Just be aware that Apple Senior Support has advised that this, particular, hotfix could take until true end-of-week (Sunday US Time) to deploy. Today would be great, but it may push into the weekend.

interesting never have seen macOS updates on a weekend 🧐 i would say today or monday

Update to this: it didn't work. I did some research and found out that the issue is related to the firmware.
The solution is to put the MacBook (with issue) into DFU mode and restore it from another working Mac using Apple Configurator, an application available in the Mac App Store.
Update to this: I didn't do the DFU and renew firmware method. Instead, I simply turned off Find My for my Mac, as suggested by many people above, and started the updated, which I had already downloaded from the Mac AppStore. And IT FINALLYYY WORKED!!!
Thank you all for the updates guys!

Can confirmed disabling "Find my Mac" fixed the problem. I also disabled enhanced data protection for good measure.
Ditto. "Find my Mac" caused some issues in the past, different symptoms so it did not ring a bell. Will need to add it to my list of things to try (Reboot Mac, Clear Cache's, ensure adequate free space, and disable "Find my Mac".

I’m not sure if Apple fixed this or not but my M3 that could not be updated last week just updated to MacOS 15 fine. Here’s the one difference. I was updating from home last week. I am on vacation now and just tried again and it went perfectly. Maybe different internet??? No clue but worked now.

I hope this discussed patch fixes things. I have had this issue since I restored my Time Machine onto my new MBP. It is currently on 14.4. At the time, after talking to Apple Support, I decided to wait it out until Sequoia, as I didn't feel like doing the reboot into recovery and reinstall over current install from there. I may yet end up doing that, and hope it works.

I've successfully updated to iOS 14.7 and now 15.0 is being downloaded, after encountering initial issues. It seems Apple has resolved the problem. I recommend attempting the update through Software Update.

Same here. I was able to update to macOS 14.7 and then 15.0 afterward successfully.

I had this issue today with macOS 15.1 Beta 7, I've never ran into this ever until today. I seen another post elsewhere before I seen this and what worked for me was opening the Mac App Store, in the menu bar > Store > Sign out, and then back to system settings and trying again and it worked for me.

I had seen posts were people where putting their Mac into DFU mode and using configurator to get around the error which puzzled me when everything else worked so for anyone else that runs into this they can now try the method above or the Mac App Store method.

I am using the same OS on an M1Pro 16. Tried it here, but no luck. Thanks for the tip.

Full disclosure I have an M1 Max 16 inch. I actually don't know if this helped but I went into Disk Utility and ran first aid on the volume for Macintosh HD then on Macintosh HD - Data, while it did find some issues on the HD - Data the exit code was 0 and it performed deferred repairs. Software update provided the same error afterwards.

Next I tried this in the command line:

sudo softwareupdate -i -a -R

But that didn't "appear" to do anything as I still had the issue with Software Update.

Next I went to the Mac App Store and signed out and went back to software update and that worked. Maybe there's a chance one or both of the things I didn't mention contributed to that solving my issue.

If Not then maybe call Apple as that's literally all the troubleshooting I did.

Hoping for the best!

Yeah can't get this to even download at all. Mac store signed out or signed in. Find My Mac turned off.

Pretty awful this is still an issue.

Those who got it to work after doing something, likely it was just luck. Raising your arms and spinning around three times might seem to work too.

So even if you read about some "fix" it is likely the fix did nothing and it was pure luck.

Had this with macOS 15 beta 6; turned out that disabling the "Find My Mac" iCloud option enabled me to upgrade (this option has caused issues in the past). After upgrading, I re-enabled it and all has been fine since.

I see some think this is luck when some people find a resolution but I think the issue we all are encountering can have multiple root causes I think from everything I've read here and elsewhere.

It's kind of making me recall an issue I ran into back in July on the earlier Mac Beta's where there was an issue with Chrome (I barely use) and the beta and I had to go into FaceTime and disable Calls from iPhone I believe.

That was so random for that feature to interfere with Chrome but it worked.

Some of these bugs has fixes that don't seem to be related in the slightest.

I can't even disable Find My Mac on Beta 6. It gives me an option to Open Energy Saver (which just "bleeps" when I select it) and to cancel...Sloppy Apple, sloppy.

No luck with any workarounds. One thing I won't do is a full restore reformat. I'll just stay on this OS version forever if I have to until apple releases a proper fix.

I filed a Feedback report describing the bug. You should do the same. After all, this is what betas are for. 😉
