I kind of gave up on the tablet space last year when I sold my iPad for a MacBook. I've been back and forth on whether or not I'd actually want another tablet, or even a foldable iPhone/iPad hybrid. Part of me has interest in it, as I could probably sell my MacBook and just use that.

But, I think I'd much rather be interested in a iPhone/Laptop(or desktop) hybrid. Let me connect a regular iPhone to a Nexdock (or my desk monitor) and at least give me the iPad stage manager capabilities on there. An app called InfiniteX2P gets you most of the way there, though I’d rather have native support for this. This way, I can still use my iPhone normally without the extra weight and folding mechanism.

a foldable phone is the only upgrade I want at this point

durability issue HA! we went years using iphones with cracked screens because it’s ludicrous to be updating any piece of gear annually

I can't handle a scratched screen, let alone full cracks! I'm with you about upgrading yearly though. I still love my 14, and expect to upgrade before the iPhone 20.

I like the foldable, wanted to switch to the pixel 9 Pro fold but there are lot of things that I use day to day that is not user friendly in Android

1. Apple Pay is seamless when compared to Google wallet. We have tap to pay almost at all places here in Aus.
2. Don’t like the pixel watch, Samsung Galaxy ultra looks good but health features and cellular won’t work if paired with the pixel
3. No Apple Music for wear os
4. Galaxy watch won’t unlock Mac
5. No airdrop
6. iPhone mirroring to Mac (will use when ios18 and sequoia comes out)

3,4,6 are not deal breakers but the other points are. So waiting for Apple to release a fold NOT the flip.

I used both Apple and Android for quite a few years. I would switch back and forth as I got tired of one or the other. I finally decided to stick to one and it was an easy choice. iPhone just works so seamlessly and has less issues. Being open source Android is fragmented and just doesn’t have the same feel.
I doubt I will ever buy a foldable phone but, if I do, it will be Apple or nothing.

Apple know what is a passing fad, and what people actually want…

They have the best and most successful tablet on sale, why would they compete against themselves with a folding phone?!

You don’t become as rich and successful as Apple by releasing unwanted products.

Passing fad? But VR isn’t? Or the Apple Vision Pro?

I loved the Vision Pro and thought the meta 3 is cool but those are fads.

Everyone uses our phones everyday so a foldable from apple would sell like hotcakes.

I couldn’t justify keeping the Vision Pro despite how much I liked it because it was rarely used.

Also I have tried out the fold 5, pixel fold, and one plus, and honestly all are great in their own ways.

The thing is, I’m too use to iOS now and want to be on it. So I return those and await a foldable iPhone.

I think this is the central sticking point about foldables. I'm not sure those who dislike foldables really care whether there will be one or not and I'm not sure whether those who want foldables will care if those who don't want want don't buy.

But we disagree about whether they will sell like hotcakes. Yes everyone (or almost everyone) uses their phone every day, but not everyone uses their phone in the same way. I have no workflow, no need, no desire for a foldable.

For those where a foldable meets a need, yes, it would sell like hotcakes. But is there enough of you? You guys who like foldables seem to think everyone wants one, but us who do not, don't see that. We see a market like the iPhone Mini and Apple isn't making those anymore because that market segment is too small for them to justify it.

Wonder why, with all of the forward thinking innovation, Apple is so far behind (years actually) in the production of a phone like the Galaxy Z. Were I not such an Apple addict, and like the integration of my devices, I would seriously think of switching. Nothing like this from Apple until 2026!

Because until the seams are not visible and the device doesn't break so easily, it is not good enough.

Not good enough for Apple and not good enough for me either. I've seen and played with the fold-ables and do not want - not in their current forms.

Eyoungren people want larger phones there is no getting around that fact, so you cant really compare the iphone mini scenario in this regard. Both the flip and fold provide very large screens for people to consume their content.

I keep playing with the z flip and fold 6 in the stores and they are honestly beautiful devices, and very well crafted despite some on MR saying they are junk when they are not at all. The crease is there for sure but tolerable like the notch/dynamic island.

I am sure people want larger phones. Not all, but a lot. However, I am not convinced that those who want larger phones all want foldables.

The ideal size of an iPhone for me is somewhere between the size of the Pro Max and the iPad Mini. But I don't want a foldable.

I totally agree.
A foldable is a niche market and not something the average person is interested in. I can see certain scenarios like using it on the go for work for instance but, again, not a huge market.
I enjoyed the mini when I had it but my aging eyes need at least an average size phone. No need for a foldable and I believe Apple knows exactly what they’re doing.

Forget the Samsung (I wouldn’t buy another Samsung anyway)…if I wasn’t deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem I’d switch to the Moto Razr - I lowkey love that folding beauty.

One of the reasons I am keeping current with iPhone models is, if Apple goes to a foldable only, no phone purchase for me - maybe for along time until they wise up. That said, I can totally understand why Apple has not come out with one yet. From what I see on other models, the crease would drive me insane. The foldable I have seen look like a used piece of cardboard that our child has folded more than once. Yuck! Apple still has some modicum of taste and knows aesthetically that would be a total turnoff to many. If I need a bigger device, I have an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. A foldable is going to have to look AWESOME for me to ever buy one.

Oh yes indeed i had the original moto razr that had a 1.3 MP camera which was a big deal back then. Beautifully crafted device that was!

Dont worry that wont happen, the candy bars will always be in the line up as they are a perfected design, its just that they may not be the flagship device.

You try these folds they have now GF6, PF9, and they are a bit ahead of the iPhone, as far as hardware goes.
