yes, other games haven't supported it either but still allow you to launch the game and lower the settings.

Yeah, I agree, it is annoying...I have a Mac Pro and it won't run at all with the 512MB video card (the original Nvidia 120 card).

Fortunately, I am able to stick in a Nvidia 660 in the other PC slots, and was able to get it to run (after upgrading to 10.9.2).

It has to do with the OpenGL version the GPU can support, than the amount of VRAM. GT 330M can support only OpenGL v3.3, while the game probably needs v4.1, as it can only run on 10.9.2 and above.

Thanks for this explanation. It was puzzling me why the HD4000 was supported and not the 330M, which is a much better card.

If you have a Bootcamp partition, you should be able to run it in Windoze. At least, that is what the PC requirements would lead me to believe.

Have anybody tried playing this online? I entered Multiplayer today and it was like visiting a ghost town. Supposedly the servers for OS X and Windows are the same.

It's probably mostly played by Europeans during their evenings, at least that's how it was with f1 2010 when I played that back in the day.

Can someone explain the multi-player sound thing to me? I've not really played MP in racing games before, and I'm confused by the speaker symbol against names, the fact that my name appears on the bottom right of the screen with a 'sound' symbol, and why do I hear sounds from other people's microphones during the race?

I haven't tried multiplayer on 2013 yet, but I think it means your mic is 'open' so they can probably hear you cursing when you pile into a crash-barrier.

There is an option to mute this, and you can also mute the other players.

LOL, that's exactly what I was afraid of.

Where is that option? I've looking around but unsuccessfully.

By the way, do you people know any Mac-compatible, decent-priced, F1-like steer wheel? I found a replica of the Ferrari steer wheel, with some useful controls, lots of fake buttons and stuff, but it was like $700, lol.

Oh, and just for reference – someone else might find this useful – the game runs pretty smooth on a 2009 iMac (ATI HD 4850). I have it running at 1080 with AA on high. I was hoping I could make it run at 2560x1440, but it's not that bad considering how old the computer and the graphic card are.

The game is great! Selected Toro Rosso and am playing on the second hardest difficulty and after a P8 finish in Australia and a P6 in Malaysia, I'm 5th in points!

Would you guys be interested in me putting my career races up on YouTube? Hmm...I have wanted to do that for a while. Might do whatever other games I'm interested in on OS X.

I think there is something wrong with multiplayer. I can't see the audio options either, and I permanently get sound from others mics, which almost always end up in (audio) feedback from my speakers.
Also, at times, the whole thing just doesn't work. Cars disappear, and then re-appear in front of you creating a collision.
Come back, Edwin. All is forgiven!

I was thinking that we, as MR community, could organize a nice multiplayer game for one of these days. ;-)

Suggestions on a steer wheel for this game?

But are they supposed to be there?

How many fps do you have? I get 37 fps in average on my 2012 rMBP at 1440x900 and Ultra settings.

Wow, that's crazy good.

UL: avg 67, min 42
L: avg 28, min 13
M: avg 17, min 12

That with gfxCardStatus on discrete only.

Same GPU, although yours is clocked higher and is more inline with a 660m - but that should not account for the difference.

Why do you say that?

New consoles just came out, Codemasters will target those platforms.

Even now, the F1 game uses an older version of their racing engine. GRID 2 looks much better.

If you have a bootcamp partition, try that game out on your iMac - the 680mx will run it great.

You should be safe for a long time with that chip, considering the the ps4 basically only has a RADEON 7870 in it, which is 20-30% slower than your 680mx.

I get 39fps ave @ 2560x1440 2xAA on ULTRA (highest) setting on my 2011 27" iMac 16Gb RAM and 6970M 1Gb GPU.

I use the Logitech G27 - a quality pice of kit, and works great on OS X when you install the Logitech ForceFeedback kext.

Someone above mentioned that there are options, and yes, I think there should be. As I mentioned above, I often get screeching audio feedback through my speakers, and hear weird noises from just one or two players.
It is really frustrating that there are no proper instructions on mull-player in any of the F1 series games.

Don't see why that should affect PC or Mac versions. They'll still be produced.

Don't do bootcamp, unless an absolute emergency! It's a 6970 1Gb I've got.

I used to have the G27 before I sold it. It was great but a pain in the rear to always have sitting on my desk. The game got boring for me the second the new driver lineups are announced. I can't play a game with Massa on Ferarri :p

Edit: Just found a custom mod for 2014. I may play it tonight for the first time since Brazil 2013!

I kinda like the G27 (though is far from having a F1 look and feel). However, I wonder if isn't too much trouble to attach the thing to the desktop every time I want to play. Is there a more simple system?

Oh, and another totally noob question. Do all these devices work through USB? Is there something that works via Bluetooth? Do all these devices need to be connected to AC or will the USB be enough?

It takes me about 5 seconds to pick the wheel up from under the desk and secure it. You just push it on, and turn 2 knobs. Takes a lot less time than the game takes to load!

Of course they will, who said they wouldn't?

I was referring to the anticipated improvement to visual fidelity that a new engine brings.

I have a problem with my MBP or you have a magical 6970 if you are getting those numbers. Your video chip is only a wee bit faster than mine.

Sounds like you might have a problem. It can't just be down to GPU. I have a 3.4GHz i7 with 16Gb RAM, what is your MBP? Partly down to graphic drivers. Some nvidia cards have issues.
I have excellent performance @ 2560x1440 with all games.

I am pleased to say you are right. I uninstalled gfxCardStatus and now I am getting much higher frame rates. Perhaps this app was somehow using the Intel HD even when I had it set to force the 650m.

That's about what I would expect; about 20% less that Windows benchmarks on same hardware.

So 1440*900 at High it is! That saves me having to boot into Windows - something I also like to avoid. Thanks!
