I dont think the service has been that bad. Okay, so we havn't had a reason for the delays with the 4850's but the original shipping date that was posted online still hasn't passed (6 weeks from the original release date).... after all, if you couldnt wait that long then why go ahead and order it? If that date passes and STILL no one has their iMac's then I can see a point in getting worked up about it....

I will be pissed off however, if another delay gets put on to my order without an explanation... but that hasn't happened yet so we'll see...

I agree with the earlier post though, a pre-order button would have been much better on Apple's part. They can't really say something is released which is obviously not ready yet...

just to clarify my situation.

I was completely aware of the delay if I wanted the 4850 and was happy with that. I can't wait to get my iMac and join the apple community.
What I'm not happy about is the 3 date changes I've had for delivery, initially 24th April then 1st May, now it's 5th May and I've had to find this out for myself, no notification or explanation from apple what so ever. Now I read that if you order now it's a 7-10 day delivery for the 4850!
Surely you can understand my annoyance?

Oh, I totally understand. Man, 7-10 days...now I want to order one, too. I'm getting excited for it to ship and I haven't even ordered one. Not yet, anyway.

I agree with some previous posts, it should have been a pre-order.

7-10 days is for new orders, mine is still saying 5th may, 20 business days!

Mine is also being moved to delivery on the 4th May... :(

I have also the strange deliver effect:
before it was 3 days delivering time, now they are like 7 days.
The ATI "problem" is also affecting the couriers now...

Geez, I hope they throw something in for the inconvenience..

I don't believe this........

I've just phoned apple customer services to inquire why my shipping time has increased, from 5 days to 9 days, to the 5th of May, which is 20 working days from now and to ask why the applestore is showing 7-10 day delivery.
I was told, by someone who could hardly speak english, that the unavailability ati "harddrive" is the reason for the delay, I said I was aware of the reason and just wanted to know why the shipping had been extended, she reiterated that it was because of the ati "harddrive". I gave up after 5 minutes of me trying to explain to her my issue and receiving the same autonomous response.
She said she would speak to her supervisor about the 7-10 day new order problem, she then said that an email would be sent out this afternoon informing me of the delay which I thanked her for most profusely.

I am not impressed at all with apples customer service and communication.

I know I seem like I'm "going on" but I'm about to spend £1700 quid of my hard earned money and, to be fair, I expected better.

apple tried to take the £ on Saturday night. Obviously, the transaction was flagged and stopped by my card provider.

Just sorted it all out, however now my order status has changed from 'Shipped 14th / Arrive 17th' to 'Shipped 14th / Arrive 20th'

Looks like everyone is getting their iMac "when they're ready" - no special treatment for us early purchasers. Which I guess is a good thing

Just ordered my iMac with the ATI Graphics card. Here is my config:

iMac, 24-inch, 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1.0TB Serial ATA Drive
iWork '09 preinstalled
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) and User's Guide
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
COUNTRY KIT,IMAC 24
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB

Of course... ship estimated in "3-5 weeks." I paid extra for a 2 day shipping, first time I've ever done that. Probably not worth the 30$, but hey! 3 days sooner for my iMac. I'll buy that. I'm hoping they'll drop the shipping date some... but eh. I don't expect to get mine sooner than you guys do.

I would call apple and see if they can give you the 2 day shipping for free and get your money back, on my last iMac that I bought it was the same thing, I had to wait 4 weeks, I called to complain and they gave me the quick shipping for free.

Dan,

This is not the typical response I get and it is obvious that the support in the US comes from people in the US. I would call again and ask for a supervisor. Anyone who does not know a hard drive from a graphic chip should not be answering your questions. Complain and see if you can get free updated shipping for all your trouble.

In response to Dan: Im in the UK and I called them this morning too. The guy was very friendly and although did not give any explanations (genuinely did not know why the wait was so long) he did offer to make it a priority shipment and said he'd do what he can to make sure we get it as soon as possible. The date hasn't changed at all but at least the service was friendly... think you just had bad luck mate...

Although not the person I spoke to this morning (I forget his name) The person i originally dealt with was also very friendly and helpful. You can ring direct to make sure you get someone with a bit of sense and understands english next time..

Hope it helps.. good luck!

I'd agree with this assessment. I guess the US call center is either locally staffed, or I have incredible luck.

At least something is going on with outside US info. Here we still see 3-5weeks for new orders, and my order, nor any other US orders have been so much as nudged in any direction that I know.

Thank you so much, you should get a job with apple!

I will fire off an email in due course.

I'll post and let you know how I got on.

Once again thank you for your help.

Ok guys, heres my input/story! I am from London - UK and I have also ordered a 3.06 iMac with the AT card.

