I hate Samsung because of their crappy software. Whether the P2/P3 players I had. TouchWiz is crap. The "Smart TV" OS is absolute crap. Let's face it, only 3 companies know how to make software these days.

I don't really like how Samsung copied the look and feel of the iPhone. Not to say Apple didn't copy from here and there during the course of its evolution.

For the original Galaxy S though, it looks as if Samsung purposely copied the look and feel to potentially confuse new consumers that the Galaxy S was similar to the iPhone.

Sure, the majority of the UI may be completely different BUT why use a product advertisement image that looks almost exactly like the iPhone layout? Why use product packaging that looks so similar, non-techies might not be able to tell the difference? Keep in mind this was only the Galaxy S, not any HTC/Motorola phones of that generation.

Obviously Apple didn't copy the look of the LG Prada or Samsung MP3 players to confuse customers wanting to buy those.

This is pure value judgement. How is it obvious that Samsung copied Apple but Apple didn't copy Samsung?

Why doesn't samsung deserve that market? They use different hardware for the most part, and a totally different operating system, they make a quality product.

What did samsung copy exactly?

The Smartphone?
Touch Screens?
Home Button?
multi touch?
Apps?
built in media?
rounded square?

Because apple copied all of that to. Nothing in Android or iOS is really original. Its all been done before.

You haven't seen this, have you?

So your saying it is OK for Apple to copy from someone but its not OK for Samsung to copy from Apple

Well it would make perfect sense in here :p but to add, Samsung did not copy the feel of the iPhone with the Galaxy S. It is MUCH lighter than the iPhone and thinner so it doesnt feel the same....and it is also bigger. Similar look, sure but all smart phones have icons and a candy bar shape.

Samsung also makes curved and pebble shaped phones. I guess Apple will be copying them if they ever have a new style and that will be ok, ...right!

I am curious....

Many here hate Samsung and some say their phone displays arent that good and bash them every chance they get, so im curious .....most everyone has a flatscreen TV, how many here have a Samsung TV? Does your love of Apple and having Samsung as competition along with the hate i see keep you from buying their other products?

I have three big screens. Two are 46" LCD Samsungs and the other is a older Vizio 37" that is 1080i in one of the bedrooms.

So if you dont have a Samsung, what do you have?

I don't care who makes what product, if its good I'll buy it.

I hate Samsung phones. I've owned several and all were garbage so I tend to avoid them.

I do generally like their TV's though and will possibly be purchasing one soon since my current TV seems to be on its way out :/

I'm not talking about Samsung copying, they clearly copy some things. I'm talking about so many Apple Fanboys telling me that Apple invented everything on the iPhone will is BS, Apple didn't innovate one feature on the iPhone, its all been done before. They were just the first to put it into a phone that people actually wanted to buy. That doesn't mean they invented it all.

I didn't imply that either company was copying either. Software patents are usually obnoxious at best and I'm sure we can safely say its too difficult to determine where features originated from.

This is also for hardware features, a rectangle with a screen etc there are only so many ways to design one. CPU, RAM and others are shared by most models already.

What I meant was, for the original galaxy S (note I'm not mentioning any other brand or model) it seems as if their ad placement was done specifically to mislead consumers into 'maybe' thinking that they were buying an iPhone or at least riding on the coattails of Apples's ad campaign.

I'm not talking about real hardware/software features or even any other phone model but only how Samsung chose to advertise and market their original galaxy S.

Sorry but diversionary tactic of talking about "fanboys" doesn't change the FACT of Samsung slavishly copying Apple down to the packaging and connectors.

I had a cellphone once, and it was terrible.
I had a BluRay disc player, it was "decent", and one of the first ones to have an ethernet connection to the internet and able to stream Netflix and Pandora. I had a love-hate relationship with it, as it allowed me to eliminate my cable bill.
But, there is always a but, the remote control was very confusing and the user interface was a piece of crap. Every time I wanted to do something to operate it, it was kind of frustrating, as it was not responsive and sluggish.
And just one day after the warranty was void it stopped working, became the largest paper weight I ever bought.
During this time I did consider buying Samsung TVs.
However, after the bad experience I made up my mind and came back to Sony, the PS3 and my HDTV are still kings in my Home Theater.

Samsung components are good once they are produced under Apple's standards.

Like most of the Korean products, they catch up pretty fast, but they are still copying what other leaders in the industry are offering. And they still don't fully get it right.

I have a Samsung 42" HDTV. I've had it for 4 years, it's been flawless. My parents have one too, only it's 50"- it's been rock solid too.

I also have a Samsung fridge. :D

Get F'd over enough by any company and you can hate them. What is so strange about that.

