Well it seems like the ordering system has gone down for maintenance again (here in the UK), so you never know, there might be more definite answer when it comes back up
I ordered an iMac 2.93 with the ati card on the 7th march and was told that del date was 1st May.
I've now just checked the applestore and it's saying 7-10 days for delivery with my spec, so I rather excitedly checked my order to see the new delivery date and it's been moved BACK to 5th May! No email, no phone call.
So who is being lied to? Prospective customers looking on the apple store or me?
WTF is going on? This is my first mac and I'm not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about apple's integrity.
I would have thought that when you pay premium prices for a product that you would get premium service
When you total up my order it comes to £1698, that's a lot of PC with a lot less hassle.
I'm seriously considering canceling my order unless I get some satisfactory answers from apple.

Get a PC then.

store back up and...............no change for me, still 5th may delivery after 7th March order.
Apple store still quoting 7-10 days for the ati card. Should I cancel and reorder to get it quicker?
I doubt that will help. All you might do is call Apple and ask if you cancel will you get it faster but I think it is on a first come first served basis. Good luck with that. But my guess you will have to wait like the rest of us.
try and ignore the fact that you are an apple fanboy and this is an apple issue...... do you seriously think that this situation is acceptable?
Nothing to do about being an apple fanboy. From what i'm seeing all you trying to say is that you're an unhappy costumer. And never ending complains.
If it makes you so unhappy then get a PC.
you're missing my point. Why are people being quoted 7-10 days if they order now but I'm being told it's another 4 weeks.
Like I said, do you think this is acceptable?
I should expect premium service for a premium price, shouldn't I?
Just saying go and get a pc then shows a lack of intelligence and inability to construct a valid argument
Dan, Apple are a business. They want you to buy their stuff. There has been a delay since day 1 on the 4850's. Nobody knows if it is hardware or software related - either way they are trying to resolve it as quickly as possible because they want our money.
Now you say it is a premium product and you demand premium service? The product isn't ready yet so what are you expecting - a neck massage from Steve while you wait?
So some people have had updated shipping by email. Some people have had credit card checks made. The store now reflects 7-10 days (depending on which country you check) as opposed to 3-4 weeks earlier in the week. This indicates that whatever the delay was, it has now been resolved and they are confidant of shipping in the next few days (or about 5 weeks after the original announcement which is exactly what Apple said originally).
BTW, my order status is still showing the original dates despite getting an email from Apple bringing shipping fwd by over a week.
I appreciate I maybe coming across as a bit of an arsehole.
I know I don't have to have an apple and I know that if I don't like it I should buy a PC for half the price, but I do want an apple and yes I am willing to pay through the nose for it, but I think the service I have so far received from apple is sub standard. No I don't expect a neck massage from Steve, he's not my type, but what I do expect is, at the very least to be kept up to date with what is happening to my order. You yourself admitted that no-one knows why there has been a delay and I have had no information as to why my delivery has been put back a week, and this situation only came to light after I checked my order status, surely this warranted a courtesy notification email at the very least.
I'm very keen to be part of the apple community and I am chomping at the bit to get my hands on my iMac but I am not going to bend over and take a shafting from from Steve without having something to say about it. Nobody should........
I don't blame you for wanting to know what your additional delay is. Have you called and asked? Sorry, I haven't been following this thread. But, don't worry, I'm sure the Apple community will accept you even if you don't have your machine yet.
Oh, and it's champing at the bit, not chomping.
Thanks, I not meaning to put anyones back up by criticizing Apple.
I was going to put champing as well but it didn't sound right to me, we talk different down here in Dorset you know....

the strange thing is that all the IMac's evan the standard spec one's are now "ships in 7 business days" from ships in 24 hours, with no diff if you configure them except for the ati gpu one's
