Someone spotted this funny fact. Both Mac Pro 4,1 and Mac Pro 3,1 are NOT supported for High Sierra. There is no way to install 10.13.6 on these Mac natively and run this version's web driver.
View attachment 829561
TBH, I believe that they are just too lazy to check and update the info. I don't think they intentionally support those Mac that run patched macOS.

Did you see the latest release sort of addressed this? Guess the Mac Pro 5,1 (2012) model is now unsupported? ;)

From: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/145832/en-us

New in Release 387.10.10.10.40.124:

IMPORTANT: This graphics driver update contains a security improvement in the NVIDIA Driver Manager preference panel via a new Developers Tab.

If you have the previously recalled 387.10.10.15.15.108 Web Driver installed, it is necessary that you uninstall that driver completely and replace it with this. See the Additional Information section for more details.

Release Notes Archive:
This driver update is for Mac Pro 5,1 (2010) users.

BETA support is for iMac 14,2 / 14,3 (2013), iMac 13,1 / 13,2 (2012) and MacBook Pro 11,3 (2013), MacBook Pro 10,1 (2012), and MacBook Pro 9,1 (2012) users.

This is why I quite like Nvidia, at least I can see that they are willing to spend time on fixing error :D

Confirmed! Running10.13.6 build 17G6030 with Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.124 On my patched, 3,1 and GTX 1070. Been flawless, so far in xPLANE, Unreal Tournament, Archicad/Autocad/Maya. Seems like the most stable HS/NVIDIA combo I’ve tried! Could be final???

What are you asking here? High Sierra will continue to have security updates throughout 2019, likely into 2020, possibly into 2021. The NVIDIA Web Drivers will "break" with each security update because the macOS build number will change with each update, despite all of them likely being labeled as macOS 10.13.6.

The NVIDIA Web Drivers for 10.13.6 are in maintenance mode only at this point. NVIDIA updates installer package with macOS updates for compatibility. No additional GPU support has been added (except for Volta, which was pulled). No Mojave drivers at this time.

NVIDIA is still issuing the same maintenance mode style driver updates for the Sierra security updates.

Hey guys,

Got a problem that I hope you guys can help with!

The last build I can get NVIDIA GPU's working with on 5,1's are:

10.13.6 (17G4015)
Web Driver: 387.10.10.10.40.113

Anything higher, the new security updates the GPU's aren't detected. They just display as 'Display' in System Information and give no output. For example:

10.13.6 (17G6030)
Web Driver: 387.10.10.10.40.124

This gives me nothing.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I've now tried uninstalling the 108 driver, and installing the 124 driver but still no joy.

The OS I'm having trouble with (as seen in the below screenshot) is 10.13.6 (17G6030).

Screen Shot 2019-04-15 at 13.21.46.png

Yet when I use a test drive with 10.13.6 (17G4015) and driver 113 it works fine (below screenshot):

Screen Shot 2019-04-15 at 13.24.38.png

Sorry to be a pain haha! I'm probably just missing something straightforward but it's bugging me!

Follow this exactly. Do not reinstall until it is fully uninstalled. Reboot without NVIDIA web drivers at all. Check to make sure all removed and no driver manager. Then install the latest.

----

From additional information tab:
https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/145832/en-us

To uninstall the NVIDIA Web Driver and the NVIDIA Driver Manager, follow the steps below:

STEP 1: Open the NVIDIA Driver Manager from the System Preferences or through the menu bar item.

STEP 2: Click on the padlock icon and enter an Administrator password.

STEP 3: Click the Open Uninstaller button.

STEP 4: Click Uninstall and then Continue Uninstallation on the Warning screen: The Warning screen lets you know that you will need to restart your system once the installation process is complete.

STEP 5: Re-enter an Administrator password and click OK. Once the NVIDIA Web Driver and NVIDIA Driver Manager have been removed from the system, click Restart.

If the Uninstaller button is not working directly from the NVIDIA Driver Manager, you can also open the Terminal app and type the following command:
open /Library/PreferencePanes/NVIDIA\ Driver\ Manager.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/NVIDIA\ Web\ Driver\ Uninstaller.app/

NOTE: If for any reason you are unable to boot your system to the Desktop and wish to restore your original macOS v10.13.6 (17G6030) driver, you can do so by clearing your Mac’s NVRAM.

This may also reset some of the options you have selected in the NVIDIA Driver Manager. If you clear your Mac’s NVRAM, it is recommended that you open the NVIDIA Driver Manager and review your settings after your system has rebooted.

