For those who ordered the ATI 4850....

What is an "authorized reseller"? I ask because here there is an outlet (photographic equipment) that is supposedly and authorized repair facility and also does order iMac's and Mac Books etc. Further, they want $50 over the price on the Apple.ca site "because that is the delivery charge to them". Sounds bogus to me but would like others experience or opinion.
 
I have mine right now. I just set it up, and thought I would post that I have recieved mine. Its so AWESOME. The screen is great. There is a little bit of glare, but I don't even see it unless I'm looking for it. I don't see any dead pixels, or stuck pixels. Truly a remarkable machine right now. And it is indeed the ATI Radeon 4850 HD graphics card. I'm excited. :)

i bought from a reseller and the price was the same as buying from apple... perhaps some ppl would be allowed to make their own prices but y would u want to buy from someone else if they were gonna charge u more then apple?... i wouldnt pay more then its worth.

I agree with babsvil. I'd rather get it directly on Apple.ca or go to your local Apple Store if there's one near you. Why spending more on the already expensive computer if you can get it for less?
 
Arrived on the 21st

My Imac is here !!!! Too bad i have not been able to set it up yet(busy,busy)
I'm going to stay up late tonight and will tinker with it.
Will give some feedback later.
Hope everyone else has got theirs or is getting to them soon.

and on day two... i've now had a total of 3 freezes :mad:

damn this is frustrating, i was really hoping my machine was gonna be okay
 
Just thought I would let you know that on my first day towards the end of the night I was playing 3 songs on my itunes with the visualizer full screen on my iMac 3.06 Ghz , 4850 ATI Video and on the 3rd or 4th song, it froze. I was disappointed to say the least.

I been reading on another thread and some peoplethink it is the WiFi that is causing the problem. Well I was using WiFi so I turned it off and now using Ethernet cable and went into my itunes and played songs for 90 minutes with the visualizer full screen for over 90 minutes and IT DID NOT FREEZE. No problems so far since i disconnected the Wifi.

So is it possible that this could be the reason why the lock-ups? I will continue to monitor the situation and if it changes I will let you know.

Actually it came 14 days earlier than originally planned. I was not suppose to get it until May 5th. But I got it on April 21st. Awesome machine. Mine froze one time in itunes with visualizer playing full screen but disabled WiFi and it has not locked up since.

Got my iMac this evening. Just to add my two cents:

Initial setup of the iMac went fine, using wifi to do the registration stuff. I downloaded and watched a couple of quicktime trailers in HD. Worked just fine and the iMac's screen is beautiful. Downloaded and used "Teleport" which allows me to use my iMac's mouse and keyboard to control the Power Mac G4 that's sitting right next to it, over the network (via wifi). It worked fine.

But then I installed and ran Halo 1 (v2.0.3). It froze during the opening cinematic (conversation between Cortana and Captain Keyes). I restarted and opened Halo again. It froze again during the first playable area where you're learning the movement controls. I then turned wifi off and ran Halo for the third time.

With wifi off I was able to get through the whole first mission with no freezes. That kind of tells me personally that it's the wifi, but something else needs to run to be the catalyst for freezing. Regular web usage didn't do that for me, nor did watching some videos. But the clear difference between being able to run Halo and not being able to run Halo was the wifi.

Edit: It just froze again while watching a youtube video. On wifi.

Take that how you will: another data point.

I received mine yesterday (order from a Apple authorized reseller in Ontario, Canada) and I got 4 freezes 2 almost right away and two after disabling wi-fi:mad: not sure what I will do yet.

I had bootcamp set up with vista (no problems running vista :rolleyes: I know it is probably hardware not software just ironic that OSX is having problems and vista is not.

the computer is at home currently erasing the HD so I can reinstall OSX (because I can and because you never know) then I will start doing things again and see what happens but 4 freezes on the first day ya this is going to be sent back!

Ok Quick Update:

Ordered my iMac/3.06/4850/4GB/1TB on April 2nd, Shipped April 22, dilivers April 24th in Edmonton, AB.

Lets hope there is a software update soon to get rid of all these problems everyone is having.

i have had mine since the 21st... when i get home from work at 5:30 im pretty much on it till i go to bed and during the day my boyfriend uses it... i havent shut it off once yet. it stays on 24 hours a day... hasnt froze once!!!

This is Gaspoort reporting back. My second iMac was delivered on Monday the 20th. I think you may have me under Tymbo as you are quoting my words there also.
 
I've got one that freezes

Having followed these discussions while mine was on the way, I immediately did a full-screen iTunes visualizer test while streaming internet radio over wifi test. Sure enough it locked up after about 20 minutes. I shut it down and repeated the test with the same results. I disabled wifi and no freezing so far. That sounds fairly conclusive. Now do I spend the time loading everything on it hoping for a software fix for this problem?
