In the meantime I have to give up using foldericons.
I'm using Shrink for hiding all labels.
Right now every folder with a new foldericon isn't touchable at all. Will not open anymore.
Deleting foldericons.plist after deinstallation doesn't help.
And thumbnails appear and disappear how they want.
The last time I open the settings of FI by touching the grey circle my iphone freezed completely.
For now I give up and wait for next update.
The interaction with all these tweaks that can hide labels - Shrink,Customgrid etc. - gets so messy that finding the right settings for a good collaboration is a pain in the back.

Sadly Tom.

Why settings for label, shadow and so on? Other tweaks will do that.

Yeah, I definitely get where you're coming from on that Tom, but I kind of do want exactly this from FolderIcons. I'm the opposite. I don't want to have to hop across the settings of 50 seperate tweaks to finally get the desired look. I really do feel that way. I'd like it to be the complete package, rather than a bunch of tweaks communicating slightly off-kilter and potentially messily with each other to attempt to get the desired result.

In other news...

Regarding the crashing/crashing-to-safe-mode when trying to use the 'import images' menu/option, well, that's going to happen right now. Yes, you're going to get that.
It's a simple mistake. The fact is, Vertex hadn't meant for that function to be live in the beta yet as it's clearly not even close to being ready. The fact it's there in the beta at the moment or that you can even see it/access it that little amount is just a total mistake he made in switching it live. Just don't use it. Simple as that. At this stage, ignore the 'import' function. It most certainly will cause those problems being described here. He's well aware of this and he's kicking himself for leaving it in before the upload. Total mistake that the public are seeing that. Not supposed to be there yet.

Regarding the sharing/spreading of the beta to all and anyone which seems to be a big thing to scamper for and help yourself by any means.
Well, I get that people just will find a way and do that, but sadly I know he's really not keen for that to be happening. That actually seems to be a a big negative issue for him in the entire development right now. Worryingly so. Especially as widespread as now seems to be happening. I guess it's the nature of people to wade in and help themselves and grab what they want for themselves, regardless. That seems to be of real concern to him.

To some extent, I understand that people want to do that. Of course I get that. it's not nice to feel on the empty-end of a 'have' and 'have not' divide... but I can only stress to those that are helping themselves to the beta, then bitching when they do get it... that this will be finished and it's getting there. Have patience. It's a beta, come onnnnn, be fair, don't be surprised by certain things being amiss right now.

Running in, taking hold of a beta for yourself, then shooting it down publicly is a little raw, I feel.

Really, grabbing the beta as it is at this stage by whatever means, then bitching and claiming you feel you need to walk away from it because a beta version is not making your folder icons tapdance and glow in alternating colours in perfect time to five other finished tweaks that you love dearly is a little bit rich at this stage. Once again. It's a beta. It's a work in progress. Don't get stressed out. :)

As I say, maybe have some patience and a little faith. I'm probably talking out of turn here and it's not my place to say, but as I understand it, he works long hours to make something of a living just to get by day to day, then he sits down with what spare time he has to put in even more hours to try to make this work in his free time. It's a little bit of a thankless task, y'know? (I don't think he'd appreciate me sharing all that info, but there you go).

The level of thanks/respect he gets on his doorstep is honestly very little, but still he carries on with it and he's a pretty happy-go-lucky seeming guy.

Really. I think I have to say at this point, I'm sorry if I've come off as pious. It's just a little hard when people are crying foul about every tiny aspect of a beta not doing the finished job to absolute perfection and integration,

For me, and I know this is selfish, so I really do apologise (I'm not being snidey, I do mean it), but from the first beta I was put on, I managed/was lucky enough to fix up my home screens perfectly. They looked amazing. It was just the beta as it was back then and a little home-tinkering with some gifs and dropping them in the right folder/renaming them for retina. The leap in aesthetics was huge. That includes (whether this is already a smart move or not - I know) working with Inifinifolders and FolderEnhancer both installed concurrently... and as a sidenote: as for tweak collision/incompatability, my filesystem is an asbolute trashpile. Just horrible. Totally irresponsible beta-testing fare, yet so far, FolderIcons seems happy enough.
Sure, there are things to be done by far. These things get logged. That's entirely why it's not released.

Sorry if I've come off a little pious and grumpy here. It's probably entirely undue and a massive overreaction. I really do mean that. I'm sorry. I'm incredibly tired right now, I haven't slept in 36hrs so my judgement is a little skewed and I've no doubt I've interpreted a few things wrong (not your problem, I know - I should shut up and deal with it - agreed) - sorry, sorry, sorry... really mean it... but just perhaps some patience and some appreciation are needed to be considered.

On the flipside, I do appreciate this is a public forum and you have the right to express yourself as you wish without me wading in and slapping everyone with all this love-thy-neighbour rhetoric.

Look...

This will get there, and it will be great. :)

well put. always makes me laugh, how people (me too sometimes) think we're entitled to free apps, free updates, things ready when WE'RE ready...without having to do the actual work.

this is a great tweak, and will endeavor to be patient for the official release.

I decided to give the beta version a try yesterday. It has been working great for me. I only have two folders.

I've got custom folder icons via a Winterboard theme I made. The mini icon previews that normally display can be easily turned off using Springtomize. I can't make each folder have a different icon, but at least its not the ugly default square. See attached springboard screenshot of my phone. This works for iPad too.

nicely done. foldericons would, of course, let you do different icons per folder...

Hey, y'all. Just wanted to say that my reply was totally meant as a thumbs up for Vertex, and in no way meant as criticism. Only wanted to report the issues on my device, since it's a beta and I thought it might help to have as much info on issues as possible!

I just installed the beta and made a few icons. It seems to be working fine. I do all my file transfers via SSH so I don't know about the tweaks image import function. See the screenshot.

Best thing since sliced bread :)

I had some problems though, best to avoid em while still in beta:
- frequent lockup after browsing image from gallery
- images uploaded to FolderIcons folders won't show without @2x suffix (except maybe if you're using a 3gs)
- images don't auto-fit (like in 2.0.7) eg, 48x48 needs to be resized to say, 128x128

On a side note, springtomize can take care of the first 3 hide options of FolderIcons (label, thumb, badge) except it can't hide the shadow of docked folders, which FI does perfectly.

Still, this tweaks completes the 6.1.2 jailbreak. More power to Vertex!

Two days ago I had a total blackout understanding the FI settings.
Meanwhile everything ok.
I apologize deeply for making the horses crazy.
And I have donated.

Sorry for the stupid question but can someone tell me what kind of images I need to use. Can i just download MAC icons? what resolution is best?

Thanks for the info

1) Icons must be png (correct me if i'm wrong, but you wont get transparent background icons with jpg files) You can use candybar (OSX only, it's simple to use, and it has the best-looking resize output i've experienced.) to manage your icons before you upload them. Alternatively, you can use paint.net on windows or pinta on linux. no, no, no, i do not recommend using photoshop, that thing is overkill, but you can use that if you like.
2) on a 3gs, ipad2, and the mini, 48x48 icons are probably fine. If your device has retina, I suggest to go for 128x128.
3) again, if retina, add @2x to the icon name eg, music_icon.@2x.png
4) if ipad2, mini add ~ipad eg music_icon.~ipad.png.
5) for ipad3 or ipad4, well, check out for yourself. i suggest copying the same file with different suffixes and a combination and report what works out
eg music_icon.@2x.png
music_icon.~ipad.png
music_icon.@2x~ipad.png
music_icon.~ipad@2x.png

trial and error doesn't hurt :) good luck!

FolderIcons beta is working great for me. Here's my home screen:
