I upgrade to move to 12.9" & bigger storage (1TB).
I take my 2018 11" to work everyday. I use 12.9 as "Macbook Air" portable machine with Apple keyboard+trackpad case.

I cracked the screen on my 2018 12.9”. Rather than paying $650 repairing it, I sold it, took advantage of the education pricing and got airpods for less than $650.

I got a hell of lot more for my money by buying a 2018 12.9 512gb cellular, the equivalent 2020 one would have been a few hundred more. Couldn’t justify it as I feel they are both almost the same for what my mundane tasks require. I didn’t need the “ better “ camera, lidar, 14% better performance nor the extra 2 meg of ram. Hell I would have probably been just as well served if I got the outgoing Air model but I needed a 12.9 screen.

Does the ram upgrade claim fall apart if you purchased the 1TB 2018 version? (Which has the same amount of ram as 2020 model).
Hehehe, I was going to make the same point. Upgrading my 1Tb 11” 4G/LTE 2018 to 2020 would get me 1 GPU and 1 LIDAR extra?!? That will be one expensive upgrade.

Wasn’t planning to upgrade, as the updates coming from the 2018 are minor. But, I was able to get a mint 2020 with Magic Keyboard at a good price and then sold my 2018 with Smart Keyboard for only $65 less. At that point it was basically a straight swap and a no brainer considering how much nicer the Magic Keyboard is than the Smart keyboard.

If I had not found such a good deal, I would not have upgraded. The 2018 was still a great tablet and would have met my needs for several more years for sure.
