Unfortunately, the iPhone 16 Pro wasn't as good and caused me problems.
I now have the iPhone 16 here, which works well for my usage. I have to say, though,
that I'm not someone who stares at the screen for hours. I have a maximum of one hour of screen time per day. Otherwise, I use it for Apple Car Play, Apple Pay, telephony, etc.

I have now sold my iPhone SE 2022 because I don't want an old iPhone anymore.
I love the new technology too much to want to go back. Wish me luck that I succeed in my endeavor.:)

No issues with the 16?

Thanks for all the great info with the 16 series.

Tried a 12 and 13 but had nausea after 5 min. Have a work galaxy a53 and as long as I only use it for a few minutes at a time I don’t get any symptoms.

Have been using the 11 and upgrading to a 16 base model today. Have a dentist appointment and have a headache anyway but give me a few days and I’ll report back. Will give this one the full 14 days as I normally would test for a few days and return the phones.
Only been a couple days but oled phones just make me nauseous. It’s mild but not worth having a headache all day.

Will return for a Pro to test and see if it agrees more.
If that doesn’t work then maybe I’ll grab an iPad Air M2 to use around the house and work.

Took the plunged and ordered the CMF 1 phone… should arrive on Monday. Really hope I can get back to normal. Looks like a goodbye to iOS if I have to
Please let us know how it goes, I tried the nothing phone 2a but it has been absolutely horrible; I had very strong vertigo in the first 10 seconds. The CMF should be more comfortable since it has DC dimming from 18% brightness up. Since it costs 239 euros I might try it too.

“Flicker Free” is a marketing term. Every OLED screen on every smartphone flickers. Some much worse than others.

To hit the “Flicker Free” label, a screen must flicker above a certain frequency. But it’s still flickering.
But granted — this phone would be interesting to try.

As The Too G mentioned way back, the Chinese phone manufacturers are really trying to get a hold of this display flickering problem — where for Samsung & A-Inc it’s just crickets. Not a peep.

Just curious to hear the group’s wisdom on this: What do you make of flicker changes between generations of phones? Do you think Apple is just accepting what the panel requires or what?

I gotta say, stuff like this makes me feel hopeless. I want NO flicker. Zero.

I have a brand new Dell monitor. 4k, 27 inches. IPS black display. Amazing color and quality. Love it. Brand new X1 Carbon Gen12. 100% RGB coverage. M1 MBA works well for me, and M2/M3 Air is fine as well so I have a solid upgrade path if M4 Air goes south. All zero PWM.

Phone options? SE 2022 or some, let’s just say it, crap Android phone. (Side note: Tried to buy a new iP11 and got scammed, so I’m nervous to second hand now.)

How did we get to this point?!?

Wanted to provide more context, on 15 pro max couldn’t use dark mode for Twitter or 120hz feature but can on 16.. just getting this weird tingling feeling in my nose and odd smell every time I pick it up.
Funny, I was scrolling through to see if anyone else had sinus symptoms. I have no doubt this is some secondary effect but the most noticeable symptom I have with my 16 pro is dryness in my nose, which feels connected to my eyes, though I have way less issue with actually viewing the phone. The 12 pro and 14 pro killed me. 13 pro seemed OK, though as with all PWM I have some strain whereas this never happens with an LCD.

I still am using an iPhone 11 but it’s on its last legs so was hoping the 16 pro might work. The 14 pro was so bad on my eyes they hurt days after, I guess from the dryness. My iPhone 11 gives me zero problems whatsoever; it’s really sad Apple can’t offer one new phone with LCD for sensitive users, of which there are clearly many.

16p…as in Plus? I wanted to try upgrading to this year’s Plus model for the larger (albeit strobing) screen and battery, but I’ve gotten very lucky with the plain 15. Decent battery overall and for some reason the most comfortable OLED iPhone display to my eyes that I can remember, so perhaps I should just save my money.

I’d also rather not have the Camera Control/Action Button…just more unnecessary crap to fiddle with and/or to get in the way.

I don't trust Xiaomi at all. The Xiaomi 14 was the worst phone I've ever had.
The iPhone 16 works very well for me. For me, it's the best OLED iPhone after the iPhone 12 Pro.
I have minimal symptoms after using it for a long time, but they also come from staring at a small display for a long time.
But these disappear as soon as I put the phone away within a very short time. If I don't use the phone much, I don't have any symptoms.
Since I'm someone who doesn't actively use the display on my iPhone much during the day, I don't have any symptoms most of the time.
But there are also symptoms that I sometimes have without a smartphone, because of my neck problems.

I'm happy with the iPhone 16 and will continue to use it.

Will try 16 if 15 pro doesn’t work out

The best monitors for your eyes are EIZO monitors.
I have been using them for years and have never had any problems.

This is weird.

I didn’t think I had this sensitivity at all, but my eyes have been watering badly when I first check my email and such in the morning. I’ve also noticed my eyes getting dryer while looking at my work computer (14” MBP), but I’m not sure if I blink enough.

Since I decided to give the Reduce White Point setting a go at 60% on my iPhone 16 PM, my eyes aren’t watering at all. I’m setting up an automation to reduce white point at sunset and return to normal display settings at sunrise for a bit to see if this solves my possible sensitivity.

Edited to reflect I meant the pro.

I would say if you want an iPhone you shouldn’t worry about anything but the screen. Why are you even considering upgrading from the 15, which apparently works for you, and which you can use for many years to come? Just forget about new phones for a bit.

I’m probably going to return my 16 pro. It gives me this weird sensation in my eyes and nose, which I guess is a different iteration of then drying out. Just different than what I experienced with other iPhones. What a nightmare…

These ‘odd’ side effects from using OLED phones are classic stress responses. A stress response can manifest anywhere- head throat, back, shooting pains. The strobing screen is pissing the nervous system off and it can react in apparently random and weird ways.
Normal (for a stress response).

Yea totally. I’m not reading too much into the exact manifestation. But at first I didn’t notice the same eye burning so thought it might not be an issue…
