I ordered 3rd March (in the UK). My bank called me today (3rd April) to say the fraud department wanted to check I had really ordered something from Apple. They tend to do that when I buy expensive things (I am not so sure why exactly but that is a different story...).

So in other words, Apple has now taken teh money for my iMac. Estimated shipping is still 14th April and delivery is still 23rd April (they seem to ship from the other end of the world by boat or something).

Has anyone else had their money taken? Is this a sign that things are moving forward or does Apple merely want to work with my cash?

No.

I used a credit card and they don't take the money until it ships. I ordered on March 3 also (US)

I have talked today with the Customer Service (Germany) and they told me it is shipping next Wednesday.

I think the man at the phone didn't know too much about it,
but I do hope it is shipped the next Wednesday.

I received an e-mail afterwards,

"We are sorry but there is a problem with the iMacs production
You will receive an e-mail with the details of your order"

So much for my hopes...

looks like they were right saying 6 weeks when we all first bought ours!!! i cant wait to finally have it!!!!

I wonder whether they automatically charge your card if your order has been hanging around their system for exactly one month. Maybe a limitation of their ordering software? <shrug>

update: I did the math. Apple charged me the March level of sales tax (as on my original order), rather than the April level of sales tax (1% higher in California). yay for saving me almost $25!

Anyone else believe DELTAnake?

Apple Store

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for you recent order with the Apple Online Store.

Due to overwhelming demand, the shipment of your order has been delayed. We anticipate that your order will now be shipped from our warehouse on 14 April. When your order ships, we will send you a shipment notification email with the anticipated delivery date and tracking information.

We apologise for any inconvenience the delay has caused.

Thank you for choosing Apple!

Kind Regards,
The Apple Store

I find it had to believe that Apple would make such spelling errors as: "thank you for you recent order..." also, I don't expect DELTAsnake to rewrite the email.

My 24" has been ordered March 5th. No news as of yet. Money has been taken 3 mins after I ordered (Visa called me). I hope it's worth the wait.
If it is alot longer, I hope we will get a free version of Snowleopard.

Hang in there everybody! (As if we have a choice!)

My order information was updated. Ship date stills on April 14th but delivery has been modified and now it shows April 22th (before, it was April 17th...).

Still waiting...

PD: I ordered the iMac on March 3rd and I'm from Spain (if it serves for any of you).

I was charged too

They charged my card today too. Wonder if it means anything. Ship date still shows the same though :(

Has anyone called Apple to see why they charged your card prior to shipping? I do not believe it is their policy to do so.

So who has the earliest proposed ship date on this forum waiting on an iMac with a 4850? It seems that the person with the closest ship date can confirm whether or not they are ready when s/he gets it. I know it is not me. My ship date is still April 27th.

The earliest should ship on the 14th, that's the initial estimate. I ordered mine on the 4th march so am expecting it to ship on the 15th and this is unchanged so far! 11 more days! It's getting unbearable!

I show April 14 but until I get a confirming email I will not say for sure that is the actual shipping date. ;)

I for one would be totally p*#$#d if :apple: charged my card now and did not ship for at least 2 weeks...

The earliest any ordinary consumer could have is for it to ship on 14th and arrive on the 15th.

april 15 is a wednesday. I'm betting that it's apple's secret plan to publicly release 10.5.7 on tuesday, the day before, unless an OS-altering bug is discovered between now and that day.

they tend to launch things on tuesdays.

I ordered on march 3, launch day and nobody has claimed a day earlier than the 15th for arrival. unless maybe someone from shanghai is living right next to the factory, then that person might get it on the 14th :D

I was rather upbeat when the bank called me. Seems it doesn't mean a computer being shipped though. I really wonder whether the iMac is worth the long wait.

curious, if the bank/cc calls, but you're not there/home to confirm you made the order, will apple ship anyways?

I mean, I can understand if they don't, but seems kinda messed up at the same time, too.

I haven't received the call yet, nor has my card been charged. (receiving april 14/arrive 15)

They will all ship on the 14th......or soon thereafter:apple:

I just got mine delayed for about another month!!! You should log in to recheck your order status again. I booked mine on the 6th Mar, original shipping date was 20th April and delivery on the 23rd April. Now it has been changed to "Ships: 13/05/2009, Delivers: 18/05/2009" and I don't get an email on that at all!

Another wierd thing, when I went online to check for new orders, it says ships in "7-10 business days" and I proceed to on the cart with credit card info and guess what, and the delivery date is now 24th April!!??? What logic is this?? LIFO??

Or Scam????
A scam by Apple luring new customers to buy the ATI GPU iMacs giving earlier delivery date (and delaying it later) and at the same time delaying previous orders! Is that how Apple managed 31% sales increment!?!??!:eek:

VISA called me minutes after my order too. That was 2 weeks ago. However, when I checked my online statement today, I have not been billed yet. It was a pre-authorization.

Well When I ordered mine, my Visa was pre-authorized for the full amount but not charged. Now I checked my Visa account and the pre-authorized charged has now dropped off my Visa and my full credit limit is back on my card. So they will have to re-authorize my Visa when they are ready to ship. Pre-authorizations usually only last for 7-10 days in most cases. So I am thinking once I see another pre-authorization then I will be closer to getting the iMac shipped. :D

Yeah I went on to check new orders here in the UK (not sure where u are) and it says 7-10 business days when you pick the 4850 card!! And with peoples cards being charged and no emails being sent out something odd is going on.

It may be normal though, I know its dropped from 3-5 weeks very suddenly, but we are now 10 days from the original estimate (6 weeks from 3rd March) so maybe the system has been updated to predict the original ship date for new orders now.

I suppose we are now just waiting for the confirmations from apple, and my order is still due to ship on the original date given of the 15th. Fingers crossed!

new order here in US are still saying 3-5 weeks...

ordered March 7th, still have the same ship date of April 20th and delivery 24th. No emails have ever been sent to me.

If you don't belive me then look at this other thread. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/680069/

Other people got the exact same email, same bad spelling and all. My guess is someone in India (or wherever Apples call center is) wrote it.

who is being lied to?

I ordered an iMac 2.93 with the ati card on the 7th march and was told that del date was 1st May.
I've now just checked the applestore and it's saying 7-10 days for delivery with my spec, so I rather excitedly checked my order to see the new delivery date and it's been moved BACK to 5th May! No email, no phone call.

So who is being lied to? Prospective customers looking on the apple store or me?

WTF is going on? This is my first mac and I'm not getting a warm fuzzy feeling about apple's integrity.

I would have thought that when you pay premium prices for a product that you would get premium service

When you total up my order it comes to £1698, that's a lot of PC with a lot less hassle.

I'm seriously considering canceling my order unless I get some satisfactory answers from apple.
