iPhone 8+ 256gb on AT&T. Having this issue as well. The static went away for a day then came back. Did a hard reset and still notice it. Have an appt tomorrow at my local Apple store.

I have been a me to replicate the crackling more regularly. When the other caller is talking, switching speaker on and off over and over makes the popping sound. Also, pressing gently in different places on the front or rear glass towards he top of the phone makes the sound worse.

I have been working with Apple support as others have. I encourage everyone to contact them.

And now it’s appeared in my UK silver 64GB 8+. Notice it mostly when calling voicemail and as others have said, if it’s not there and you toggle speaker phone it appears. It doesn’t however go away if you toggle the speaker again. And the next time it can be gone or still there. Toggled speaker phone on an actual call rather than voicemail and it didn’t appear. Weird.

Will do! Even though the static isn’t that loud, it’s annoying. I talked to an Apple advisor via chat and got nowhere. My only other option I guess is to take my phone in and get a diagnostic. Hopefully I get some sort of answer..
They’re rushing me a new one but I doubt it helps.

Well, i'm just another victim of this issue. My Iphone 8 started doing the same today aswell, it's very annoying and frustrating because since you start hearing it, you cannot keep your mind away from "hearing it" instead of paying total attention to the person you're speaking to.

Btw, i'm from Portugal and tomorrow morning i'll call Apple support to ask for a solution...I don't care if they don't know if this is a software or an hardware problem, their job is to give answers and fix it. I already filled that report you guys shared.

Exactly. That’s why I’m going to an Apple store to see what they say. Just the fact that the noise is there, it’s annoying.

Let us know how the new one is!

I asked the support rep I’m working with via chat if I should just return the phone. He/she said no, let’s try more steps, and had me disable Voice over LTE, which made no difference. On each call now I press the screen on back, sometimes front, and it usually makes it much louder, I wonder if to a hardware issue.

I’ve only had a few calls so far but noticed it on one of them with my 8 Plus (sim-free SG 256GB). My wife was out in the middle of a corn field so I’m hoping that was it. Especially since I bought unlocked from Apple and we have no Apple Stores within a few hours. Otherwise audio sounds pretty good.

I'm having the same issue with a 64gb iPhone 8 Plus on AT&T. I'm not sure what steps I want to take just yet, as each thread I read on this says that Apple has no idea why it is happening. Why swap out a handset if the new one is just going to do the same thing? I'll probably give it a couple of weeks to see if they deal with it through a software update -- seems like there is some disagreement as to this being a software or a hardware issue. Just glad I'm not alone with this problem!

Called my wife and no issues of cracking static noise during calls. Sim Free iPhone 8 Plus Space Gray 256 GB.

Happening here as well. 64gb 8+ on Verizon. Only happening when using earpiece, intermittent.

I got a call from an AppleCare plus support rep. She said she is escalating the issue and will follow up with me in 48-72 hours. I don’t expect any miracles.
I just found this YouTube video, I can’t tell whether this is the same issue:

Interestingly there is no crackle for me when listening to other audio out of the same speaker - e.g. music and videos, or a voice memo.

So hopefully it isn't a hardware problem with the speaker and this can be fixed with a software update?

Unless there is some issue with the cellular hardware.

I went to the Genius Bar just 26 hours after getting the phone. The genius couldn't hear the noise--which is understandable, since the Apple Store was very noisy. She ran a general diagnostics and brought a special dock to do the audio diagnostics--everything was okay.

The reservation was yesterday (Saturday)...I made another reservation for next Saturday, hopefully they will have a solution by then.

Interesting. I'm hoping this is a software issue.

I am having the same problem. I returned my iPhone 8 Plus 64GB Space Grey yesterday after speaking with tech support for over 2 hours. The replacement phone I got yesterday is doing the same thing. Cracking noises during calls. If this is not resolved stat, I will be returning for a refund and going back to my iPhone 7.
