I have not experienced myself, but for what it's worth, I always do a full wipe and restore before ever using the phone right out of the box. Is it crazy? Probably. Perhaps this is why I didn't experience this.

Direct from Apple's website. Yes, that is the correct solution.

Does not work. This is a major issue affecting all iPhone 8’s. I received iPhone 8 #1 and static was present. I wiped iPhone 8 #1 and tried again. No improvement. I returned iPhone 8 #1 due to this “defect” and received iPhone 8 #2. Same attempts and no improvement. It is random and appears to be a major software issue. Everyone I know has the same issue.

Apple can hopefully provide a software update. Otherwise we are talking billions lost in a major iPhone 8 recall.

Spoke to Apple this morning. It’s not something the local team is aware of as an issue yet, and this is the only emerging thread I can find on the internet so far. They have advised restoring the phone to factory settings and setting up again via iCloud backup. I’m giving it a go now for you guys and will report back.

Won’t work. This is a widespread Apple 8 defect.

I did a Google search for static on iPhone calls and saw threads going as far back as the iPhone 6. Anyone in this thread had the issue on those phones as well?

Also do you guys have wifi calling on? My house has no issues with wifi, streaming, downloading, connecting, etc. but my iPhone 8 do have static and cut outs while on wifi calling. My internet package isn't that great, certainly not the fastest out there, but good enough not to be noticed with normal day to day stuff. Turned wifi calling off and perfect calls just like on my old 5s. Toggled wifi back on and immediate issues. Might be worth trying if any of you have wifi calling on as well.

Yes, I didn't have this issue with my iPhone 7. Tried with Wi-Fi Calling on and off--happens intermittently in both cases

This is a "me too" post. I'm experiencing the issue on my iPhone 8 Plus 256 GB.

It happens with or without WiFi calling, with 4G voice (VoLTE) on or off, with phone noise cancelling enabled or disabled under accessibility, and even with third party VoIP apps (like Acrobits Groundwire), with several different carriers.

It sounds like an amplifier microcontroller bug to me. Let's hope they can fix it in software somehow.

Talking with Apple support at the moment. Not hopeful they will know anything about this.

Update - Apple have confirmed they have had several reports and are looking into it. They are not currently sure if it's hardware or software/firmware.

Edit - The support rep requested anyone experiencing the issue should report it at https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Sorry. But here are a few rules regarding customer support:

1) The customer is always right, if he reports a problem
2) The problem is always "known" to not come across as "surprised" by any issue.
3) They work on a solution, but no timeline or action is certain.
4) The customer can help by providing details. His/Her "story" is not ignored and "really important".
5) The link is the standard product feedback link that will basically be stored in a database.

What will not happen, ever:

1) "Oh, you are the first person to report this, we are clueless"
2) "Sorry we do not believe what you say is true, learn to use our products correctly"
3) "We don't know what the problem is, so nobody works on a solution, obviously"
4) "We really don't care if you like our products, you already paid for it, so we no longer care"
5) "Your complaint will not influence or quality assurance process anyway, it's all supply chained"

Rubbish.
You will find that apple very frequently refuse to acknowledge they know of problems even when it is certain they do.

Only as long as they can ... then they knew all along.
Just recall every single exchange program in the last months.

So the new phones have been out only 3 days and yet they have acknowledged they know of a problem and are looking into it - is that apple withholding knowledge?

No, they cannot admit they don't know about it.
You have not read my post at all ...

Did you read mine?
I said I've seen them decline knowledge of an issue before where it is widely known apple are aware of it.
Anyway I'm done here.

Provided feedback to Apple using this link, let’s see if they start to take it more seriously.

I’m also having this issue with a new iPhone 8 Plus 64GB in the UK. It crackles during phone calls, and seems to be more often than not. I’ve tried hard-resetting and restoring the phone to no avail. I’ve been advised to make an appointment at the Apple Store, but it’s quite far away so I would like to think it could be fixed with a software update, but the Apple Support chat seemed to think it is likely to be hardware related!

I may just return my phones

They have no clue.

Sorry for my poor English...

I have the 256gb plus (gold) and have the same issue. For my is software related. If the problem is in the speaker, when you play music or when you watch youtube video the crackles have to appear.

I make a call just minutes ago to try and the crackles don’t appear... if it is ramdon and only in call apps it should be software related.

That’s my opinion...

It could be a hardware problem, due to interference between different components, only present at some moments.

It could be. But when you play a video in youtube via 4g the phone is using the same components as a phone call (the antenna, speaker, and other components)