I ordered the iMac AND a 2.26 mac mini + wireless printer on 01 April 09

My estimated shipping was 05 May for all items, so I cancelled the Mini & printer and placed a seperate order. The mini / printer now ships on 03 April but the imac remains the same as expected..

anyway

I check my bank account and apple have 'reserved' £2188.45 AND £657.70 of my balance! basically they havent taken in to account the mini cancellation, so my available balance looks like Iam buying one imac and TWO mac minis!

also why the hell are they reserving the balance of the imac when I am still over a month away to recieving it!!

I will ring apple asap to resolve...

ridiculous.. I am spending £2200 GBP and recieving this crap service!!!!

They reserved ('approved') the funds for my order today.*Usually* companies only do this if they're about to ship... but, being apple, I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I called apple today, spoke to a really nice guy. He didnt know anything about the delay and was v. apologetic. I asked him about the 4850 being a mobility version - again, he didnt know but he said he'd get back to me.
I don’t have an issue with Apple. When I ordered the product it said it’d arrive by the 17th. I knew that when I ordered, no point complaining now :)

Not really.

It's pretty obvious that you were signing up for a long wait when you ordered and that Apple was giving you a rough shipping estimate up front.

Blaming them now for not being precise with the shipping date is ridiculous.

It is extremely rude and unprofessional to post someone in customer services personal contact information on a public forum so that they will get inundated with potentially hundreds of direct calls demanding free shipping upgrades, etc.

I highly doubt that you got permission to post these details to a public internet forum and you really ought to do the right thing and take the information down.

I agree totally with this and it is obvious that there is something holding up the shipment of 4850 configured iMacs. I mentioned before that the only way we will have any degree of confidence on when we will expect shipment is when we receive the email giving shipping details to include the shipper and tracking number. Until then all we can do is speculate. It is unfortunate that some people are getting so upset or bad information. It is obvious that a quick notification of the web site or email to waiting customers would alleviate a lot of concern, but I guess Apple is not really aware of the consternation among its potential customers.....:(

It is interesting that the different web sites for the different countries are not in sync. I also find it curious that outside the US there seems to be mixed comments about Apple charging their credit card or bank accounts before shipment.

Hopefully this will all be resolved in 8 days when the first iMac's with the 4850 are scheduled to be shipped. If that does not happen, then we have the right to complain vociferously.....;)

Until then I will wait patiently until I see a flood of messages indicating that shipment has been confirmed.....

Email I received from George:

"Hi

Thank you for your phone call today.
Please find my contact details below. Please archive for your own future reference.

Likewise, please pass on these details to any of your friends, family or work colleagues who might be interested in buying Apple's fantastic range of products. All referrals welcome!

Thanks a million
George "

I did think twice about posting it on an internet forum but it wasn't out of spite. I'm genuinely trying to help Dan out with his issue (as opposed to everyone getting on their high horses and bitching at eachother like kids) and I was originally going to Private Message him but found no such option on this forum. Nor has Dan got his email on public display...

Dan, if you let me know that you have saved this information I have no problem taking down the contact details as they were directed at you.

I completely understand. Having been in one of those kinds of service jobs in the distant past, I can assure you that when he invited you to share his private contact info with "Friends and Family" he did not intend for you to post it to the Internet.

@Headliner

Just an FYI, the Private Message feature is available if you click on a username, then click Send a Private Message... Thats where it is for me at least. :)

And on Topic, I have not had a date change at all since I ordered. Still says "Ships May 4, Delivers May 6."

I give up..........

How some of you think that this situation is acceptable is beyond me.

Take Apple out of the equation for a second, if you can, and imagine that it is a normal company that can sometimes be wrong and who are not entitled to get away with it when they make mistakes and should be held accountable when they slip up. Would you be so blindly defensive of this obviously shoddy customer care?

But don't answer that, I already know the answer.............

Private Message is always the best way to handle something like this. I see you have removed it which is good.

Thanks krogren but still dont see the option. Got View Public Profile, View other posts by <user> and Add <user> to buddy list.

but anyway.. it doesn't mater now.

at least your order is only 2 days of transit.. apparently mines gonna take 10 days from shipping to delivery lol. Fuel prices have gone up.. maybe they've started using Flintstone cars  :D

Could the '7-10 business days' be due to the imminent release of OSX 10.5.7?
Apple has been releasing new weekly builds (latest being 9J39) every weekend except the one just gone. I thought our 4850's were being held up by no current OSX support.

Of course this doesn't explain why people's individual shipping dates are moving BACK.

I ordered my imac on 9th March in the UK. Original shipping date was 21st April with delivery on the 28th. Delivery now estimated for 31st...

just got this ....

"Good Afternoon,

Thank you for contacting the Apple Store today,

I have been informed the that ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB in your iMac is the 'Mobility' version of the card."

For me, that answers the question! Obviously, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's the integrated version but I doubt it .. :)
