I am just going to stick with IceWeasel, Arctic Fox, tenfourfox.. most sites still work with LWK - the ones I use like eBay and others of interest work great for me - uses Squidworth proxy before and it doesn’t work right !

Seems fine to me....
The only difference is i copied everything from my G5 (which i used to build squid) to my powerbook G4 and placed everything where it needed to be manually.

Sorry for my ignorance on this, but did anyone ever port LWK to Intel, or does it still run on PPC only? I recall trying it via Rosetta failed completely. I will probably try this on my G5 at some point though, this looks quite promising. I have not used Leopard much in years but this could be a bit of a a pull for me to reinstall it on the G5.

Also, @wicknix would you mind sharing the wallpaper you're using on the G5? Reminds me of one I used a long time ago.

Tobias is to FULLY blame for this as he could have updated the TLS SSL in LWK, so we won’t have this problem.. the good news as it stands LWK runs what I need. Why there is TLS SSL with Wikipedia I don’t know, what harm can an encyclopedia do to someone ???

What Tobias deserves for using his own time and skills to provide all of us with something valuable, FREE OF CHARGE, is appreciation. Check your attitude, he doesn't owe you or any of us anything.

@retta283 It was made for PPC Leopard only. Doesn't run on anything else. As for the proxy, give us a little time to work out the kinks on PPC, or run squid on another machine for the time being. :)

^ Note, given that I don't have access to a PPC machine, I really can't go any further than the current updated installer package. I don't know why it would work for me in Rosetta but not on real PPC hardware. Especially since copying the files manually worked for Wicknix.

If anyone has ideas/suggestions/theories/logs etc, please share them.

For kicks, i deleted my macports install because i had issues updating some other packages, so i'm going to start fresh rebuilding everything. May take a few days as that machine is a lowly single cpu 1.6ghz G5. Building 3 versions of GCC takes quite a long time. If people are still having issues we can try the new build once it's built. Also it's always a good idea to reboot after installing squid to ensure LaunchAgent kicked in and actually started squid.

Cheers

^ I'd also be interested to know if the actual package works for you, while MacPorts is gone.

I explicitly included a script that's supposed to start the LaunchAgent, though. Ideally I'd like to fix that if it doesn't work on PPC.

It worked on my PowerBook that doesn't have macports installed when I copied it over, so we are fine there I'm thinking. Since I did that before you had the installer made I had to reboot for launchagent to kick in.

I used LWK for last few years and on my Quad I had no issues watching hidef video on that machine on YouTube at resolution 1080p and some even played nicely at 1440p. Now, it doesn’t even play more than 720p. I used to use his LWK for this and all of a sudden it stops working right because google decided to end older browsers from using the internet, eg: Wikipedia - why SSL TLS for a dumb encyclopedia site !??

^ One reason many OSS developers don't take donations is because they don't want to feel obligated to maintain/support projects if they loose interest and/or time. Particularly because it's difficult to get an amount actually commensurate to the work/expertise.

I used the package from your website and BOOM—it works! It takes a few seconds before the page loads, but it works like a champ. Many thanks!!!

Oh, that’s excellent, so maybe it does work on PPC!

The page load delay is interesting, I wonder if Squid, which on Intel is quite lightweight relative to the resources available, is actually somewhat taxing on these older PPC systems. Let me know if you run into any other oddities.

Is there an easier way to view all websites on a PPC mac ? There is and its better than LWK - I commend Wicknix for his work in Arctic Fox and IceWeasel - These are just as goof as LWK. However, is there another proxy server i can use thats easier to set up other than Squidworth ?

There really isn't much to set up. Download this squid package, mount the .dmg, read the readme, run the installer, import the squid.pem to your keyring, and adjust network proxy settings. Done.

No other "free" proxy software supports transparent HTTPS proxy connections. Just squid.

Cheers

@wicknix is right—just download the package from @Wowfunhappy website and install it.

Here's the link: https://jonathanalland.com/legacy-mac-proxy.html

Alternately, one of us could drive over to your house and do it for you.
