The 16E is a Super Retina XRD Display and my iPad is an Ultra Retina XDR display and doesn't give me a headache. So I'll give this 16E a shot!! Nothing to lose!!!

They’ve been marketed as Super Retina XDR displays for a few generations. I have a theory this will be one of the most tolerable PWM rates, but that’s just blind speculation.

I’m curious if they’ll essentially reuse the brightness controller from iPhone 14, 15, or 16, or if the rates will be different. They probably did develop a new display for iPhone 16E as even iPhone SE at least had an updated color profile compared to iPhone 8.

Would be nice if the PWM rates are higher than the other 16s

I'd never heard of the G75 until you just mentioned it.

I appreciate its not a premium phone but it seems crazy cheap, whats the catch? (other than it not being an iphone)

....Update......
Done a bit of reading and youtube watching, it looks great. Only thing I see as a grey area is whether it supports google pay. I am so used to not carrying a wallet and money nowadays.
I haven’t found a catch yet, obviously I’d like a top of the range camera, but I can live with that given looking at the screen does not produce an adverse effect. I will cover myself by saying I haven’t been shopping to use it yet, however, it has let me enable ‘Use NFC’ and set up a default credit card for contactless payments.

It’s mid range and actually not bad at all. If we have no alternative for next year it could be a keeper for 2-3 years until someone should really bring a PWM free phone for the ultra sensitive like us. Specs are not bad at all…. I am curious if there is sth more powerful than this in the market (?)

Do you suffer eye strain and headaches using OLED displays, whether it be phones, tablets or computers?
Phones mainly but it's interesting. I have an iPad 11" that doesn't bother me but the 12.5 I got first did and had to send it back. Every phone I've tried bothered me but they didn't have the same OLED that the 16E does. I ordered a 65" Samsung TV with OLED and it killed me in 2 hours. Sent it back and got a 55", same TV just smaller and has never bothered me.

It is weird so I thought well at least this phone has the same screen and my iPad that doesn't bother me so let's give it a shot. Nothing to lose!!!

I can imagine the display being exactly the same as the iPhone 14 so another no go for me.
Sorry to hear that, it is frustrating.

Because it is rumored to be identical to the iPhone 14 screen is exactly why I am going to try the 16e. I couldn't get along with iPhone X or 12 or 13 or 15 or 16 but for some reason I've been using a 14 for a year and a half without any problem. So, even though my 14 is a great phone, I want to at least try out the 16e just because, better camera, chip, and a few other things. Will report back to the group.

Is your 11” iPad the latest generation with a super advanced OLED display?

Only the current generation 11” iPad has a cutting-edge display, as Apple used to reserve the Mini LED for the 12.9”. I have the last generation of 11” iPad Pro with an LCD display, I believe with the M2, that I’m 100% fine using.

Let’s just say Chinese seems to care more for our eyes. It’s just that in this topic some people had more success with BOE oleds. More tolerable not 100% fixed. Samsung the worst and LG in the middle.
So did any of the 16's have BOE screens?

I can now confirm that NFC does work, no issues paying with my G75 this morning.

I was using an iPhone 8 previously. Tried an X and didn’t get on with it, so didn’t try again until the 14 came out. That had to go back. Tried a refurbished 11 but it had iOS 16 already installed and it messed with my head. So stuck with my 8. That began to die so tried 16PM, 16 Pro and 16 all without success. Had to update my 8 to iOS 16 due to a banking app I used and it made it unusable for more than 30 seconds at a time. So some issues are definitely software related as well as hardware, as could use it without issue for hours prior to updating to iOS16.whatever.
The G75 is noticeably quicker than my iPhone 8 yes.

This was me. The regular 14 worked for some reason. I’m now on a 16 pro (LG screen) which also somehow works for me.

Good luck, and in the immortal words of Michael Scott, “may God guide you on your quest.”

The inconsistency and unpredictability of it all is maddening.

Besides updates to IOS altering things like temporal dithering or brightness modulation and causing eye strain, I discovered the other main source of eye strain is panel vendor. The only low eye strain panels seem to be made by Samsung (LCD not OLED), while each phone will have a panel lottery of LG, BOE, Sharp, and Samsung, so you might only have a 25% chance or so of even getting a bearable panel new in the box.

If you buy an actual Samsung phone with a weak SOC and Samsung PLS display, it will likely also still give you a headache unless you turn off 5g and force 4g LTE instead. Same thing with newer IPhones. Even if you turn cellular off or airplane mode on, I think these things constantly ping the cell tower all the time anyway. People have also found lower battery life having a SIM card installed even with airplane mode on.

Have you every tried to correspond with Apple about this issue? I had the same thing happened to me on older LCD iPhones and also the iPhone SE2 and SE3. Depending on the phone/iPad I can use up to late versions of iOS 15 and on some up to iOS 16.1.1. I wrote to their accessibility group last year and got a response that they would look into it but never really heard anything else.

There has to be someone at Apple who knows what changed. I've seem similar issues with Mac OS on other forums as well.

Is there a way to communicate with Apple?
