I agree, they also released the accessibility changes coming to iOS 17 early. I’m hoping this means iOS 17 is going to huge, and for the new thing, I’m guessing it’ll be the Apple Car. They will zoom in from a satellite down to the roof of the parking garage outside the spaceship where Tim will be doing donuts, but he won’t have his hands on the wheel, the car will be driving itself. He’ll be shown giggling like a little kid as he installs a theme pack from the AppStore, exclusive to iOS 17.

That was actually due to the Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2023 on May 19th. They did the same last year

The subscription model denotes its intended for the pro-consumer, but as it’s missing some of the features of the Mac app, early reviews suggest there may be some issues with transferring projects to the iPad version. So really, at this moment in time, this is best as a stand-alone app.

With it being far more portable and accessible. Logic is going to blow up.

No it won't. Logic is already portable. It's called a MacBook Pro. This scaled down version won't blow up at all.

Apple can help blow up Logic by adding Ambisonic support, full Atmos support and proper Surround mastering and Stereo Mastering: People create STEMS for the fact outside of Pro Tools people Master with Consoles.

Cinematic Scores all use large studio console systems. You think Hans Zimmer doesn't have a massive studio? He's not hanging out inside-the-box with a DAW and plugins. He's got an army of actual hardware to polish off his Soundtrack scores.

Logic's Automation needs a major overhaul. None of their systems outside of a fully decked out Mac Pro can handle very large sessions w/o Overload hitting a wall.

If Apple built Professional Audio Interfaces and provided a universal set of Frameworks to leverage the FPGAs/DSPs and on-board ARM based M series processors needed in such professional Audio Interfaces it would go a long way.

Example of a Professional Audio Interface next on my list to purchase:

Avid offers an entire line of hardware just for Professionals for Audio and Film processing. Black Magic does as well.

It's time Apple steps up and takes that next step.

Apogee Digital is almost dead with only one Professional line left and everything else is Podcasting.

There is a lot of features missing from Logic Pro to move Pro Tools users in the mixing and mastering domains away from Avid.

Biggest drawback: Monthly/Yearly Subscription. 🫤
Well, this is only way since server cost to run FCPX on iPadOS is expensive. (And yes, I said server costs. Some feature require internet and those server costs add up)

Also Apple is REALLY encouraging developers to stop uploading separate version of existing app as new app to charge for upgrade pricing as it clutters up App Store. Rather they want developers to submit major update as new app, they want devs to update existing app and transition to subscription.

I see this going kinda like Adobe Lightroom on the iPad. Started out as a more lightweight version, was missing features, was difficult to manage, etc. A few years sneak by and it's altogether gradually and suddenly fully featured and capable of doing 99% of what the desktop app can do. It's one of my favorite iPad Apps.

Next time I need to edit together a slick little video for something, which isn't very often, I'll try it out for a month. I think Apple doing a subscription is smart. For a Pro, $5 a month is nothing. Less than a coffee. But they'll make a lot more money on the tens to hundreds of thousands of hobbyists globally buying it for a month once or twice per year to do some more advanced editing than what iMovie can handle. As someone who is more of a stills photographer that shoots occasional video and drone footage, this is a good fit for my casual hobbyist/prosumer approach to video. Especially for travel. I have Adobe Premiere, which I know well, included in my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription that my work pays for.

I always thought it would be cool to have it on iPad, but now it’s here and I don’t want it. Mostly because of file management on iPads. And the screen is way to small for editing

Valid points! But I rather pay One Time Fee for a photo/video editor and not have to worry about paying monthly or yearly. Apple could have followed the Aperture pricing model.👇

Apperture was a very good software for someone like me who wanted to edit their photos with an easy-to-use program. I am still very sad they slashed it. Photos is just ridiculously featureless.

"Adjustment layers" on Final Cut Pro on iPad:

  1. create a solid background
  2. drag it into the timeline
  3. in the inspector change the blend mode to overlay
  4. apply an effect such as colour adjustments

To temporarily disable the "adjustment layer": in the inspector, turn the opacity to zero.

Whyyyy is there no object tracking. Whyyyy. Ugh. Maybe itll magically appear when we get third party plug ins

That so makes me want Aperture 4 and still no one has built an actual replacement for Aperture after all these years and so many people wanting one. I still use Aperture 3 for all my photos to this day. Tons of Aperture Libraries everywhere for me.

I’m not a professional or even semi-professional content creator, but this does seem a good start, even though for certain workflows and creators it‘s disappointing.

This first version seems more for mostly mobile creators, viewing nearly entirely on mobile devices - ProRes not required, so smaller files? I do wonder if newer, more demanding features will come spring ‘24 with the arrival of the rumoured M3 iPad Pros - more efficient, better battery’s, as most professional creators I follow on YouTube always mention how much power they need often having MacBook Pros with M1 or M2 Max chips, larger than iPad battery’s and significantly more powerful.

$5/month isn't too offensive for what's on offer.
I disagree completely. What makes it totally offensive is that you never own anything and will keep paying forever.

If they (Apple) gave you the option of paying a minimum x number of monthly rates and then qualify for an unlimited license of the current version of the app, it would not be offensive. If you want/need the latest version you will have to keep the subscription active though - all that would be acceptable in my book and it would still maintain a constant cash income for Apple.

Surprise surprise. Apple's bubbly PR spokeswoman iJustine is gushing over an Apple product....
Lol Apple could re-release the Newton with its original software and that girl would still tell you its the greatest handheld device ever created.

That's why I love MKBHD. He's not afraid to be critical of products. He still gets invited to all the events but keeps it real.

God, do I miss aperture😢😢

Check out RAW Power on the Mac App Store. It's developed by the old Aperture team and is essentially a newer version of Aperture. It also has an extension for the Photos.app to edit things directly there. It's a $39.99 one-time purchase.

Given the trajectory of updates Apple needs to release in order for the iPad version of Final Cut Pro to have all of the same features of the Mac version of Final Cut Pro, the MacBook Pro should have a touchscreen.
Then you wouldn't need an iPadPro now would we? LOL

I don't think the demographic of people using iPadPro FCP are people planning to make 2hr hollywood movies with it.

It's more for people who want to make shorts and 5-10mins videos on the go on a quick turnaround time.

I’m not that impressed. AI-Background removal doesn’t work for me even with a video that was made in front of a green screen. And, surprise, the green screen keying doesn’t work well either (or I haven’t found the way to define key points like in the mac version)

She gushes over almost every product I’ve seen her review, not just Apple. I think she’s just a very positive upbeat person, unlike everyone in MR.
The problem is that she's basically just marketing products to her audience and not really telling the truth about them, especially their flaws. She spins every product to be amazing, life changing, fantastic & must-have. Which is exactly what the marketing people need her to say in return for the early access they give her to products/software.

She's just a marketing mouthpiece these days.
