To be honest, the real next best thing is the inminent iPhone flip.
Although late, Apple obviously is not going to be away from the party.
Why? Because it is Apple?
Even if iPhone flip comes because it is of the smaller form it might not gain as much traction to the generality that wants a wider foldable.
Imminent say you? Like Apple making an EV car too? Wasn't that said for years?
I don't see Apple making a flip phone at all. They might make a folding phone. But also, they might make a folding ipad as well
By the time, if ever Apple have a folding device everyone else will be on multi folds or roll-outs LOL
Agree 💯.... at this point, we don't know the direction Apple is going. According to the rumors, they plan to release some folding iPad/Mac.
Part of me wish they go ahead and make a book-style foldable... just to push the foldable market forward, but I'm not sure they do it now. Especially if it runs iPadOS on the inner screen. That would mean it would clash with the iPad Mini, so... I'm skeptical.
Even when a foldable lands it won’t offer more than the best Android foldables. They have been doing this for years. Software should be strong but hardware will be lacking
I'm not holding my breath for this Apple device, I do welcome it.
then...all the Apple fans that said "why do we need folding devices, it is just a gimmick" will all of a sudden love folding devices....

I’ve given up defending foldables in the news forum when topics come up on foldable iPhone or iPad. People will buy it if it does come next year. In fact I think it will sell like crazy
@Tulani given its a new year lol… perhaps you should update the name on this thread, just saying.
If Apple releases a folding clamshell to me in particular, it wouldn't catch my attention much. I understand its functionality and grace, but I find the foldable book style, an iPhone that would become an iPad mini more functional and practical if I would be interested (just as I am interested in the Fold).
They do, and how many flips/folds do they sell compared to the regular model? I'd wager not many in comparison.
If there was a market out there, Apple would move into it. The demand simply isn't there IMO.
