Hilarious that you guys lie that it works all the time

I had the X for the full 14 days. Face ID is horrible. No way as good as touch

Within the 14 days I bet ya every day I entered my code at least 5 times a day.
Even had a co worker show me her X yesterday. Guess what happened when she showed me - yup it did not unlock for her. That’s her number one complaint and the phone is too small.

Let me get this straight, Face ID does not work for you. Therefore everyone else's experience is invalid?

FaceID works about 93-95% of the time for me, I love the technology.

Nope. The problem is you- or bad hardware. Mine's batting better than .900.

I think MKBHD said it best. If Touch ID worked 99% of the time, Face ID worked 95-96% of the time. It can be a minor annoyance, but it's about once or twice a day. I think I unlock my phone at least 50-60x/day

I wouldn’t call Face ID crap but it does seem to fail a lot for me. It’s kind of annoying having to hold it at just the right angle or it fails. I’m considering disabling it but I like it for the banking apps. They need to make major improvements to it.

If I was experiencing anything like what you two are saying I would have returned my phone a long time ago. One failure every day, let alone two, would be enough to send me running back to TouchID.

Interesting. I've owned my iPhone X since November 4th and haven't had an issue with Face ID. I bought an iPhone X for my fiance 2 weeks ago and she hasn't had an issue with it either.

I think the only time it doesn't work for me is when I just wake up and I try to check my phone with half my face still on the pillow.

this is really the only time it fails for me, other than me trying to unlock it with my hand obscuring my face occasionally :p

Really? 2 times MAX in a day? When the correction takes less than 2 seconds? I highly doubt you would go back to your old phone

I find it shocking how Face ID works almost flawlessly for some in so many different scenarios and yet Face ID is a complete failure for others where it will not unlock or they have to resort putting the passcode in.

There are many different variables I would consider before I label Face ID a failure, where Face ID needs to be trained and it should work more thoroughly when you input your passcode. Also, attention awareness is something sometimes they can be problematic, which can be disabled.
I'm not talking about anybody in particular with this comment, but I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with errors in the setup process. I watched quite a few videos early on of people setting up their FaceID and it was clear they had no idea what they were supposed to be doing. Rather than showing all angles of their face with a smooth circular motion, they were tilting to extremes, doing random parts of the circle out of order, etc. FaceID doesn't need to see the top of your head or under your chin.

I never used a passcode on my phones until TouchID came along. So yes, if I was having to enter my passcode multiple times every day, I would consider that sub-par tech and go back to something that isn't, i.e. TouchID.

I've never had to use my passcode on my iPhone X either. You misinterpreted what I wrote. Not once have I said I had to type in my passcode, you made that assumption all on your own

What I quoted you saying implied you were having more failures than you did with TouchID which is what I was referring to. So yes, I assumed when you talked about FaceID failing you were putting in your passcode. My mistake.

I have found Face ID better than Touch ID in every possible way. It's faster, more convenient, more reliable, more secure, and utterly magical.

I feel sorry for anyone still stuck using Touch ID on their iPhone.

No need to feel sorry for me. Other than a wet finger, TouchID works 100 percent of the times for me. Claiming FaceID is faster, more reliable, more convenient and more secure is nonsense.

For me it’s like when Apple added pressure sensitive touch. I never use it because it’s useless, but it created a problem where when you uninstall an app
Boy do I agree. I don't understand why apple just does not add the delete function to any 3D touch on their APP? Meaning, 3D touch on any apple icon, say MAIL, and you get the option to delete which activates the wiggle. I believe developers would need to add this option on their own.

my FaceID works perfect 99% of the time... the issue is you.

Of course the issue is the OP. Because god forbid an apple solution is not utterly fantastic and magical ;)

All joking aside, I love what FaceID can bring to the iPhone, and I really do look forward to using it in 2018. Until then, TouchID works just as well.

No worries. If Face ID didn't work for me, I would lock the phone and it would quickly work after that. It would basically waste 2 seconds of my life to do this as opposed to waiting until I had to put my long passcode in. Again, I would only have to do this once or twice. I didn't even have to do this over the last couple of days either

It's not nonsense though, the only thing on that list that is nonsense is that Face ID is faster that one is obviously not true. Reliable seems to be dependent on the person but Face ID for me is at least AS RELIABLE as Touch ID. It is more convenient and more secure though there isn't really a good way to argue against those.

Thank you so very much for feeling sorry for me having Touch ID. However, you don’t have to feel sorry for me because I’m the one who actually wanted touch ID. Interesting that people say these things when you don’t know the person with touch ID that wants it or not. Then there’s that word magical. Nothing magic about it.

Some people as sipping the "magical" koolaid a little too much here :D

Inside the house ,it has been perfect. It even opens when I look at it on the wireless charger. Everyday I go for a couple of long walks (keeps the ticker going) I wear an Angel's Baseball hat and sunglasses. I use the phone constantly for internet radio or pod casts. The first day I went out, wearing hat and glasses, it asked for passcode... the next day,it unlocked fine. It learned my pattern of Hat / no hat. Next i'll test beard / shaved. Before I got my iPhone X I was torn between it and the 8plus. I was a huge skeptic, and a touch ID fanboy. The phone has totally won me over! Face ID is blazing fast and convenient.

Since it is indeed faster and more convenient for many of us (gloves, anyone?) your statement might be nonsense, in certain contexts.

Your experience with FaceID does not trump mine with TouchID. And Gloves? Wow so I need to remove my glove to unlock my phone. I can place my glove right back on my hand and continue to use it. Claiming FaceID is faster is nonsense. Either can and will be faster in specific situations.

People seem to forget how fast and reliable TouchID is for the majority of users who continue to use it. Again, claiming FaceID is more convenient and more secure than TouchID is nonsense. Equal would be a better description in many situations.

Maybe the whole comparison should be done against TouchID gen 1 since this is also the first generation of faceID.

I think FaceID, currently, is almost equally convenient as touchID but when the hardware and software mature through 1 or 2 more itterations (like touchID), the potential of FaceID is far greater than touchID.

Touch ID has been on iPhones for nearly 5 years, and has been vastly improved from its first implementation.

Face ID has been on iPhones about a month...

Give Face ID the time you have given Touch ID and I’m sure there will be vast improvements.

Face ID has worked great for me. I was prepared to have issues, from some of what I had read online, however it has worked close to 100 percent of the time. Now that I’ve been using it I prefer it to Touch ID.

Totally agree. FaceID can only get better. I currently believe that both solutions at the moment are equal. And that is saying a lot for FaceID in its Gen 1 form.

I also have to say I had a beard, I shaved it off and it didn't recognise me... I had to reset Face ID.

This is one of the things I asked when it was launched lol. I have a beard myself and if I shave have I got to reset the bloody thing? That sounds tedious and a legitimate drawback of the technology. Maybe it’ll improve.

Love the thread title btw. Blunt and straight to the point! :)
