Mine does it as well out of the box. If its not fixed within 14 days i will return mine and back to 7+

Add me to the list, just noticed some crackling a bit ago talking on phone (wifi calling, not on speaker phone). I did a wipe and new phone set up this morning, so that is not the issue. Hopefully this is software related. I'm using an 8+ sim free, SG, 256gb if that matters. Factory is F2.

It is faint but very noticeable whenever the other person talks. I doubt a genius would notice it if I took it into an Apple store. Sigh...

Is this problem isolated to the iPhone 8 plus? Or the iPhone 8 As well?

I have an 8 and I noticed this when making and testing some calls. I am still testing this myself but when I change enable LTE to data only it seems better. If that’s the case would only be a temp fix because then we can’t use data while talking. I have VERIZON btw. Might be good to share your carrier

It happened to me while on a call using wifi calling, so it doesn't look like a voice over lte issue. Also on Verizon.

I'm downloading an iOS 10.3.3 ipsw file now. Not going to do this tonight, but can we put 10.3.3 on the iPhone 8/8+? If so I am curious if the problem goes away.

I’m going to cancel my replacement request. No need to spend 30$ on a replacement and go through all the time doing all that when there’s a good chance of it happening. Maybe I’ll read up on pixel 2. I know it has b72. Apple support is about useless. Had no intention but this is rather irritating.

Canceled replacement.

What are you going to do?

B72?

Worth trying anyway no?
I just tried again with wifi off / voice over LTE and it was fine. I'm not convinced though. It is intermittent.

Tried it again (called my office that uses automated message) with wifi off and heard crackling.

Toggling the speaker phone on and / or off triggers it for me. I tried calling my office and my automated greeting was fine. Toggled speaker phone on and off, and then crackling in the ear piece. Similarly when I heard crackling on a separate call I toggled speaker phone on and off and it went away. This is so weird. I'm done for the night. This is just swell.

Yes I am having same problem. Since I made first call. Took it to Apple. They confirmed it was not the carrier. The lady heard it too. Have a new one coming. Had to return to T-Mobile. So I will get it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Is anyone else experiencing a crackling static noise from the earpiece during facetime or cellular calls? Strange thing is this noise happens randomly, roughly 1 in 3 calls. This is happening on iphone 8 plus.

Yes. I noticed this and thought I might be going crazy. I tested my dads 8+ and same issue. WTF is going on at Apple lately? Quality control has gone down the toilet.

I have not experienced myself, but for what it's worth, I always do a full wipe and restore before ever using the phone right out of the box. Is it crazy? Probably. Perhaps this is why I didn't experience this.

Direct from Apple's website. Yes, that is the correct solution.

This seems to be a hardware issue in the earpiece. Not hearing the issue when using AirPods.

Good to know there is at least 3 of us now (another user in the UK release thread). More likely to be a software issue I guess

I hope it’s a software issue, but a crackling in the earpiece seems more likely to be a hardware issue, no? My I7+ was fine.

Hardware it would always happen though. You can get it to not happen for awhile and sometimes it doesn’t do it anyways.

Doesn't work. It summons the SOS screen.
In another post someone said:
  1. Press and release Volume Up
  2. Press and release Volume Down
  3. Hold Power until Apple logo appears
But I can't make it work

This is correct. The old method brings up the emergency/SOS signal. Not sure why Apple did this? But on the 8, you press the volume up button and release and then the volume down button and release and then hold the power button until it shuts off and pops back on. Try to do the volume buttons quickly.

No issues with sound quality on mine. Most of the time static or odd noises are going to be the fault of your carrier or the connection on the phones.

Nope.

Spoke to Apple this morning. It’s not something the local team is aware of as an issue yet, and this is the only emerging thread I can find on the internet so far. They have advised restoring the phone to factory settings and setting up again via iCloud backup. I’m giving it a go now for you guys and will report back.

They’re useless when it comes to issues, widespread or not. They rarely acknowledge these things.

I hope so!

This must be a software issue when it switches between speaker/regular. It sounds like something is switching inside. If the speaker were broken then it would be clicking the entire time. I think this can be fixed by software.
