owners.
As long as iPhones (or any devices for that matter) are using flickering displays I simply won’t be interested. I will instead be voting with my dollar and only purchasing LCD-equipped models.

But yes, here’s to hoping.

While its tempting to test, I'm not gonna even try the 14 Plus as there is no way it has better PWM/comfort than the rest of the range.

My Apple watch SS 0 is dead (swollen battery), I sold off my ipads years ago (stop using once I had a plus sized iphone and the old 12.9 ipad was heavy) and I don't personally own a Mac (use them at work). Had I been able to get a new iphone I would have bought a full suite of the latest Apple gear but here I am.

So I've got my eye on the Samsung M33.
NO PWM!
TFT display with 1080p resolution,
6.6" display with 100hz refresh,
128G storage with MicroSD support,
5000mAh battery.

And with discount I can own for mere £254!
Ticks alot of boxes. OK it's not flagship (in fact it's mid/bottom tier) and it only gets 2x OS updates (and it's android). I'd gladly pay top money for one of the flagship Samsung phones but they all have PWM.

I am concerned about security with Android OS but would only install legit apps from big named companies. But I do my banking, work email, medical etc on my phone.

I do like their watches being large and round likes traditional watch. Not sold on their tablets, especially being OLED. Mmmm......

Talk me off this ledge.

After sending the 14 pro back and probably being about to send the 14 back (it's much better but still not as comfortable as my 11) I tried the Samsung s22 Ultra. Lovely phone but I did notice eye strain with that too after using it all last night. I also don't want to lose my Apple Watch and my wife is on ios so we share calendars very easily. So I think I will send that one back too. At this rate I will be going back to my 11 for another year unless I try the Pixel 7 next. I don't think there's any point in trying the 14PM given that I can't get on with the 14 or 14 pro.

@john g. Thank you! This was great to read for two reasons:

1. I now know that I do not want a 14! :) The things you were raving about--and I absolutely get the whole is greater than the sum of its parts thing--are things I don't care about as much or haven't been issues for me, so that helps me feel like I'm not missing something that could work really well for me. I've been fighting a lot of temptation, and you really helped: thank you.

2. I love that you're enjoying it so much. Whenever people lament all the different choices Apple now gives us with iPhones--too many choices!--I think of these kinds of moments. If they just offered one, like they used to, you wouldn't have a phone so good for just you or I wouldn't or neither of us would because someone else would. So I hope the 14 continues to go well for you. Enjoy!
Thanks! It's not out of the question that this thing will still end up getting returned. But the fact is this is the longest I've ever spent time with an apple OLED phone. One thing I am exploring is that it seems like when I exclusively use the 14, things settle down pretty well. But when I go back-and-forth from that and an LCD phone my eyes feel strange. Doesn't happen really when I use computer [MBA M1].

I gave Samsung a shot back when the Note 20 was released. The S7 Tabs were also new around then as well and I got the 11" LCD version. I even got the basic watch (don't recall which one since they update so much). Some things about it were really nice. Having more freedom to set things up how I like was really nice, especially on the tablet. I liked the look of the watch more. I can see how people like Samsung's ecosystem for sure. I'm just so used to Apple's approach I found some things annoying. None of them alone would be a dealbreaker but all of them together really started to add up. Truth be told, the majority of my gripes come from me being set in my iOS ways more than anything else. Some of my gripes:

  • Duplicate apps (Samsung and Google) fighting with each other to be your default pick
  • Customization was great, until it glitched out and half my widgets wouldn't load
  • Apps I use for work gave me more problems on Android but that's a me thing. Most people wouldn't have that issue.
  • Animations weren't as fluid and consistent as iOS
  • Apps seemed to randomly crash more than I ever encountered on iOS. I suspect a memory leak issue but I never looked into the culprit. Felt like too much work, haha.
  • There was a delay just long enough to be annoying between messages coming into the phone vs the tablet and watch. They all came in staggered 30 seconds to a minute apart.
  • Getting the phone to communicate with my Windows 10 system was hit or miss. Granted this was still a pretty new feature at the time.
  • And, of course, no iMessage. Not a huge deal for me but could be for many.

After a few weeks with the Note, I went back to my XR, Apple Watch and 2017 iPad setup BUT I do still use the tablet. The LCD screen doesn't bother me at all and I really like the more open file system on the Android tablet platform for some things. Wouldn't trade my iPad for it, though and I don't see leaving my iPhone behind anytime soon. Even if that means getting an SE3 to stay on iOS. I'm just that set in my ways and I'm not afraid to admit it, ha!

Unfortunately, my iPhone 14 Pro Max won't arrive until Friday. Why are there actually people who tolerate the iPhone 14 Pro Max better than the iPhone 14 Pro? Don't they have the same frequency and the same display? I'm really confused. I hope that I can tolerate the iPhone 14 Pro Max well. But don't make any compromises either. With the slightest complaints, I send it back directly. I would of course like to keep it, since a Max has been my dream for years. I only have the iPhone 12 Pro because I couldn't stand the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I still have no problems with the iPhone 12 Pro. I wish I could finally switch.

It's so hard to say. Based on years past, the Pro Max screen does typically differ on the PWM rate used. Another reason why the notebookcheck results are a bit confusing showing both as 240. However, that would line up with us not capturing it well in slow motion video so maybe it is correct. If the rates are different, then that would make sense why some people are bothered more than others. I also think the larger display helps for some people as less focusing is required to see text on the screen. I hope the Pro Max works out for you!

Went to the Apple Store and did a side by side of the 14 Pro and 14 regular. Don't know what it is but those screens are not the same (yeah I know, they aren't). Color is different, and when you tilt them they react differently.
So annoying I can't figure out why one seems tolerable and the other gives me eye-aids.

What camera are you using to film this? What shutter speed?
120hz refresh ON with 14 Pro?
Would be helpful to have the same image showing in both phones.

Notebookcheck don't offer enough detailed info to the reader in how they perform the PWM test.
Hi jimmy_uk. I recorded the video with my ipad pro 2021 @240 fps, Promotion was acitvated on the IP 14 Pro.
Made another Video with the same background :)

Okay @jimmy_uk, to talk you off this ledge, I'm going to mention one thing only: your own words.

"I am concerned about security."

If you won't use a phone because it could hurt you physically--as you are wise to decide--do you really want to choose to use a phone that makes you feel unsafe in other ways?

Would you move to a nice flat in a sketchy neighborhood? Tell yourself I'll just buy extra locks and not go outside? Or only go out in light and be super vigilant?

Maybe you would, maybe you would be happy. And you can absolutely choose that later, but maybe right now you can just feel that frustration and disappointment that you feel because of Apple. What you're feeling is very real, so feel it. And later make a decision that can affect your safety.

I confirm that 14 was easier to my eye compared to 14 pro. With 14 pro I got instant pressure on my head. With 14 it was very tiny and not getting worse. This comes only with 30 minutes playing with them at a store. Also when i tried taking pictures regular 14 had crazy black bars on camera app and were minimal on the pro 🤷‍♂️

This makes it seem as if the 14 Pro doesn't flicker. It does. If you use a higher fps camera you can clearly see it.
yes of course ist flickers, but I think with a higher rate than the 13 mini.
I made this video because someone here in thread said that the iPhone14 pro has only a pwm rate of 240 Hz.
But that can’t be true.
The 13 mini has 520HZ according to notebookcheck. IP14Pro must be higher than this.