STEP 1: Restart your Macintosh computer and simultaneously hold down the “Command” (apple) key, the “Option” key, the “P” key and the “R” key before the gray screen appears.

STEP 2: Keep the keys held down until you hear the startup chime for the second time. Release the keys and allow the system to boot to the desktop.

STEP 3: The original macOS v10.13.6 (17G6030) driver will be restored upon booting, although the NVIDIA Web Driver and NVIDIA Driver Manager will not be uninstalled from the system.

Right, I've now followed your steps exactly as you described and i'm still getting no joy. This time I uninstalled using the terminal command you posted, rather than through NVIDIA Driver Manager as I was doing previously.

I've tried on multiple 5,1's (09,10 & 12) and multiple GPU's (980/1060/1080TI & Titan Xp).

Booting from multiple drives, and multiple boot roms (138,140 & 141)

Also done NVRAM reset (like you described) and an SMC reset just to check.

I'm going to try a completely fresh install of 10.13.6 now and go from there on a completely fresh 5,1 and see if that gives me any joy.

Thanks for all your help so far. Any more ideas? Really frustrating.

Looks like your swapping way too much between multiple machines, multiple configurations with multiple GPUs. If you can't get ANY of them to work, it's most likely user error somewhere. Resets THREE TIMES solve issues for some people.

SIP enabled or disabled?
Gatekeeper enabled or disabled?
Anything in Security and Preferences to "ALLOW"?

MAKE SURE ALL POWER PINS ON GPU ARE PLUGGED IN. Doesn't matter what you think may work or what you think it may need, especially for troubleshooting. If GPU requires 8-pin power, make sure you're using dual mini 6-pin to standard 8-pin.

Dumb down system to barebones - boot drive (via SATA) and GPU. No other PCIe or SATA connected until you get working. Make sure no random USB devices connected.

We've got plenty of cMP's in stock hence why i'm trying on multiple machines & drives to help narrow down the problem.

I'm going to try with a completely barebones system. 5,1, GT120, stock CPU tray, SATA SSD & fresh OS direct from a restore USB and see how we go from there.

Frustrating to say the least! But I do appreciate the continued help.

Unless you messed something up with CPU tray, that doesn't impact this at all. It's a software problem only. Most likely a Gatekeeper issue on your machine(s). SIP can also play a factor. Both enabled or both disabled. Other combinations create issues.

Clear instructions/note on the installer page:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/145832/en-us

Installation Note:
The installer requires System Preferences to be launched during the installation process. Do not manually close System Preferences until after clicking Allow in the Security & Privacy Preferences, later in the process.

The installer also requires rebooting the system after the installation process. Do not launch any other applications until the process is complete and the system has been rebooted.

Thanks for your patience.

I'll try again tomorrow. I haven't looked into SIP or Gatekeeper yet so as you say it could well be one of those.

Thanks again. I'll keep you posted.

EDIT: I think I MAY have sorted it finally. Going to do some more tests but fingers crossed. I'll post back tomorrow. Thanks again.

^^^^It's my thought that the GPU may be bad. I don't think it's a driver issue. The Nvidia Web Driver does nothing to detect GPUs, it only offers software acceleration and a path to use CUDA. Both Web Drivers were showing as installed. An Nvidia GPU with no Web Driver installed will still appear as installed on a cMP, but there will be absolutely no acceleration.

Your screen shot of Build 17G4015 also appears to show a problem. The GPU in slot 1 should appear twice as below:

Newbie question. Running a mid 2010 5.1, 3.46 6 core, 48GB RAM. Mac Edition 5770. High Sierra build 6030 version installed on Flash memory.

In preparation of installing an nVidia card (mvcEurope flashed 780 Ti) I have downloaded the xxx.124 web driver with a successful install message. Then downloaded the CUDA xxx.105, again with a successful install message. I don't yet possess the card so haven't installed it. In the nVidia drive manager it shows the correct version (.124 and an up to date message), however in the CUDA manager I have a red message saying no GPU detected (obviously as I havent installed it yet), the correct CUDA version (.105), and under the web driver version a message saying no version found. Is this simply because the GPU hasn't yet been installed?

They make it sound very urgent to stop using the recalled web Driver. It's a shame because I quite liked taking the last HS security update and not having the driver break. Anybody still using it despite the security issue?

Recalled driver has issues with CUDA 10.1, stick with CUDA 10.0 if you’re using recalls driver long term.

Some people report no issues right now, FYI. I ran into issues with Adobe CC 2019 and CUDA 10.1 with recalled driver, mostly minor. On RX580 mostly now.
