Got rid of the 22 for something more compact.
THanks, NRose - I thinkI get the basic idea.
My long term goal in the firearms department is to join a club and take a course that includes safety, maintenance and whatever that can throw in there.
From what little research I have done, there are a few gun clubs in Berks that offer free memberships for beginners; or people who aren't enthusiasts but want a handgun for protection.
For now finances are a bit tight since the layoff, and my schedule is even tighter thanks to graduate courses. I'm taking Financial Reporting II and the professor is tough. I got a 45% on the last quiz and a 6/15 on my homework.
That's the best thing you can do!!
Actually going to a range and shooting a bunch of different guns is the only way you will find out what works best for you. If you go to a range and shoot a bunch of different guns, and you still like the 1911 the best, then get it because it's what your going to be most effective with.
I little secret though....... I HATED Glocks at first. That't why I bought a 1911, because it just fit me the best.
Only after shooting a lot, and really learning the mechanics of how Glocks work, did I realize that it's the best weapon system for me.
I'm curious. I have a Colt, I assume .45. It was carried by my grandfathers Uncle, who was actually not an uncle, but very close friend of my great grandfather. He carried it in WWI. (yes, first WW, not the second). I think it is a 1911, but I am not sure. It has a very interesting story to go along with it. This "great uncle" got a wee bit too close to either a mine or some sort of artillery and took shrapnel (sp?) in his leg. This shrapnel also put a decent gash in the barrel of the gun. Although the shrapnel did not kill him, an infection set in and did end up taking his life.
My grandfather left this for me when he passed. My brother has my grandfather's WWI service sidearm, which looks the same as what I have but obviously newer. (There's a story behind that one as well).
Anyway, I have always been leery of taking it somewhere to get some sort of appraisal. I just don't think I am going to get a good sense of what it is really worth. Not that I would sell it. Just curious.
If pictures would help, I can see if I can dig some up.
the Israeli Desert Eagle is my favorite
does anyone here own one of these?? (the one on the left)
Someone asked about a D E (Desert Eagle) I couldn't see the pic but here is a pic of mine. It's the only gun I own, but it's a bad@$$.

Real Desert Eagles say "Magnum Research International" and say "Made is Israel".
mojohanna, if you have a picture post it up. It will most likely be worth more to you than anyone else. I'd keep it and maybe get it back into shooting condition.
On a side note I strayed away from the G19 and went with a G17 RTF because I wanted a longer sight radius for competitions. I will post up pictures once it gets released from California gun jail.
I am not the brightest apple on the tree, but every Desert Eagle I have ever seen, says Magnum Research INC, Minneapolis, MN. And... It says it on the left facing side of the weapon. Now you are completely right about the safety. It is ambidextrous, and every weapon made by Magnum Research since 1989 have the safety that way, yes that part was a bit of photoshop. I think the pic looks so much better without the safety. But later this evening I will add a pic of both sides, with the ambidextrous safety for you.
In the mean time check out this and this before you jump all over someone.
BTW mine does not say Made in Israel, because it was Made in the good ol' USA. Some companies do still make things here you know. Also I apologize for not adding the comments earlier that there were some parts of the photo, that had been enhanced.
just picked up a G22 RTF2
just picked up a G22 RTF2
Here are some pics. Includes the damage to the barrel due to the shrapnel. It seems to be in pretty decent shape, but I would have no idea if it is in "shooting" condition.
Nice!!! I bet those two complement each other nicely.
Thanks for sharing...I love Glock pr0n...I want to pickup a G20 SF soon...
