Hey @primarycolors, this looks interesting. However, this doesn’t resonate with me as an Apple project. The main slogan [We think therefore we R] is ridiculously lazy -sorry Project R marketing team- and the goal of being astonishingly affordable doesn’t sound very Apple.

This could either be an internal dummy project for students, internship’s, or rookies at Apple or other tech/marketing company, or maybe it is a whole new project of an unknown company. Sort of another Nothing Phone.

This looks pretty serious to me. I think they're going to release an iPhone R. R for repairable. It will be a nice device category, probably cheaper than the main lineup? But user repairable?
I'm super excited tbh...
This could be a new part of the lineup. iPhone SE at the bottom, iPhone R, then price hiked 15 and 15 Pro. Makes a lot of sense.

Grabbed coffee coming home from Cupertino today and saw this folder left behind by someone. I’m nosy and peeked through — seems to be a branding presentation for an upcoming phone. There is a big emphasis on "going green."

It looks pretty Apple-like and the September date certainly lines up. I’m curious to hear your thoughts? Could they be preparing a “green” 15R?

I realize this is pretty risky to leak potential internal documents but compared to the other leaks on here I figure it might be vague enough to be okay 😅
Just curious: are you a nosy little thief, or what?

Spoke to my wife, she's a senior marketing manager who has been in the industry for years. To her this all looks completely legitimate. This couldn't have been made by a faker, unless said faker was a marketing expert themselves. The typography discussion, the branding, the "We think therefore we R", that's all very Apple in style.

This doesn't really tell us what it is though: it could be just the iPhone 15, or it could be a new iPhone "R", an overall new branding of products called "R" that will be rolled out to all devices. But the most obvious point is, "R" would have multiple meanings – recycle, reuse, repair, responsible, just like the original "i" in iMac stood for internet, inspire, innovation, etc.

The only thing that seems questionable is that it's September, and this is pretty early stage marketing for a new product. Brand guidelines are early stage – you would expect print media by now. Perhaps this coming reveal at the September event will only be a reveal, but no launch, like the Reality Pro.

Wouldn't be the first time Apple used a Descartes reference... not sure why they wrote Einstein? Maybe I'm missing something, not well versed on him.

Also, I think Apple would have written it as "We think, therefore we R"

I bought an "I think, therefore iMac" postcard from their G3 iMac campaign a while back to hang next to my bookshelf.

I don't think that typeface is San Francisco. Similar, but not it. For example, the lowercase A has a curved tail unlike the straight stem used by SF.

Otherwise, the branding choices are not cohesive to Apple, and Apple seems like one of the least likely brands to break their brand guidelines for one product campaign.

Apple has a lot of pull in the marketing and design space, tons of brands wish they could be like Apple. Likely this is just an Apple-inspired design direction used for a project that has nothing to do with Apple.

It was already bad enough that the person left the documents in a public place
I don't think that is your true opinion. Rather, it wasn't bad at all, just unfortunate human error, and no responsibility should be demanded. Forgive and forget. Only the OP is to blame for any consequences.

I deleted what I just posted, simply because I have no interest in getting involved in flame wars or blame wars here, and nobody gives a rat’s ass about my opinion, anyway.

That said, I still stand by my conviction that the OP has potentially made the life of the person leaving the documents behind much harder. In the U.S., this kind of thing can easily result in immediate dismissal.

Yes, it’s the person’s responsibility for not being more careful; but the OP who found the documents could have done the right thing by not exposing the error publicly on the Internet, and instead just trashed the documents, or made sure that they are shredded. (Probably not a good idea to give them to the coffee shop staff in the hopes that they will find their rightful owner, especially in the U.S.)

Either way, the person who lost the documents is in hot water.

I'm assuming that Apple would have unleashed the lawyers by now, had this come from them, so no.

I think this is more likely to be a marketing student had homework to create a made-up marketing campaign

Show me a single Apple ad in the last decade where they abbreviated a word using a single letter like "R" in place of "are." Go ahead - I'll wait.

You won't find anything because that's very non-Apple like.

The box around the R also isn't fully closed (compare to the iPhone #S branding). The only way a professional senior marketing manager thinks this is Apple is if they know almost nothing about Apple. So I hope your wife is just unfamiliar with Apple or that's honestly pretty embarrassing for her.
