No but the recommended settings for the 900 degree wheels assume you have installed Free The Wheel, however if 900 degree mode is enabled the Force Feedback will be disabled due to the Logitech drivers not supporting 900 degree mode on the Mac.

So, should I modify those adjustments if I'm not using Free the Wheel? Will they be the same? I know that I can't use it together with the FF kext, so I've been trying to use the lastest over FTW.

The wheel will provide force feedback when driving :)

Yes, but supposing I hadn't installed the FF kext, would I receive any form of feedback after activating the right option within the game? The thing is that, as I said before, I tried to install the FF kext, but at the end there was supposed to be a file in the library\extensions path, which wasn't there. Despite that, I enabled the feedback option within the game and it works. So I don't know what's going on.

Personal opinion, but, driving simulators without FF is a total non-starter.

As an aside, why would anyone want to use 900 degrees in a F1 simulator? Beyond me.

Could you please share your preferences on the wheel and feedback adjustments? I don't know if I haven't found the right spot in the settings yet, if I need to keep practicing or if I just suck and I should've never bought a steering wheel.

It's system/library/extensions you want to look at.

FWIW, my settings are:
Advanced (in order) 20, 0, 5, 0, 0, 20, 25
Feedback 50, 100, 50.
But, it's totally down to what works for you. Experiment a little.

Exactly where I looked at.

See, the folder doesn't contain the FF kext, but I insist, when I enable it from the in-game options it works (that's why I wonder if there is a noticeable difference installing the Logitech FF kext).

Ok, I'll give it a try, though from what I remember those Feedback settings are the standard.

And yes, I know, I've been experimenting more than a little, but I'm still far from reaching the decent level that I had using the keyboard. Not that I was Senna, but still I was able to perfectly control the car. Now even that's difficult.

You're looking in the wrong Library folder. One down from the Library folder in you screenshot is the System folder, inside that folder is another Library folder with another Extensions folder. Check there.

I already told you, it's system/library/extensions you need to look at. You are looking at library/extensions.

My bad. It's there.

On a side note, has anybody had problems with the calibration of the wheel? I've noticed that sometimes the wheel looks centered in the game (let's say in the cockpit), but the G27 is actually turned a little bit to the left, so when I center the steering wheel so the car goes straight, the car goes to the right.

So far the only solution has been disconnecting the wheel and restarting the game, but that's not a definitive solution. The last time I played I had to restart the game and disconnect the wheel about three times in order to get it straight again.

My Formula Force EX will end up pointing slightly left if you leave it untouched at boot up.

I found the best thing is to re-centre it each time it moves and the setting then normally sticks and survives sleep mode - you just have to remember to do it again on a reboot.

You have to plug in your wheel before you start any game, and unplug when you end it.
Essentially, you have to re calibrate the wheel by unplugging/plugging it every time you restart a racing game.

PC rain gameplay:

https://forums.macrumors.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=19271708

Pay close attention to the environment reflecting off the wet tarmac and the blur effect on the rainy fog in the distance.

Is it just me or does the PC version look far superior to the Mac version. I've played time-trial in the rain and I never got these effects. The tarmac looked much worse.

I find it puzzling as to why no-one has mentioned how the Mac version looks inferior to the PC version.

Or maybe I'm just seeing things? Are they identical? Maybe this is down to OpenGL vs DX11?

The link you posted is a link to creating a new reply! There are a few minor ShaderModel 5 effects missing (as Apple OpenGL doesn't support those features yet) but the effects on the same settings should look identical bar a few of these highest option settings. Even then the difference should be fairly minor. You can send the links to the images to our support and we can have a look.

In summary although their are a few minor differences on high settings they weren't very obvious and I would think most people won't even be able to to notice. I suspect it's more likely you are looking at different settings settings on the Mac and PC.

My apologies. Here's the proper link.

Anyways, earlier today I realised that the game DOES in fact sport the effects I said were missing. I was comparing a solo race in light rain to a full on race in heavy rain - as seen in the video. The blur comes from the spray from the other cars. The gorgeous reflections on the concrete are probably only visible under heavy showers. My mistake :)

The minor differences you mentioned are very hard for me to spot. I have a fully decked out iMac with the 780M and the game looks just like in the video in similar conditions. And it runs super smooth too. A wonderful machine and a wonderful game.

Yes, the game on Steam has regular drop in games (Mac and PC compatible) and even team competitions organised by Codemasters and Racenet.

Thanks eddeduck,

Just got done doing some racing on line, I have to say it was a good experience.

Love the game but I get pretty severe stuttering after a few laps. It makes the game unplayable. According to what I've read on the internet it has to do with the replay file and the game constantly writing to it. I don't use flashbacks or anything like that. Is there any harm in setting it to read-only or is there some other remedy to the issue?

I also couldn't find the replay file for the life of me. Is it hidden somewhere or am I just not looking hard enough? It's in Library>Steam>SteamApps>common>F12013 right?

I don't know but I can't see read only ending well. It's also used for lap records etc in RaceNet. We haven't had any reports of stuttering at Feral support so it's possible the problem is just something with your Mac setup that can be fixed/avoided.

Have you contacted support?

Have not contacted support however a quick search on the web seems to show that it appears to be a pretty common issue in the Grid/Dirt/F1 series with the live replays and "flashbacks".

I'm not sure what about my Mac setup would cause it except maybe an odd issue with constantly writing to the SSD? It's a Samsung 830. The ram is G.Skill and seems to be excellent in every other application.

It only happens after about 3 or 4 laps. The stuttering starts instantly and is rhythmic, occurring about once a second at that point at equal intervals. It's not related to framerate (it's definitely not throttling while playing).

I'm not really sure what else there is to try at this point. I've reinstalled the game and messed with the settings a ton. Lowest settings and v-sync on produces the exact same results as high settings does. 3 or 4 laps then massive stuttering.

We haven't had any major reports on the Mac (the PC has had a number of reports on certain machines). I'd contact support so we can have a look at your spec in a little detail.