I don't hate Samsung, but I won't buy one of their TV's again, mine and a few others I knew had them die in the first two years.

That would turn me off too. That's why while I still buy Apple computers and idevices, I buy third party displays:p.

The Apple Tax is a myth.

I care about Samsung's market share because they don't deserve their high market share. Apple deserved it. Samsung just copied Apple. Apple worked hard and Samsung just placed it into their product.

It's funny that you refute one myth then mindlessly parrot another.

I HATE Samesung.

They slavishly copy everything from Apple.
I went round to my sister's yesterday and had to cringe with embarrassment for her as she has a new Samesung tv in her lounge.
Its only 2 weeks old, and she still has the receipt and i'm trying to convince her to take it back and get a tv from a different manufacturer.

Samesung had the gaul to copy Apple, so now I'm doing all I can to get them bankrupt.

I HATE SAMESUNG! All their employess should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
And so should anyone here with any kind of Samesung product of any description!

And yes, i refuse to buy a new ipad until i can be sure it doesn't contain the crappy god-awful Samesung screen.

Leave her alone. Samsung makes the best consumer screens. Sure, they suffer from some QA issues like every company does, but you can't churn out millions of devices and have them all come out perfect. Plus, the brand is becoming less important as companies simply re-brand panels. The difference I guess is the support you're also buying with your purchase which Samsung does well too.

Do you have a story with having owned 'hundreds' of Samsung devices that just all failed one day and Samsung refused to swap them or something? Because your statement sounds like you know absolutely nothing about what you're talking about. The iPad has the Samsung screen because they were the only company that was able to actually produce the screen in high yields as it is far ahead of anything else on the market right now, which says a tonne about their competence as a company.

I'm surprised your sister still invites you over.

oh yeah, the amazing ipad screen that APPLE researched and developed!! Its amazing because Apple developed it, and then passed it on to Samesung to produce. Its the equivalent to being taken out on a free lunch.
And guess what? oh yeah thats right, they do what samesung do best and produce absolute garbage.
Trawl these forums to see all the posts complaining about the new ipad screens with yellow tints, dead pixels etc.
Hell, there are many people reporting on how they are still not happy with their ipad screens and they are on like their 12th ipad! it speaks for itself!

Hahahahaha, or memory either. People really need to stop this who copied who debate. It's what companies do. Someone comes up with an idea, they get a head start leading the market, the patent expires, generics pop up and it's on the company who created the market in the first place to maintain themselves by innovating and changing as the generics catch up. If you need proof, go to the drug store and check out Tylenol vs Equate Acetaminophen. "Even the packaging looks the same!"

doesn't change the fact the apple created smartphones and tablets first!!
They didn't exist except in sci-fi movies before Steve had the revolutionary vision to create them for us all!!
And then, along comes samesung and copies everything apple makes, and produces absolute garbage in the process.

Based on what you said, I am 100% certain you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and just how important Samsung is to the tech world. People make stuff up on the internet all the time. Do you really have any proof someone went to "12 different Apple Stores" all over the country and were assisted by "Pablo"? Or that maybe they should have stopped at iPad number 2 because a sane person wouldn't have found a damn thing wrong with it? The iPad has 3,145,728 pixels on its screen. Do you really think its okay that people take theirs back and demand 11 more because they're only receiving 3,145,727 or 3,145,726 pixels? Come on.

OMG. You must have been born the day the iPad came out because you have no knowledge of anything before 2007-9. Please, either read a book or stop posting on threads you have no knowledge on trying to start a hate war on a company you know nothing about.

Apple is going to make a TV? If they do that thing will be so expensive. When they first made their 17" monitor. They had an initial price tag of $4000 on it....and it was just a monitor.

BTW, Apple uses some of Samsung parts in their phones and iPads instead of innovating their own.

Why do you care how much market share Samsung has? You have stock in Apple?

What a silly thing to say. You are confused with "innovate" and "Invent".

FWIW I dislike Samsung. Their marketing team thinks the only way they can sell their products is to openly insult Apple users in their ad's. Before anyone links the mac vs pc ads don't bother, its not the same.

We have only one Samsung product in our house and that my wifes Samsung Netbook. I'm looking forward to the day I can throw that trash in the bin and get an MacBook Air.

But yeah, Samsung makes nice TVs.

Smartphones existed before the iPhone, it just took them to a level they hadn't been before. Also, you might want to chill it a little bit considering Jonathan Ive is clearly influenced by Dieter Rams' work that he did for Braun. Google it if you want, or start here: http://gizmodo.com/343641/1960s-braun-products-hold-the-secrets-to-apples-future
