I am having the same problem. I returned my iPhone 8 Plus 64GB Space Grey yesterday after speaking with tech support for over 2 hours. The replacement phone I got yesterday is doing the same thing. Cracking noises during calls. If this is not resolved stat, I will be returning for a refund and going back to my iPhone 7.

It won't be resolved any time soon I imagine. I'll be returning my phones too. I'll wait for them to fix it however and just buy them later after I buy the X and other phones

Yeah, it really sucks. Apple’s quality control has really gone down hill. Can you image if they get thousands of returns for this issue. There stock price is going to drop even more. So frustrating.

It’s happening to me too! iPhone 8 Plus 256GB Silver here in Australia. I have tried everything and it’s intermittent. It will do it one call and then the next call it won’t. I find toggling on and off speaker phone can stop it or start it. So strange! But it doesn’t do it during loudspeaker play back with calls, music or video and the speaker seems to play music, video and voice perfectly during loudspeaker playback.

Are you thinking about returning it? Or is it something you can deal with? It’s driving me nuts. I’m on calls all day for work.

I have a question. How many of you have fb on your phone? I saw a post about the iPhone 6 static noise and one user said to uninstall fb. But no one responded after him to acknowledge if that fixed the issue. Not saying I believe there is a connection or this is a solution. Just mentioning one one user posted.

I don’t use FB.

Way to reward them lol. Why care about quality when someones just going to return it for the next more expensive model lol.

I'm going to watch the X. I'll be getting the sim free so it won't be out for a little bit so I'll be watching feedback on it. If it has same problem or others I'll wait also.

I’m going to stick with the phone but hold out for either a software fix or a replacement depending on what the issue actually is. I’ve already logged it with AppleCare so it’s atleast mated to the serial number. I’m not happy though as it’s annoying and a $1500 should not be doing such a thing. I have a feeling it’s software though. Other than this I love the phone!

Hope it's a software issue and not like the iPhone 4s

I'd imagine all this having same effect as simply turning off Voice over LTE on your iPhone (turning LTE to "data only", instead of "voice and data").

My guess is that, if turning off VoLTE helps, then maybe some signal processing program/hardware is buggy and has trouble with higher sample rates--VoLTE probably has higher sample rate than GSM/CDMA's voice encoding. I'm not in the wireless communications field, just my amateur guesses...

I have the same problem.
go to Settings-General-Accessibility, turn off the "Phone Noise Cancellation" and turn on "Hearing Aid Compatibility" then the noise disappered to me.
So i guess it is software-related problem?

I thought this had something to do with the issue too. Tried turning off "Phone Noise Cancellation" and "Hearing Aid Compatibility", and made two calls. The first call was really good quality, no static noise, but during the second one I still heard the noise.

I don't know...but it works for me.
I made several calls after setting, didn't hear the noise till now.

I have tried this and unfortunately it did not work for me. This seems quite wide spread though, literally people from all over the world are having this issue on all size variants, colours and both models!

Didn’t work for me either. The issue can come or go so maybe they thought they fixed it. I know I thought I found a fix a few times and it just came back. :( hopefully it fixed it for that case tho!
